Dear Reviewer- Many, many thanks for your praises about our staff. I will ask them to read your comments first hand. It is very rare that a person such as your good self takes the time to say something positive-- usually people are so eager to share negative stuff. Our staff will be elated to hear someone actually appreciating their efforts to make our guests satisfied returnees! Our success hinges on the fact that 80% yes, a full 80% of our staying guests are actually like you-- have stayed and repeatedly come back because they are happy staying with us. A great big thank you! Regards and Cheers!

Rooms and bathrooms are compact but very clean and comfortable. Staff are very efficient, polite and friendly but being a bit more knowledgeable about travel arrangements would be helpful. Food at the in-house cafe was tasty & reasonably priced. WiFi was available in the lobby & cafe & although it was complimentary was dished out in 10 minute segments. There was never any hassle getting another 10 minutes from desk staff but this is a nuisance factor - WiFi should be available freely. There is a nearby Mall & 7-11 if you need supplies. The only issue we had with this place was trying to get a taxi back from other areas of Manila such as Intramuros, taxi drivers seemed very reluctant to take us there, we had several knock backs before finding a taxi that would - this happened to us on a few occasions. Overall we were happy with our stay at Saint Illians Inn.

Thank you for your very objective comments. The wifi is given freely. Occassionally the PLDT Internet provider fluctuates and drops out. Thus the wifi needs to be re started or re booted up. That entails clearing all users and therefore passwords so you need a new one. That's all that's happening there. Wifi is given freely as you suggested. Taxi drivers are real hacks! Many travelers complain about them and I have to totally agree with you and others on that one. Please come back again! Thank you and happy travels! Cheers!

The hotel had really nice exteriors and located in a nice quiet street near major roads. We were given a corner room which is very convenient and allows me to see the buildings in makati when I peep outside the window. This is not an extravagant hotel but a small budget hotel that provides basic traveler needs: comfy bed, hot shower, and easily accessible. I tried their "best seller" for breakfast, the tapa, good portions and they were correct to say it was good. My stay was nothing spectacular but was enjoyable. My sisters were happy that we booked the hotel. Another thing worth noting is that the owners are really hands on. If you have any comments or suggestions they are very accommodating. I think for that I will be coming back to this hotel.

Thank you so very, very much! You are positively right about everything you said. We strive to give guests exactly what you mentioned. So very glad you see who we are, what our product is, and appreciate it for what you paid. And yes, owners are very hands-on-- paying close attention to guests who might otherwise not receive what they paid for. Its a contract after all, when you sign the Reg Card, that we care your you comfort and safety of your persona and belongings while you are under our roof, in exchange for a fair price! Our meals are ALL home cooked. The Tapa (beef jerkly Philippine Style) with eggs for breakfast is a favorite and the tapa is not merely purchased off the supermarket shelves. Suppliers deliver fresh Batangas beef, we slice it, marinade and tenderize it with Philippine lemon and let it sit till soft and tasty.. Even our bread which you may have had is homemade too. Nothing off a shelf. Even our corned beef is prepared in house. Come back and try that next time! Cheers!! and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours in advance, ma'am.

I checked in at this hotel on May 18, 2014 at 8:30 A.M. Since we were very tired and didn't sleep for 24 hours, we decided to check in early. Two days prior to our arrival, we called the hotel and they said it's ok for us to check in at 10 A.M. But it was very disappointing that they charged us additional 50% of our room rate for checking in 1.5 hours early. Amidst the disappointment we chose to check in due to our severe exhaustion from traveling. I got the number of the general manager from the front desk clerk and texted her that we are not satisfied about the 50% added fee for checking in 1.5 hours early. the general manager called me up after 5 minutes raising her voice and questioning why I chose to check in early and feel dissatisfied after all. She said "you should have waited, it was your choice so we cannot do anything about that". I was very shocked with the kind of service from the front desk, up to the general manager. I have been to a lot of hotels before and I have never experienced such kind of customer service. I paid the added fee, not because I am satisfied but because I didn't have a choice. That was all I wanted the general manager to know. I didn't even demand anything to compensate my dissatisfaction. But instead of apologizing, the general manager was yelling over the phone and she was complaining that I was not satisfied with their service. Since I haven't slept for 24 hours, I just kept quiet the whole time while the manager was whining on the phone. I have been a manager in a customer service industry and it was really unimaginable to see a manager behave in such a way.

This is one our favorite property every time we had family members coming from abroad and would like to spend a night or two in Makati.

The location is good, considering the CBD is just around the corner. The room is clean and neat. Water heater and a/c is working well. The bed is so comfortable to sleep on. They also have TV with a wide range of channels and DVD player in the room.

What I like about the property this time, is their new set of staffs. I had unpleasant experiences with their previous staffs, but their new ones are so accommodating. Kudos to Ms Reina who has been so warm and friendly helping us with all our requests and reservation.

Will continue to recommend and use this property to friends and families.

This property is one of our preferred ones to stay at, whenever we have people or family coming from Indonesia. Some of the considerations are because of its location, sleeping quality, room comfortability and their affordable rate.

Last November, we booked a room again here and experienced a not-so-pleasing stay. Firstly, it was for 2 nights, and then to lessen our hassle of transferring to another hotel, we requested to extend our stay till the next 8-9 nights. When we inquired, the receptionist lady advised us that she will check their rooms' availability first and will keep us updated about it (by calling to our room directly).

I was thinking that checking their rooms' availability won't really take more than just half an hour or even an hour, but one night has passed and we didn't get any update yet. The next morning, we approached the receptionist directly to ask if there is any possibility for us to extend our stay. The lady advised us that they are already FULLY BOOKED for any room type on that week til a week after because of a big group booking, so we can't extend our stay. I was quite confused, because I can see some of their rooms are actually still unoccupied.

Out of my curiosity (since I have a big doubts to the answer of the receptionist), I checked online about their rooms' availability and found out that they still have many rooms on the days we wanted to book for.

Good thing that I remembered to take note on their Reservation Manager's number (Ms. Nancy Zulueta), which was stated at the receptionist's desk. It says there something like, "if the receptionist says they don't have room anymore, you may check it by calling (the Reservation Mgr number) and if she can find a room, then you will have one night free."

Well, I'm not into the one night free, but I'm more concern about the room's availability, so I called Ms. Nancy and explained about what happened. She advised that I was correct and they indeed still have rooms available on those dates. She seriously demands me not to check out from the room first and that I may be able to extend my stay til whichever dates I want. She was very serious about what she says and sound a bit angry to whoever had advised us the incorrect information for whatever reason it may be. She further advised, that she will call the receptionist directly and fix the thing for us.

After few minutes, we went down and we managed to speak with the receptionist. So funny! They then told us that they have available room and we can stay at the same room. I don't quite understand why they advised us a totally different thing previously, as if we are not paying for our stay there. It's quite questionable, coz it's like the receptionists don't want to welcome guests who are booking about 10 nights? More so, on our extended nights, I still can see that some of their rooms are even unoccupied!

Aftewards, what I noticed is that their looks and actions are a bit unpleasing towardd us ever since we have found out that they have lied to us. It's actually a bit strange, to have that "double-check-room-availability" notification to be placed at the lobby desk (a little bit hidden). Is this pre-caution coming from the manager to the possible-cheating-receptionist? Idk.

Anyways, afterall, we still have a good sleep quality throughout our stay. I only wished that from our room to the property's main door, we won't need to pass by their receptionist, coz they are not friendly and some even look a bit rude (except the male receptionist).

I hope the management team can see this as an honest complaint from a returning guests. Wishing that they can do something about this matter. Thanks again to Ms. Nancy Zulueta!

We stayed only for over hours in this inn last night. But I vow never to return ..ever!! There were three of us who got a reservation in this hotel a few days earlier. The receptionist said, the lady named " Apple " who took our reservation entered a wrong date but said we did'nt have to worry as there were other rooms available for us. It turned out that indeed there was, but it was on the 4th floor.

Checking-in took us about 10 minutes. We were asked to sign some forms and each of us had to affix our signatures to one of these forms. Then the instruction: DO NOT STAIN THE SHEETS OR YOU WILL PAY!! I could not believe my ears! Honestly, I have stayed in many other hotels and inns before but that was the first time I ever heard such a ridiculous room condition. The inn has no lift so we had to drag our bags to our room which was so frustrating for us as we were all dead-tired from an action-packed 4-day tour of Singapore, and at 8pm we had yet to take dinner. And worse, the room A/C was'not working very well. The room was so hot we left the A/C on when we left to take our dinner outside hoping that when we return, we will enter into and sleep in a cooler place. But that never happened.

Anyway, we said will be check-out at 3am so 5 hours of a little more sacrifice will not mean a lot..Good that in the morning, two bellhops helped us with our luggage and called a cab for us. And by the way, the inn is not accessible to taxi service in the wee hours of the morning as the gate of the street leading to the inn is closed. So if you can afford to pay the Php.700 airport transfer fee that the inn offers to its guests then you go take it; but if you're on a tight budget; or think you can get a taxi at a price much lower than that as we did, then, you can walk a few meters north-east from the inn where you can take a taxi to the airport for Php.200 or less.

And before I forget, you can't expect the inn to have your free plated breakfast packed ahead of time if you're leaving before 6am. And don't be fooled by the picture shown on big tarpaulin at the lobby telling you of a Php. 130 worth of free plated breakfast. Actually the inn has a small restaurant located beside the lobby and it's called " The White Plate " . And true enough, the inn's so-called breakfast is nothing but a white plate with one egg cooked sunny-side up, a small butter, 3 pcs of pan-de-sal and a measly drop of sliced pineapples on top. No coffee, juice or even drinking water and worse.

They have a promo rate of 995.00 if you're going to stay for only 12 hours. I work in Makati area and I have a flight to catch early morning the next day. I just need a place to sleep and saw that it was highly recommended by many. Tried my luck if there are still available rooms since that promo is on a first come first serve basis. As I step into their lobby it smells fresh and clean. The moment I saw my room, it gave me comfort and homey vibe already. It's not that big, just good enough for two. Complete with toiletries. They also gave me popcorn as a welcome snack. All rooms have DVD players and you can ask for a dvd at the front desk. Wifi is available too. What impressed me the most is when they gave the guidelines and house rules. Right after discussing it, they handed me a calling card and says if I'm not satisfied with their service, I can email their president directly. For me that's a guarantee that they will serve all their clients very well. First time I ever experienced superb service.

We booked for 1 night before an early morning flight from Manila. We arrived here after dark and the taxi driver struggled to find the place (I would suggest getting a printed map before you arrive to help direct the taxi driver). We arrived to a very welcoming receptionist. She spoke very good English and checked us in quickly. We were on the 4th floor and although there was no lift they did offer a porter to help with luggage if we needed it.

The building is quite unique. It was a lovely courtyard and also had balconies at the front too (but not attached to the rooms as such – they were common areas).
We were offered a portion of popcorn and also a choice of movies if we wanted – it was a nice touch!
The room itself was perfect – we had a nice comfortable bed with good pillows (so often pillow are bad which I hate!). Bed sheets were nice and clean. It’s a small room but has everything you need; a small flat screen TV, fridge, air-con and also a table and chairs to sit at. The bathroom was good too – again it was small but was fine. The shower was good – hot water and good power, a fair selection of bathroom amenities including toothbrushes and the towels were nice and clean. It was cosy and we had a great night’s sleep here – it wasn’t noisy at all.

There is a good looking coffee shop on the ground floor – we didn’t have time to use it which was a shame!

The receptionist booked us a taxi for the next morning. The taxi took around 20 minutes (early on a Sunday morning) and cost approx 120Pesos on the meter. The taxi driver tried to charge us 350 Pesos without the meter which is too expensive – just insist on using the meter (this is of course nothing to do with the hotel).

There is 24 hour reception which is handy and also a security guard at all times. I felt very safe here.

I think this is great value for money and I’d happily stay here again. The only thing I would do differently would be to have a map for the taxi driver to get here. Maybe the hotel could even provide instructions in Filipino and a map on their website which you could download and bring with you.

Thank you for your praise! Coming from a Senior Contributor ( like myself -- I too have 65 reviews to my credit ), that means it is fair, objective and can be counted upon to present a fair assessment of the experience at our inn. Everything you said is true. These days many taxi cab drivers do not know any specific locations until, they've Actually been there themselves. To,date there are over 400 thousand taxis plying our metropolis with turn over rates of new hires triple that number -- so new drivers really don't know left from right. Major landmarks is all they know and our major landmarks are Waltermart mall, 3 min walk away,,and cross reference that with Makati Cinema Square, literally a few steps from our door. Also, we DO have a printable map on our website... If you go to Saintilliansinn dot com and click, the tab marked LOCATION you'll see the map which can in fact be enlarged and printed out. Nevertheless cabbies are an item we indeed cannot control and has nothing to do with the hotel, so therefore many thanks for pointing that out too! Have a prosperous year ahead! Cheers!

I'm a little late getting to this review...We booked a room at Saint Illians a bit last minute (maybe a week or two before departure), after there was a mix up at another hotel. Pretty much everything else was booked...so I was a little nervous about what I would find when I got to St. Illians. But I was very pleasantly surprised! The building is very nice and has a lot of character. The staff was very pleasant and helpful whenever I asked one of my bazillion questions. The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. Our room was waaay at the very tippy top of the building, and the winding staircase to the top is a bit narrow...it would be really challenging with large luggage I would think. People who have difficulty getting around may find the amount of stairs a bit challenging. We ate breakfast at the cafe in the main floor each morning, and it was very tasty. The only negative is that the hotel is a bit hard to find. And the neighborhood seems a bit seedy at night...but they have a security guard so the hotel always felt very safe. They made our short stay very pleasant...I would return!

Sorry for the late reply to your nice comments about us. And also, thank you for replying to my private email asking you to share why you found our neighborhood to be a "bit seedy." It was good information to know why you felt this. The whole Manila Metropolis is funny that way. One street may look pleasant and clean depending on the occupants of that street, then the next street over is a stark contrast again depending on who lives there. And yes, our neighborhood does get seedy as you venture deeper into the center, moving towards the railroad tracks. And conversely, as you move outwards even by just one street over, that street is a main avenue with first class condos and business establishments, restaurants, malls, and so on. Our street, Santillan , is pleasant enough and recently, the local government installed three times as many lamp posts which really brightens up the way leading up and down Santillan. The back entrance of The Oriental Gardens Condo faces our front door now and thus, Santillan is kept clear of vagrants and the like, pretty much all of the time now. But anyone venturing towards the railroad tracks is asking for trouble. The neighborhood towards that area easily degrades quite quickly. It seems you're the adventurous type and curious too about how the,"other" side of the tracks lives like! And by the look of your profile pics, quite attractive too. You can expect attention from the beer crowd in those parts as they're NOT accustomed to seeing the likes of such prettiness around their street! Anyway, glad you enjoyed your stay, and do come back... Just refrain from exploring the tracks! Cheers!
