Detailed Reviews
Located a few minutes walk from the main road where all the shops and tour agents are. Very busy on weekends.
The owners are very friendly and helpful with any questions you may have.
The grounds are kept in immaculate condition as well as the swimming pool.
I stayed in one of the chalets. The bed had clean linens and provided a comfortable sleep in quiet surroundings.
Limited furniture being a 2 tier wooden unit to lay clothes etc and a drying rack. Aircon and TV both worked fine though the TV only had 5 channels including 1 with movies in english.
The bathroom was a small wet room with a rain shower providing good hot water and water pressure.
The porch had a table and 2 chairs so I brought 1 chair inside so that I could work at the wooden table unit.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay here.
Final note, the daily feeding of hornbills at 6.30pm is in the same street.

We stayed for one week in an A-frame cottage and enjoyed every second. The walk in rate is 150 RM during week days and 170 RM on the weekend per night. We got a little discount.
The property is perfect for a longer stay. They have a nice pool and garden area. You can hang out at there in sun loungers. Shaded places are also available.
The cottages are comfortable and have enough space.
The hosts provide jam and butter. You just have to buy toast and can prepare your own breakfast. A fridge is also provided in the common area.
Everything is extremly clean (room, pool, garden etc.)
The hosts are very friendly and gave us tips about the Island. Our preference are a bit off the beaten track (lost places) but they could help us out.
The nipah beach, coral beach and restaurants are in walking distance.

We found this place at the last minute and were very lucky as it is absolutely delightful. It is a small property (eight individual chalets/cottages), located in a quiet road 3 minutes from the beach. Everything is immaculately clean and the gardens that surround are pristine. The overall vibe is one of calmness and tranquility. Alia and her family obviously take immense pride in it and could not be more welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended.

We tried to stay at this guest house in late August 2011. We booked in advance, and after a long email exchange with the owner, we received an email from him that stated:
“...We're pleased to inform you that your reservation of 1 unit A-Frame Cottage on the 26th - 29th August 2011 (4 Days/4 Nights) is confirmed...”
His email went on to tell us how to get to his place and all the risks of talking to men just off the ferry who might tell us that the guest house was booked out. He did not indicate he needed anything further from us to re-confirm the booking.
We are on bicycles and after riding 90k from Ipoh, catching the ferry and then riding over the steep hills to Nipah, we arrived at 2:15pm on the 26th. The owner met us at the gate to inform us that he only had a room for one night because he had rented to someone else the remaining 3 nights. He said that we did not 'final' confirm our booking. We of course, thought that his email to us had confirmed the booking, as it clearly stated it did.
Being a busy period, we ended up having to take another hotel that was not very nice, and was quite a distance away from the village of Nipah, which has the nicest beaches on the island. The whole incident reduced my partner to tears and pretty much ruined our 4 day holiday on the island.
To be fair, the owner was very apologetic and spent a hour or so trying to help us find alternative accommodation. During this hour however, he commented that he did not like to use booking agents like agoda and hotels.com, saying that booking direct was the way to go. I'm sorry to mark him and his accommodation so low but the booking process is vital to any stay. And in our case his loose system caused us significant stress. He needs to be more competent at “booking direct”, including making it clear if he requires something further to 'really' confirm the booking or he should sign up for one of the booking engines. You can't be the number one guest house on the island if people show up and you've given away their room.
Future travellers beware - make sure that you verify and re-verify your booking.
For what it's worth, what we saw of the guest house in our brief hour looked nice.

Dear readers, The guest was not happy that we were unable to accommodate them as it was during the Peak Season and they only sent a last minute e-mail inquiry. Thank you.

I stayed here for 3D2N in A cottage room. Not so impressive as I paid Rm180 per night(peak season). Pros is: you can experience a humble guesthouse run by family, quiete, clean, enjoy dipping pool if it's raining, helpfull owner, sharing fridge & unique accomodation. Cons is: quite far from beach, no toiletries(you can't buy at the counter cause you don't have the option to do so), a grouch owner (you can see they complained a lots about their bad guests in Facebook or Tripadvisor comment) I hope I won't get negative comment after reviewing this! Lols. Only 1 throw blanket in cottage room which is too thin to cover 1 person, no cup no glass no toilet paper in a room, everything must get at their cafe. So called a 'hostel canteen'. Lots of rules Do-it-yourself breakfast was okay but not so acceptable when the owner sit together looking at everything their customer do. Their cafe seating & cooking facility Only cater for breakfast. To conclude based on my true experience, this guesthouse is not recommended for money value. Cheers!

Responded 3 Nov 2014
Dear dee_sh2112, Thank you for your review. We are constantly upgrading and adding more facilities to our property from time to time. We are glad to know that you enjoyed our dipping pool. Sorry, we are not psychic to read your mind that you needed extra toiletries. You should have approached us during your stay here if you needed extra blankets, glasses and even extra toilet roll if the toilet roll or shampoo in your room is finished instead of keeping quiet and then complain online after checking-out. We do provide bath towels, 2-In-1 hair & body shampoo, etc in the room. Hair-dryer is upon request. However, we do not provide dental kit, shower cap, bathroom slippers, sewing kit, cotton buds and emery board unlike other hotels or resorts. When you made a reservation inquiry, we have already informed you that Nipah Guesthouse is located far from the beach. So why did you proceed to book and then whine on TripAdvisor after that? You should save yourself all the trouble and book at other resorts which is much closer to the beach that better suit your expectations. We post a lot on our Facebook about any upgrades, news, photos of our guests and facilities that happened in Nipah Guesthouse (we even post photos when we go on holidays too! LOL) to share with our guests. It's strange that you only noticed the ‘negative’ posts and ignored all the rest. If the owners can’t even sit and have breakfast at their own common dining area to mingle and assist their guest (especially first timer guests), then where should the owners sit? The owners need to be around during breakfast to check and replenish the food and cutleries at the buffet line if necessary, don’t you think? Can’t the owners enjoy their own breakfast at the common dining area too? Why the double standard? The owners enjoy treating all their guests like friends and getting to know them better and at the same time to exchange ideas and experiences. So, sorry if you felt offended and uncomfortable when the owners sit and chat with their guests in the mornings at the common dining area. Most of our other guests appreciate the service and attention showered to them at the same time we respect and provide them the privacy they needed. You should have told us if you do not like to be greeted in the mornings so we wouldn’t bother you. Thank you!

They dont like kids..but with their own mistaked we were excepted to stay there..after a few communication through email. Already told ms Alia..we were 5 with 1 kid, but she appoved n we paid rm430.
When we arrive, she asked us to pay another rm140 for a bigger room bcoz of my boy. Don t want to spoil our holiday..so we paid.
At 5.30, bring my kids to the pool, my son n daughter already inside it. But the owner mr Anuar, told us to buy swimming attire. Our cotton clothing will only made his pool dirty n he will have a hardtime cleaning it on his own. Frusted with those words..we went to the beach.
At breakfast..the lady told my daughters n husband not to take more than 2 sausage per person. Oh my godness! We really disappointed with them...what kind of hospitality that they practice? We are some somekind of primitive family that dont know how to stay in a hotel?
Fine, we decided to pack our belonging out quietly...But then the owner started the arguement..

Dear Ladies & Gentlemen, this particular review is very much anticipated. We don’t feel the need to comment much because we’ll let you decide for yourself whether the said incident is true or false. During the reviewer’s stay, we’ve tried our best to make her family’s vacation as much memorable as possible but we’re sorry that all our efforts proved futile as it is very challenging trying to discuss and reason with someone who refuses to read e-mails, only want things done her way without respecting other in-house guests and who does not speak the whole truth. Thank you.

Hi there;
I read the reviews here, and saw the pictures and figured it would be a nice place to stay (which it was in a way).
First the positives: decent area, just a few minutes walk to the beach, really nice owners. Large, airy dining area. Very clean. Clear directions on how to get there.
The negative: it's overpriced for what you get (in my opinion)
We had a small A-frame with a not overly comfortable bed. There was a/c and a small tv, and an attached bathroom, but the room itself was pretty tight for space (despite the "2nd storey"). There was seating outside facing the pool, but it faced east, so it was in the direct sun all day. Ditto the dipping pool. No shade, just so you know!
The other thing that bothered me was doing my own dishes. Now, i have no problem with doing the dishes, I actually kind of like it, but not on my vacation! I had no problem cooking/assembling my own breakfast, but for 50 dollars a night (or thereabouts) the dish doing seemed a little bit unnecessary.
Again, the hosts couldn't have been nicer, but I felt a bit duped by all the rave reviews here. Hope this helps someone out! Cheers.

Responded 6 July 2014
Dear Boeby L, Nipah Guesthouse is just a small, humble and simple family-run guesthouse. We are sorry to disappoint you that we are not a huge luxury five-star cookie-cutter resort. When you e-mailed us to inquire about room availability, we replied with every detail including photos of the room and our Cook-It-Yourself Home Breakfast. You knew of our breakfast concept and having to wash own dishes when I’ve briefed you during check-in (which didn’t seem to have bothered you at that moment) and therefore I’m surprised that you’re now complaining after leaving. As far as we remember during your 3-day stay, we did not force you to eat in our common dining area during breakfast because you are free to look for your own breakfast elsewhere if our breakfast doesn’t suit you and if you would prefer to be waited on hand and foot. The breakfast that we provide is complimentary for all of our in-house guests. During your stay here last year, when we asked you is everything alright, are you enjoying your stay – your answer was everything is great (and you didn’t inform us about the ‘not overly comfortable bed’ – does that mean it’s too hard or too soft for you?) so why only now complain in TripAdvisor? Our pool deck chairs is not fixed glued to the floor, you can shift the deck chairs to any directions or anywhere you like if you did not like it facing east or even under a shade if you please. Regarding the rates that you claimed was expensive, I’m not sure what did you expect during the Super Peak Season (Christmas) when the whole island is crowded and full? With the price that we offer clean and comfortable accommodation, 24-hours dipping pool, Complimentary Cook-It-Yourself Home Breakfast, free Internet wifi connection, coffee/tea making facilities, 24-hours unlimited hot/cold/room clean drinking water supply and refrigerator in our common dining area for you to use in our clean and peaceful haven, I believe it’s a very reasonable price for what you paid. But I guess you can never please everyone even if you offered them the world. Thank you.

first off....I can't believe we''ve finally arrived. Initially I'd stumbled upon this Unique GH late 2013...planning to stay for Mar' 2013; however it was closed for annual maintenance. So This time round, we managed to secure our bookings for mar01 to Mar04.....and upon arrival, both Anuar and Alicia were at the front......expecting our arrival. Wow....it felt like coming home. That's the start ok
Before the registration, we were bantering like long lost friends. Soon we learnt that Nipah GH has just re-opened after being closed for a month. The family was really looking forward to its first day. We were amongst the few Day 1 guests. We met Aira, their lovely 3-yr old.....and later Aila, the new-born. Alicia is still in confinement but already up-N-about....in her elements, making us feel sooooooooo welcomed & at home. Thank you so much Alicia.
Next is Anuar....he's the Malaysian we are so proud to call: 'brother, friend, GH owner, manager, landscape gardener, artist, caretaker, father....and finally Alicia's beloved husband. All-rolled-into-One. You have to come here and meet him. By the next morning we felt like 'old buddy'. He designed, constructed and maintains this whole small complex. Amazing.
It is immaculately spotless.....we could sit on the ground (which we did on our checkout!!....)
The Design
Everything from its inception-to- designs & construction, (A-framed cottages, chalets, guesthouse, pool, cabanas and its landscaped exterior, along with all its naturally arranged plantings & its various decor....are Anuar's own handicraft, truly work of ART- simply natural and elegant! Nipah GH just won its latest award- Trip Advisor Travellers Choice 2015.
Congratulations! You deserve it!
We chose the Deluxe Chalet - roomier for my sister and I. We enjoyed every aspect of staying here for 3 nights. In the mornings we felt so much at home with DIY breakfast (others have reviewed in detail). Each Mid-morning relaxing by the pool in the lovely Cabana, my sister and I were well-inspired to sketch/paint the surrounding decoys, plantings.
Lunch for us is just a short walk across to Teluk Nipah for its local fares.....the stalls have beachfront seatings. For those who prefer a mix of western and local food--its a 10-15min walk further down to Coral Beach.
We headed off to Coral Beach for a relaxing afternoon under the cool shade of trees, lounging on beach-chairs provided by the restaurants there. In the evening we dinedby-the-beach, watching the sunset in the horizon. As this was off-peak period, the beach was pretty quiet and so tranquil in the glow of the sunset. After that, It was a cool walk back to our home-away from home, Nipah GH.
As the pool is opened 24-h, we always enjoyed our late evening laps in the very warm water.....so rejuvenating! A very good end to a long day of fun-filled activities. Even though there's no hot water, but it was a non-issue...the evening air is warm in the shower! The room had good air-conditioning, strong wi-fi......clean & quiet environment that afforded us a very good night rest.
What more could one ask for....Anuar & Alicia gave all their guests 5-star service!
We hope to return!
