The Noordin Mews hotel located in Georgetown Penang doesn’t look much from the outside – but is actually excellent! We paid £216.00 for three nights’ accommodation and found the place to be delightful. It is an old Chines Straits house wonderfully restored which means that although the frontage looks a little scruffy, it is long and thin, and behind the front has a small number of rooms which are fabulously located around narrow swimming pool. The rooms themselves are large and full of character with old photographs, mirrors, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning fans, and a large double bed, set into an alcove. The staff of the hotel were incredibly helpful whether it was Edric helping us with tickets for the Penang funiculars and the Habitat or his colleague Zoreen who gave us such a warm welcome with drinks and information about what to see and where to eat. (All staff spoke clear and excellent English too), The staff were also pro-active. Sit around the pool and you are offered a cool drink. Stay at breakfast and the coffee comes right away. We found the hotel a delightful place to come back to in the middle of hot sticky days to have a cup of tea or cold drink by the pool and just recharge before going out again into Georgetown. It's located very close to two huge shopping malls and also great areas for eating. You could walk from the hotel to many of the sites, but it is so hot and sticky that I recommend downloading the Grab app to your phone and using taxis. (Ask the staff – they will help you do this) We typically paid between 5 and 10 ringgits(£1-£2) for local taxi rides .
Breakfast at the Nordeen Mews hotel is as delightful as you might expect with plenty of tea and coffee, melon and mango and a range of pancakes, bacon, eggs or French toast . This is a pretty special place and I hope that you can enjoy it as much as we did.

It is rare to find hotel staff that are so meticulous when it comes down to ensuring guests (and their pets) have a pleasant stay; we wanted to just stay in despite having a list of things to do on the island. Like us, if you love travelling with your pet, we highly recommend Noordin Mews- rooms are comfortable, clean and well sanitised. Given the current situation, they have also gone above and beyond to ensure the stay is not just comfortable but safe, by keeping guests well informed of procedures being carried out from rooms being cleaned to care of cutlery at breakfast. The relaxed ambience is also complemented by an almost community-like spirit of pet owners on vacation. From Dogs and Cats to even Birds... our stay at Noordin Mews itself was what made our trip to Penang truly a memorable one. Most times, you wouldn’t even know there are amazing pets around until we meet at breakfast or spend a relaxing evening by the pool.
We are absolutely delighted we picked Noordin Mews as the first location to visit on our travels within Malaysia during this time.

The staff was extremely helpful and hospitable and provided lots of maps, restaurant tips etc. Early evening they close your room shutters and switch on the aircon and leave you a local biscuit. Great eye for detail and service! The hotel is very cosy and had a great Penang style atmosphere. The room was nice and had a good coffee machine. Bathroom was small but very nice and had shampoo/ conditioner/ shower gel and nice towels.Breakfast was nice and can be served inside and outside. Pool is nice and has a swim jet. Hotel is walking distance to a few nice restaurants and on the edge of the historic centre (10 min walk). Pet friendly. Truly enjoyed our stay here!

I loved this hotel – and even now, seven months after returning, often think about it. Its uniqueness was what stood out for me – it is unmistakably Penang in its style, and I’d highly recommend staying in a heritage hotel for this reason. Tucked away on a side street, as the name suggests, it was clearly once a mews as the entire property is long and narrow.

Once inside, it’s (to quote an over-used phrase) as oasis of calm. The rooms are arranged around a central courtyard where the pool, bar and breakfast area is. This area gets the sun throughout the day and is an amazing place to relax. The pool is narrow, as you’d expect, with a few different loungers and seats around it. If you have a ground floor room, you can almost step out of your room and into the pool – for this reason, I’d recommend a first floor room on the veranda above. It’s all spotlessly clean, and it’s clear that the staff work very hard to make it this way.

The bar and breakfast area is lovely, with cold beers available – perfect after a long day of streetfood and sightseeing. Breakfast is lovely – a different local option available each day. We had roti canai, dim sum and nasi lemak as well as various noodle dishes. All were cooked fresh and streets ahead of a buffet option.

Staff are so friendly and helpful, providing maps of the city’s street food and street art, two of its biggest draws, and advising on where to go for certain dishes or to see the best sights. They also helped with tickets for the funicular. Unusually for me though, it’s the room that I keep thinking about. The bed is built into the room in a small alcove and opposite is a sofa (which presumably would be used as a bed as well) in the same style. It’s all cool stone which means even without the air con on, the room offers some respite from the heat of the city. The shutters on the windows aid this and mean the room stays cool and dark. The furniture is all in keeping with the style of the hotel, aiding that feeling of being very much a part of the city. This is definitely not a hotel that could be just anywhere.

Location-wise, it’s slightly outside of the heritage centre, but we walked to the edge of it in about 15 minutes, past the modern Komtar tower and shopping centre. Walking is by far the best way to get around Georgetown if you can cope with the heat as there is always something wonderful to be found. We were also around 10/15 minutes from the New Lane hawker centre where we ate some of the best food of our trip for dinner each night. You could stay there for weeks and still find something new from the stalls.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here on a return visit to Penang – it’s one of the most characterful places I have ever had the privilege of staying at.

Overal experience 5/10
Came with my cats
Given room just infront of swimming pool
I asked for their best room -prolly i should have ask the most secluded room to get some privacy
Its really noisy n irritating with the sounds of people chatting outside (room not soubd proof) ,sounds of staff doing plating n cutlery from their cafe as my room just infront of the swimming pool n cafe, cant get away from the
Dog’s bark.Price for one night for their basic room is almost four to five stars hotelrate but toothbrush n toohpaste is not readily available and daily room makeup bed also not a routine unless u asked for both-initially when i ask to replace the bedding the staff seems hesistant as if its not routine, but they do vacuum the room if asked.
Not many plug point only at the mirror so quite a hassle if u tech savvy…non near the bed.
Internet wifi available but keeps disconnect bothers me while watching netflix and u have to keep reenter the password to reconnect . Celcome line almost nil and digi line at subpar level.
Water heater not readily available in room but u have to ask from their kitchen but they provide coffee machine in the room.

The good side: very welcoming staff upon arrival.
Help carry my pets.
Provide welcome drinks n welcome treats for my pets.
Location is good near town n easily foodgrab foodpanda n hotel brings the nonya baba heritage style breakfast too short just 2 hours from 8am to 10 am, not many choice just alacarte.
Swimming pool good as open till 10 pm.
Act the hotel is nice but maybe need upgrde the service and not too compact not to my taste as no privacy.i suggest hotel make it compulsary for dog owners to keep their dog on harness at all times as some of the dog wonder around even smell guest and try fo enter other guest room, what if they bite, who will b responsible for the treatment better be safe than sorry im okay with dogs just dont cross other guest boundary i nvr bring my cats outside of the room as i dont want it to bother other guess so i would hope other guest to respect my boundaries
No room dining provide.
I just wish the amenities and service upgraded to 4-5 starts level as the charge per nite is higher than 3 stars level.
They only serve breakfast and the said there is team time but never provide, prolly have to inform them.
I may repeat stay if no others pet friendly hotel available.

Noordin Mews is the perfect place if you are staying in the old part of Penang. It was very quiet, comfortable, and the staff provided great service for its guests. They cleaned our room twice a day, left little gifts, and were accommodating for our family when we needed tips and when we checked out early. Highly recommend staying here! Great breakfast included as well. There is also a mall nearby for any of your other needs.

This place is such a gem , hidden from the bustling noise of Georgetown, located nearby to many eateries and convenient for commuting by car or on foot to nearby attractions of the city. This is a restored colonial Straits Settlement shophouse, therefore it is a boutique stay and not a 5 star franchise hotel chains - therefore please do your homework before making that reservation. It’s great for small families, couples, small group of friends and even retirees, it has such a relax vibe to it. There’s an outdoor pool & pool lounges at the verandah of the ground floor, perfect for sunbathing and sipping that cold juice. Our fur kids enjoyed themselves tremendously, and the staff are warm, helpful and not to mention love animals!

We will be back for sure! And oh yes, breakfast is simple but scrumptious.

We rented all 16 rooms for a 50th birthday bash for a period of 4 days in February and could not have chosen any better place to stay! Belinda (General Manager), Edric and the rest of the crew are exceptional in every way, the word “not possible”is not part of their vocabulary! Everyone took great part in our planning of this big event making and made this an event none of the guests will ever forget! This lovely heritage hotel is full of charm and consist of beautifully decorated rooms with a mix of old and new decoration making it a home away from home. Breakfast is great as well including both western and Asian options. Look no further when going to Penang, Noordin Mews will cover anyone’s needs and make your stay the perfect one. We will never stay anywhere else when we go back to Penang!

Wonderful. Amazing little place, great vibes, lovely staff, friendly, really good a la carte breakfast. The location is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to the centre but it’s nice walking around and wasn’t an issue when we went out for dinner. There is a mall nearby so you can easily get stuff if you need it.

The only negative I have isn’t really an issue. More is feedback. The housekeeping would always reset our room each day. So if we had found the right position for the shower temperature, it would be changed. If we preferred to put the bath at in one area, it would be changed. If we hung out some clothes to dry in an area near the fan to dry, they would be moved back. I was keeping a water bottle all trip to refill and when leaving I wrapped it up around my trousers on the sofa so they would know not to throw away, but even then, they folded my trousers and threw away the bottle. So the feedback is, please don’t disturb how people have left their living space within reason. I’ve never had this at a hotel before so it was odd. Otherwise, this wasn’t an issue so I can’t recommend enough.

From the moment we arrived, we were looked after by the wonderful staff who made us feel at home immediately. The hotel is beautiful, immaculately clean and the attention to detail in the decor and facilities is excellent. I would highly recommend Noordin Mews to anyone looking for a traditional, comfortable and relaxing stay in Penang.

Dear Kelly Greetings from Noordin Mews! Thank you for your interest in planning to spend your holiday and birthday celebration with us at Penang. You can spend the first couple of days at Noordin Mews, explore Penang – a small island that is big on character and heritage and nonetheless a paradise for food lovers. We will definitely point you to all our favorite hawker food stall, Nyonya Restaurant, Malay Restaurant, Indian Curry House and lots other. Georgetown is extremely accessible, we will show you all the place of interest on your arrival. For the last day in Penang, personally I would recommend Batu Feringgi for you to spend a relaxing day on the beach and enjoy the cocktails and absolutely do nothing after all the walking and shopping at Georgetown . For the hotel option, you can check out Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa. This resort, have the perfect environment for you to relax and refresh!
