This establishment needs urgent maintenance and a decent cook (let’s leave a chef for now). My room’s aircon was noisy, the soap holder was broken off and there was no hot water for a shower. Dinner was a poor attempt for a rack of lamb that honestly tasted like boiled meat and gravy, eggs benedict was even worse. Unless you are using this hotel for location perhaps consider other options.

The only decent hotel in the city of Lae. While booking was made, when we came to to check-in around 4pm, they will made us wait for few minutes as room was not ready. The hotel has a mini zoo having few birds and a tree kangaroo. Has wifi services and the hotel bar has Happy Hours. Food is okay.

The reservations team were terrible. They did not communicate with the front desk to confirm bookings and payments. They asked for proof of payment and then their own invoice! The restaurant service was also terrible, the wait time was over 1 hour for dinner.
I used to like the place but its quality standard has deteriorated.

The attendant at the bar on Sunday 17 March 2024 was one of the worst customer service representatives I have ever come across. She was extremely rude right from the start when I and my friends went over there for a game of footy and few beers. She was very harsh and rude in her approach and has zero customer service skills. Hope management sees this a get her out of any customer service roles before they lose more customers like the 7 of us.

On Arrival, the staff were very friendly greeting with smiling faces. The rooms are well kept clean and comfortable. The environment is very natural with lots of birds to see.
Room service was prompt and on the spot. The laundry was out and in with you knowing. I recommend the Lae International Hotel for your next trip to Rainy Lae.
Enjoyed my stay.

The Lae International Hotel is definitely now a home away from home experience. We stay at the Lae Inter regularly on business and its comfortable rooms are set amongst landscaped gardens, giving you the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of life and sounds in the tropics in a safe and secure sanctuary.
We found the staff to be very customer focused and their friendliness and caring attitude compliment the excellent range of dining options on offer. Vanda Restaurant boasts a delicious Seafood Buffet dinner every Friday evening and there is an extensive variety of dishes to choose from. The new al a carte menu has a great range of classic sweets and desserts and the mango crepe suzette is my personal favourite.
The newly refurbished Kokomo Restaurant features a delicious Sunday Brunch, inside or poolside and should not be missed. We spent many hours relaxing around the pool and enjoyed the ambience at another great food haven: Luluai’s Italian Pizza. Delicious home made gourmet Pizzas prepared right before your eyes.
The hotel has had a change in senior management and the new energy in apparent everywhere in the hotel. There has undergone extensive renovation in many areas.
Albeit a minor detail we were delighted to see that the water in the swimming pool was clean and bright throughout out our 2 month stay.
Would we recommend the Lae Inter as a place to stay........ I think we just have.

On the plus side - it is probably the best place to stay in Lae. The rooms are clean, cool and comfortable. The place feels secure. The sports bar has decent range of international sport on TV.
On the down side - it is breathtakingly bad value, the wifi is intermittent and extremely slow, the service is a bit of a lottery, which seems pretty standard for PNG. The main thing is there is just nothing to do. The swimming pool is out of order and looks like it will be for the near future while they build a new one. None of the machines work in the gym - at least the free weights work, even if it is all very old and dirty.
Lae itself is pretty bad but then i don't imagine anyone goes who doesn't have to for work. The only place I have been which feels more threatening is Baghdad. Random violence, muggings and rape are widespread. Most expat vehicles have steel grilles over all the glass. The 2 main security firms, G4S and Guard Dog do run a pretty slick shuttle service to the airport and around town. The golf club has a good Chinese restaurant, the yacht club is good for a drink and the war cemetery and tunnels are worth a visit. The scenery out of town is stunning.

Dear ZocLondon, We are pleased you found our rooms clean and comfortable, felt secure and enjoyed the atmoshere in our Sportsmans Bar with locals and visitors. The Internet in Lae can be frustrating and wifi can be intermittent depending if the main telcommunications provider is working effeciently. I have reccommended to visitors and guests that as a precaution they bring their own USB modem or Dongle before they arrive in PNG, especially if you are on business. The Lae Inter offers wifi and hotspot. We have just installed three tread mills to our gym. While Lae can be unsafe, guests inside the hotel compound are protected by high fences and security 24/7. Our security contractor Guarrd Dog Security patrol the premises at night and the hotel has a good reputation for being a safe place to stay. Indeed many local people come to the hotel in the evening to walk or run around in the safety of our compound. We look forward to welcoming you again one day. Kind Regards David

The first room I stayed in was 700 kina per night the shower was a trickle and the air con unit belonged in a museum.. Having changed to a slightly more expensive newly renovated room, I had no problems, it was very comfortable.
I stayed for three weeks, the service was very good. The staff were all very friendly and tried really hard to please. The menu was pretty good, I didn't have a bad meal while I was there.
Given you are in Lae the location was fine and secure. The Internet connection was pretty poor, the gym was okay.

Dear Franknbetty1, Thank you very much for your comments. Our newly renovated rooms are proving popular with our regular quests and visitors and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed staying in them. Internet in PNG can be unpredicable and while we rely heavily on our service providers, if they go down our community obviously becomes frustrated. It might be a wise move to come to the country with a USB Modem or Dongle in the event of poor connectivity with the Internet. Kind Regards David

I stayed in the Lae International Hotel for 6 weeks (April - May 2012) for work. I had a two room suite and the price was ridiculous, at about 45,000 Kina (about $22,000 AUD). But like everything in PNG it is overpriced.
Service is OK, nice grounds. The room was fine but it had tiny sugar ants so watch out where you store any food or sugary drinks. Bed was excellent and the room cleaning was fine, nice fresh towels - although on one day I got a 'clean' towel that had a strange smell about it.
Water quality here is not that good. There is a white powdery buildup in my kettle and I think it is chlorine. Having said that, I have drunk the tap water and had no issues at all.
Prices in the restuarant are not too bad but watch out when you check the bill. It is not unknown to be charged for things you didn't order. Also when you do order - please take my advice - DON'T order something special or any kind of variation from the menu! Papua New Guineans cannot (and I don't know why this is...) but they CANNOT cope with any kind of change from a schedule, or laid out instructions. It is strangely mechanical and childlike. I don't understand and I have never hit this issue anywhere else in my travels.
Power goes off regularly but the generator comes on quite quickly. My room had 60 odd pay TV channels and two big screen Samsung TV's which were good. My collegue had the other two bedroom suite and he only had 17 channels. The staff were not at all helpful in getting him the same service as I did - don't worry that our employer paid the same price for both rooms. Once again - service is variable.
A number of the lights blew in the room and I called up for this to be fixed, which it was - but unfortunately the maintainance man was not big on personal hygiene and it took me the best part of 2 hours to rid the room of the stink! Now some will see that as a value judgement and the guy was prompt and efficient - but sorry guys...at this price I expect a lot more.
There is a sportsman bar but it is full of smokers so we didn't go in there and the hotel claims to have a tennis court but it seems that the tennis court has been demolished to make way for new accomodation. Having said this, the grounds are nice and the staff have been polite and friendly so I don't have any earth shattering complaints.
Net access is best done via a Digicel locally bought dongle for your laptop. The inroom service isn't that good. You can get one of these dongles in town for only a few dollars and browsing is by time not download.
Overall - big charges, comfortable but after 6 weeks we are looking forward to home. If you do come here be careful of security and be sure to use G4S or GuardDogs security to get you from airport to hotel. Driving yourself in a rental car is very risky - lots of armed carjackings etc.
