Before we arrived at the STAR I was a little worried. We were travelling on our honeymoon, and so many reviews seemed to complain/comment about the overcrowded experience, the family-orientated nature of the hotel/unsuitability for couples, check-in and pool etiquette / staff response. We had an overwhelmingly positive stay, and although there may be some truth in the above, there...

Had a great stay at resort, with our two children. Kids club is excellent and the resort provided a stroller for us to use for our stay. Room was large enough for fold out bed and baby cot. Kids club is open 8am to 8 pm every day and is free of charge. You can order food and drink for...

I stayed here with my friend for 7 nights, and I wish it could have been longer. We arrived at 1pm, staff were very friendly and check in was fast. Our room was ready so we didn't have to wait at all which was good. The room was clean and comfortable, and being on the ground floor was great because...

It's still much better than your average hotel, but this was not up to the typical Shangri-La standards. Part of the problem was that there are large tour groups at the hotel. The morning breakfast buffet was always overcrowded. It was hard to get a table, and the service was not very good. I think the servers try, but there...

We have been coming to this resort twice a year for about six years now and its starting to get a bit tired around the edges. The thing that saves this place are the staff, they go out of there way to make your stay memorable. This resort seems to now cater for high numbers of tourists that are made...

Suites rooms has access to the Kinabalu lounge. Free flow of booze and food at certain timings! The pools are AMAZING! Kiddies will love the pool area, with the slides and water play. My kids (11 & 7) loved the kids club too. Overall this hotel is expensive but for most parts the ambience and service makes it worthwhile!

After enjoying previous Shangri-La hotels we looked forward to our visit to the Tanjung Aru Resort. Unfortunately it was a massive disappointment. The rooms are clean but very dated. The club was sub-standard relative to those we are familiar with at other hotel groups. At several breakfasts there was very limited food and often dishes were not replenished. The staff...

Upgrade to the Club lounge, costs 100 ringits each per day £20, but you get breakfast-a lovely choice, afternoon tea/coffee and cake, then as much alcohol you can drink from 6.30 to 8.30pm and appertiser size food, loads of it. We ate there most nights and was more than enough. Beer is 28 ringits for 2 small cans in hotel...
