This hotel is good for those who want to be closer to the centre of town and just need somewhere to sleep. It's quite old and things like towels are almost threadbare and a bit grey and the bedding is old and not as comfortable. Rooms are cleaned daily and the staff are friendly and helpful. The free high speed...

We booked 1 family room and 1 triple sharing room. The family room is huge, accommodating 5 of us after adding extra bed. Hotel is quite old, looking at least 30 years old but it's clean. There's only 1 elevator which is very small and slow. The staircase next to it was very bright so we walked instead, and hotel...

We had booked our stay at the Mingood hotel for quite a number of days. On entrance the hotel looked run down and the elevators looked dangerously old. Although the staff were friendly the rooms themselves were quite shocking. We weren't expecting to stay at a 5 star hotel. We just expected to have clean sheets, running water, a clean...

The Hotel Mingood has become my "go to" hotel choice in Penang after having given up on the Continental for being too noisy from nearby late nite discos. I've now stayed at the Mingood perhaps a half-dozen times over the past couple years with the most recent stay having been in January 2011. It is a small-to-medium sized family-run hotel...

Hotel is in a good location- short walk to everything. Room was decent size, had a fridge and wifi, but all rooms smell of smoke- no "non-smoking" rooms available. Bathroom was so small, you could shower on the toilet (typical budget hotel shower in Thailand- no door or curtain, just a shower head in the bathroom). We changed rooms after...

This is one of the better budget hotels I've stayed in. As soon as I walked through the door, the staff welcomed me and informed me about the area. Although I requested a single, they gave me a huge room with twin beds so I ended up using one for afternoon snoozes and the other for sleeping at night. They...

For: Good location just off Penang Road. Friendly staff. 5th floor roof garden cafe/breakfast area. Free breakfast. Room serviced daily. Safe and fridge in room with free water.Large room with aircon, en-suite & TV. Against: Ancient cobwebs around the mirror. Scruffy bedspread. Hotel could do with a make-over but at the price we felt safe and comfortable.

Another faded and dated gem, at a very cheap price ($22AUD for double room). We stayed for two nights and were quite satisfied with the hotel. Balcony! Old but adequate bathroom. The bedroom was very big so the aircon took quite a while to cool it down, but prefer a larger room if available rather than a small box. Fridge...
