Detailed Reviews
The highlight of the Edison George Town was the great service! From the moment you step out of the taxi you feel like everyone in the staff is really doing their best to make your stay perfect. I never had to mention my room number - the staff seemed to know all guests by their names!
The building is also really beautifyl - too bad we didn't have any rain during our stay as the indoors waterfall propably looks really nice during the rain.
The only downside is a little bit poor sound proofing. The music from the restaurant next door can be easily heard in the rooms. Also any sounds in the hotel corridor can be heard in the rooms.

Thank you for staying with us during your recent visit to Penang. We appreciate your recognition of our personalised service from the moment you step into this Grand Old Dame and happy to learn that you noticed that we recognise all our guests by names. Please be advised that as with most heritage projects, strict compliance and imposition of restoration guidelines exist hence the extent to which enhancements made were limited, soundproofing was one of this area. We certainly look forward to welcoming you again in the not too distant future.

This is honestly quite a difficult review to write, as there were many things we loved about this hotel but others we really didn't love at all.
So let me start with the positives:
The location is perfect for a couple of days sightseeing. You can pretty much walk everywhere in George Town from the Edison so that's a big bonus.
The main part of the property is lovely. It's an old heritage mansion and has been very tastefully turned into a boutique hotel.
The service is exceptional and the staff are really warm and friendly and can't do enough for you. A big thank you to Sophia for her restaurant recommendations.
Extra little touches like afternoon tea from 3pm to 5pm, complimentary wine and cheese between 6pm and 7pm, and sweet treats and snacks available throughout the day were a really nice addition.
So now for the things that we didn't love so much:
Our room: unfortunately the room we were allocated was at the back of the hotel in an extension so not part of the beautiful main building, and was also situated directly above the kitchen. Ironically we were told that we were given this room as it would be quieter away from the noise of the hawker centre opposite. However we were woken every morning at around 5:30 by the noise from the kitchen as food prep commenced for the day. We also were not particularly keen on the layout of the room as the sink was located in the bedroom rather than in the bathroom. In addition the AC was quite loud and didn't cool the room particularly well.
The pool: unfortunately not a great space for relaxing. If you happen to have some downtime during your stay and are hoping to spend an afternoon relaxing by the pool you may be better off choosing a different hotel. The pool is long and thin with really only enough space for one adult to swim or a couple of children to play and there are only 5 or so sunbeds on the decking area.
In conclusion: if you are in George Town for a couple of nights and are looking for a nice hotel close to everything then the Edison is a good option. Unfortunately we don't think we could recommend it for a longer stay.

+1
We stayed for 3 nights, a family of 3 with a 5 year old child. The hotel is beautifully set in a heritage mansion. The staff and service were impeccable, with the staff remembering our names and always very helpful.
The rooms are very spacious with beautiful high ceilings and lovely touches like a hand written welcome note, a shopping basket for you to use on your stay and some great Penang heritage books.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable, I loved the rain shower in the bathroom.
During turn down service, a jug of fruit infused water and some snacks were left in the room.
If you have children, I would recommend requesting a ground floor room which was very convenient.
It’s a small boutique hotel but they still managed to fit in a lovely lap pool around the side which is nicely shaded by trees and a great respite from the Penang heat.
One of the best things is “The Lounge” in the lobby where there are food, drinks and snacks all day included in the room rate.
Breakfast (7am-1030am) with eggs, breads, cereals, , nasi lemak, afternoon tea (3-5pm) with local cakes and cookies and happy hour (6-7pm) with wine and cheese was a nice addition to the hotel and it was great to be able to get drinks all day.
The location is great and within easy walking distance to the main Georgetown core UNESCO heritage sites. The manager Ivan and the owner Eddie are very personable and spent time with all guests like they were old friends. Highly recommended and would definitely stay here again when in Penang.

What sets Edison apart from other boutique hotels in town is the impeccable genuine services provided by the team of warm and professional staff. The building exudes old colonial charms in a contemporary setup, rooms are simple and non-pretentious. Highly recommended for travelers who want a minimalist stay with attentive services.

We spent three days and two nights at The Edison and it was everything we hoped it would be. Elegant architecture but with a sympathetic, modern upgrade. The staff are all wonderful and can’t do too much for you. George Town is a wonderful area to explore, but after being out in the heat and hustle and bustle, The Edison provides a welcome opportunity to cool off and relax, whether by a dip in the pool or a cold drink in the lounge. We loved having access to the fully stocked lounge with drinks and snacks, and breakfast was plentiful with eggs cooked to order. The room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed and great shower. I’d love to see the hotel to do more to be environmentally conscious such as eliminating single use toiletries and adding recycling bins in the rooms. While we weren’t bothered by it, if you’re a light sleeper, then pack ear plugs and an eye mask. In summary, I wouldn’t hesitate to book The Edison again for the attentive hospitality, stylish environment and great location.

Top Points: Amazing location, spacious and spotless rooms, no excessive noise from the busy night hawker centre opposite (ear plugs thoughtfully provided which I did not need). Bonus Points: wine/cheese hour, nostalgic snacks, accomodating & lovely staff, boutique feel, security in place at night. If you're a solo traveller looking for a stay reflective of Penang's heritage and character, this is the place to be.
My only regret: Not staying longer.

Stayed in The Edison for a night during Raya Holiday period and it is our best experience ever for staying in a boutique hotel. We will be definitely coming back here again during our next visit to Penang.
Really appreciate their hospitality even just for 2d 1n
Here are some + + for other travellers to consider
1. The location of the hotel is very strategic for travellers like us who wanted to explore Georgetown by feet.
2. Great Value for money. RM400 for a night in a comfy deluxe room and it is inclusive of breakfast , a glass of wine for each guest during WINE HOUR and unlimited access to the drinks/snacks in their Lounge.
3. The moment we stepped in to the lobby, Evan, who was handling our check in was so warm and friendly, Already make us to feel so welcomed.
4. All the staffs there basically will make u feel like u are the VIP. One of their manager Albert is so so so nice and passionate, he always checking out on us, spent time talking to us and given plenty of suggestions in a writing note for us to look out for.
5. Their bed is super duper comfortable. We had great quality of sleep there after long day of walking tour around Georgetown.
Lastly, There is only one flaw that I can find through out the stay-
There are quite a lot of Mosquito at the outdoor area of the lounge, but they are so kind to offer us the anti mos spray to help us out.
In Overall, I will still rate them 10/10 !

Good place to stay in Penang, it’s near all the tourist locations with walking distance. The staffs are very attentive. They have complementary snack and drink 24/7. We visited during Covid so breakfast was managed carefully, you have to submit what you want to eat the day before and it’s ok to dine in room. We stayed 3 days they gave us the same menu, so if the breakfast has more variety it would be perfect

We stayed there for 4 days and 4 nights. The staff went out of there way to help us. The portable wifi device was a great addition to enable us to use the grab car app when out and about. I had a broken leg and they were extremely helpful. Our stay included a free complimentary breakfast and the kids could get drinks and snacks throughout the day. I'd highly recommend staying there.

Spent the weekend in The Edison to celebrate the anniversary with my girlfriend. From start to end the service and hospitality rendered by the staff at The Edison was impeccable. They gave us a delightful chocolate cake and hand-written card to celebrate with us, and paid great attention to our needs throughout our stay.
The 24 hour lounge was welcoming, and although Penang is a food haven, we preferred spending late nights in the Edison lounge chilling over cup noodles and tea (all courtesty of the hotel). The rooms have nice high ceilings and was well stocked with everything you'd need for your stay. The earplugs to cancel out noise was a pleasant inclusion. I'm definitely going to be back, and I certainly will recommend anyone to consider The Edison for your next visit to Penang.

After staying, I would say yes, it's more for solo or couple travellers.
Only 1 suite has bath tub, i stayed at the other suite.
We were in the George suite on the 1st floor. The hotel staff carry up your bags for you - no elevators. Our room was by the library- some rooms on the ground floor have alot of foot traffic going past them. Our room was very quiet in that respect.
No elevator but we had a ground floor room so ask for one of these on booking. You are best to book directly with the hotel. Very helpful staff
Greetings from The Edison George Town and thank you for your enquiry.
Due to the design and nature of the heritage mansion, we do not offer rollaway beds. However, we do have a set of connecting room, that will be able to accommodate 4 adults.
Please contact us directly at +604 262 2990 to assist you with your booking and requirements.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
