We stayed at the Red Palm Hostel for 2 nights after landing in Kota Kinabalu late at night. Taxi to the hostel was 35RM from the budget airport taxi service and took about 20mins. Good points: * staff are very welcoming and informative * good location with access to restaurants, bars, shopping, diving and transport routes * very close to...

What got us to book Red Palm was its strategic location. Gaya Street is perfect for backpackers as it is situated near food spots (Kedai Kopi Yee Fung, Ken Wan Hing, etc) and just a walking distance to the Atkinson Clock Tower and Signal Hill Observatory. It is also about 10-15 minutes away from Suria Sabah Shopping Mall and Jesselton...

We stayed there in total for 3 nights and everything was so nice. Basic rooms with comfortable beds and AC. Bathrooms are clean. Tasty breakfast with good coffee, eggs, toast, oatmeal ... The owner is very helpful and friendly. He managed a cheap car rental for us and provided us lots of information for our itinerary. We would definitely stay...

I had a great stay at the Red Palm Hostel in downtown Kota Kinabalu. I ended up staying for a week in one of the dorm rooms. The place was always clean, and fresh towels were swapped for dirty ones on a regular basis. Breakfast is simple but filling - nice toast, great coffee, oatmeal, and hard boiled eggs. The...

I didn't plan to stay there at all - entered by chance and stayed for 4 great nights. The super-friendly owner showed me around - incredibly clean, spotless place, clean, pleasant rooms, clean bathrooms. Breakfast ( filling, tasty, including home-made oatmeal, beans, eggs) is included in the price. The location - Jalan Gaya in Kota Kinabalu - is as central...

Me and my friends arrived late at night from kundasang, we were greeted with warm welcome from the owner. Immediately felt like home. The owner were very informative, shared with us where to go, where to eat and where to avoid. The cleanliness of the place was very impressive. The room is super comfortable with ac. Definitely value for money...

I have noticed this hostel hasn't been reviewed on here for 3 years, so here's an update! It's my understanding that management have changed recently. Upon arrival I was greeted by name and checked in quickly. The manager/owner had a 30 min chat with me about what I should see and where I should go (because honestly I'm clueless!), he...

We wouldn't have chosen Red Palm Hostel if Akinabalu Youth Hostel were available on the other side of the street by the time of our booking. We booked a room with window on agoda, but we were given one without, and the excuse was"the same standard rooms with windows were sold out, sorry". The tricky point is, when the hostel...

I have no comment with environment the hostel, free breakfast, free wifi, free soap n shampoo. the thing I feel unhappy is first day when I check-in the hostel then the staff said price including free internet computer, could use anytime before 12am. Of course after I check-in and check...

Close to jetty and in heart of kk this place is clean and good value. Breakfast is toast and there are drinks available. Rooms are basic but have good ac. Toilets are clean and showers are nice and clean. Staff were around 24 7 and kind and helpful.
