A friend recommended this place as he once stayed here. The hotel is new and I'm very glad that it's clean. The family room is spacious but you can't expect a lot from it. Remember, that this hotel only offers the most basic needs of travelers. Rooms have wi-fi connection, too. For a price of Php 1,750, it's the best deal we got for a room that can accommodate four people.

The only problem that I encountered in this hotel are the two lady receptionists who checked us in. We are a group of 10 who went inside the hotel, but not all of us are staying in the hotel as some of them have relatives around town. One of the receptionists probably got overwhelmed by the number of people coming in thinking that all of us are squeezing into 2 rooms that we have reserved. She then asked us in a not-so-polite way if all of us will be sleeping in the hotel. As we answered that not all of us will be staying in the hotel, they both rolled their eyeballs and seemed to look into each other. It is quite rude for the receptionists to do such thing. It would be ok if the guests they are dealing with, are not keen enough to notice their body language. I suggest that the hotel should conduct seminars for the frontliners in order to train them how to handle guests properly and professionally.

I recently stayed at the north zen hotel in Davao city Philippines. The hotel is rather new and is about 30 min. from the airport. The hotel sits on a rather quiet street with homes and small businesses. It's about 10 min. from the new breeze shopping mall and about 15 min. from the SM city Mall. The staff there greeted me very warmly they were aware of my reservation they spoke terrific English and were very friendly and accommodating. in the same complex are a couple of other shops downstairs including the restaurant right next store was very clean very reasonably priced has a very friendly staff. The food is Filipino and the breakfast is a very good deal. I stayed in the Zen suite which is their top room available, it's on the ground floor has a clean bed and the 32 inch television.
Clean, air-conditioned, and all new fixtures, in fact it's still smell of freshly painted.

Here are the positives -

New new new. New air-conditioning, new television, all new fixtures in the bathroom.
Excellent staff, Jeffrey at the front desk, both of the security guards, the cleaning staff, and I can't forget the two young ladies at the front desk in the morning they were both so friendly and also so intelligent, very helpful.
clean and very new. Also including the restaurant next-door very clean and also a very good value.
Excellent television, with a lot of excellent television stations, the very best of my month-long travels throughout Asia.
free Wi-Fi, strong and very thankful for that.

Here are the negatives –

Horrible water pressure. The lowest water pressure I experienced on my month long travels.
Poor lighting. Both in the bathroom, and also in the living area.
Not enough electrical plugs were available. 1 plug in the living room, and zero electricity plugs in the bathroom.
No safety box in the room.
Incorrect bedding in the living room. The blanket did not cover the entire bed. Only one sheet covering the mattress, therefore the building was incorrect.
Air conditioner, although brand-new, was so noisy I thought there was a pickup truck inside the room

Overall review –

I paid $47 for the Zen suite a special price discounted from $82
If the ownership or the management was to change all the negative aspects which I have mentioned above. I would then say that this is indeed a very good value. With the changes in place I would say that the Zen hotel could be a five star legitimate boutique hotel. This would make it very unique in the city of Davao. If the changes were not made, then I would say that the Zen Hotel is a three star hotel at best, and I would not say that it was a very good value at that.

The place is in city proper making it accessible to most destinations.WIFI connection is excellent. We requested extra pillows and daily maintenance of the room and they accommodated it FREE OF CHARGE. The simplicity and cleanliness of the place made it quite relaxing. They have no pool, free breakfast, elevators, or fitness center but the basic needs of a regular traveler will surely be met. There's a spa on the ground floor which costs only P250/hr. And to top it all, one of the staff contacted us regarding the mobile phone we left. We sent money to them via LBC and they sent it back to Manila immediately. If you want to spend most of your money to the places you want to visit in Davao without compromising the place you're staying in, then North Zen is for you!

The "superior" room we were shown was a poorly lit, mildew-infested dungeon on the ground level - damatically over-priced for the quality. The AC was too loud, and it kept us up all night. The blankets were far too small for a couple to share. The staff were unhelpful and inconsiderate. The advertised yoga studio was unavailable throughout our stay. The breakfast was disgusting. Avoid!

We stayed here for 3 nights. Booking process was really easy. Staff actively replies to all my inquiries. It is also a tricycle away from Sta. Ana Wharf where ferries going to Samal Island are located :)

in the center of town. Booked this as an emergency alternative since we were disappointed with the resort we were booked in. The place is clean, the staff is friendly and it is definitely value for money. We booked for 2 nights and were satisfied by the service and accommodations we got.

My friends and I had a really horrible experience with D'Leonor Inland Resort and after 1 night of stay we were on a lookout for another. We saw North Zen in google and we decided to try out. The lobby may not be air conditioned but the place definitely is a win!!! Their rooms were clean, beds are comfy, restrooms are very clean. The staff are nice and very accommodating. It's a very pleasurable and safe place to stay. :)

I recommend this place since its clean and new. Its perfect for us since we roam around the city the whole day and just needs a place to sleep in. Plus there's a free breakfast in the morning. Hot and cold shower is available but i would suggest for them to change the shower head since some of the parts are not working. No biggie, for the cheap price and clean rooms i would definitely go back to North Zen again.
