What can we say? What an amazing experience it was to spend time with Magali, the animals and the rest of the staff at Amazon Shelter. They were so amazing with us, helping us with our kids, who had a brilliant time playing with and helping to feed the animals and also showing us how they work. If you want...

I stayed for a week thanks to hearing about this animal shelter through a friend. I could happily have stayed longer and did in fact visit again for a day after completing a 3 day jungle trip. Spending time here was a totally different experience and I felt so involved. Magali is the genuine article, her care of the animals...

We volunteered here with our children and had such a wonderful experience. Magali, who started and runs the shelter is an inspiring woman. Her heart is with the animals, while at the same time she is so caring and friendly to the volunteers. Other reviews do a good job of describing a typical day and the fact that it is...

We were just looking for a lodge in Puerto Maldonado and came across Amazon Shelter. It turned out to be the most rewarding and exciting trip to the jungle (and I have done many). The cost is much lower than going to tourist lodges and all the money goes for providing for animals and 55 animals need a LOT of...

I volunteered for a week at the Amazon Shelter and had an amazing time. Magali, the founder, was very hospitable, and her care and concern for the animals was inspiring. She worked from morning to night caring for the animals in her shelter and was always upbeat and smiling. The animals were well taken care of, well fed, and seemed...

This was our first stop during our vacation to Peru, and my boyfriend and I learned so much! The owner Magali arranged for us to be picked up from the Puerto Maldonado airport. We stayed for three days in one of the cabins, and I was generally in charge of preparing food for the parrots while my boyfriend prepped for...

We stayed with our 2 kids for 2 nights and it was a rewarding experience for us all. Magali is the owner who has given herself completely to caring for abused and trafficked animals that should have been left in the wild. The opportunity for our kids to help care for the animals and hear directly from a Peruvian what...

Our family stayed at the Amazon Shelter for 5 days in October. Magali did an excellent job of organizing activities into a combination of work and recreational activities. The expectation is that you help alleviate the incredible work load that surrounds caring for 42 animals on a daily basis--all in various states of planned release. The work begins shortly after...

Amazon Shelter is both a place to stay and a place to volunteer. It is nestled in the jungle of the Madre de Dios region of Peru (deemed the biodiversity capital for the country). They have bungalow style living areas with super comfy hammocks and beds. They have running water and showers and the best part is you are surrounded...
