Ourselves and another couple had the pleasure to stay at Tropic Star 2/25 – 3/2. This review is two-fold representing feedback from all 4 of us. First covering our Angler experience, followed by highlights from the wives who did not fish. Although the two experiences intertwine, it may help convince a non-Angler to come along. As a life-time Angler, and...

I actually don't know where to start. Everything was superb! The pick up at the airport was coordinated and easy. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable and perfect for us. No problem sleeping as we were worn out at the end of each day! But what we came for -- FISHING! I'm not going to...

This was our 6th trip to Tropic Star, and that says a lot, since we don't often go to back to the same place twice. The lodge is located in a beautiful serene secluded jungle. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The staff is so friendly and helpful they go out of their way to get to know...

Dear Jon W, We appreciate your feedback and positive remarks about our family operated lodge and world-class staff. Thank you for your appreciation of the things we can control. As a fisherman, I am sure you know that weather, currents, water temperature and bait availability can change your luck and it was tough marlin fishing during a prime time week....

No doubt Tropic Star wins the prize. Fishing is so good they book at least a year in advance during peak season. The staff will know your name when you arrive (magic I think). The crews have all fished here for decades. Now the food drinks and service. Basically asked and you shall receive. Pretty special considering your 100 miles...

I returned in December 2016 for another visit to Tropic Star Lodge. The staff and service are always superb. The Marlin fishing is the BEST in the World!!! I captured my 4th Billfish “Grand Slam” on the last day with a 700 Black Marlin, 750 Blue Marlin and two Pacific Sailfish! That is why I keep coming back here, again...

Quite an amazing experience, and one we will never forget. Fishing was amazing, and how the lodge is run is quite fascinating. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Tropic Star Lodge is a veritable paradise cut out of the side of a mountain at the edge of the Darien Jungle on the Pacific coast of Panama. The Lodge is situated 150 miles south of Panama City. It can only be reached by boat or plane, since there are no roads within a hundred miles. A charter plane lands on an airstrip in Pinas Bay. You then take a ten minute boat ride to Tropic Star Lodge. Our spacious cabins and rooms are air-conditioned, with a beautiful view of Pinas Bay. Each room has twin beds and private bath/dressing room areas. A king-size bed can be requested. The cabins have surrounding porches with chairs. Kayaking around the bayThe Lodge has a fresh water swimming pool and bar. A jungle trail has been cut across to La Playa Blanca, where you may enjoy swimming, sunning, and shelling on the beautiful white sand beach. This trail is over a small mountain and takes thirty to forty minutes to hike there. In order to really enjoy this walk you should be in very good physical shape! Kayaks are also available to enjoy the bay and Pinas river on your own. A jungle river trip to bargain with the "indigenous" Indian tribes is a fascinating experience, which can also Local Indian girlbe arranged. However, this trip can only be made during certain tides. Many guests bring sugar free candy for the children, and special "gifts" for the Indians, such as cloth, thread, needles, or other items that can be put to good use by the tribe. School supplies for the children are always welcome, as well as used tee shirts and children's clothes. Please pack these donations in a separate bag/box and identify this as "excess luggage." It will then travel to Pinas when space is available. Each afternoon when the boats return to the Lodge, "fish stories" are swapped while guests relax in the fresh water swimming pool, or drink pina coladas and eat fish fingers or sushimi on the veranda overlooking the bay, or in the air-conditioned bar. Multi-course dinners, complete with wine, are served in the scenic bay-view dining room each evening. The chef prepares various specialties, such as Baked Alaska, Cherries Jubilee, black bean soup; fresh baked pies and bread, ceviche, and many more varied and delectable dishes. A fresh "catch of the day" is offered, as well as our regular main course selection.
