It was our first trip to Ipoh. The location of this hotel is perfect to travel, as the attractions are minutes away by car. Room was spacious & comfortable with provided daily essentials. It’s good that they offer two types of breakfast cuisine for stayers : western (Myth Cafe) or local (Old Town). I would prefer Myth Cafe as you get to upgrade the size by paying RM5-10 for selected breakfast, the Old Town doesn’t taste good at all. Portion is small and not very hygiene (there’s ants all over the coffee sugar). The cleanliness of the room can be improved. Despite the room has an aesthetic & vintage design, I can see there’s dust on the table & toilet. Washroom is very small but it’s good for a quick brush up & shower. I would suggest to place a diffuser (doesn’t have to be branded as long it smells good) to removed the odor from the toilet bowl. Overall we enjoy the stay.

Hello Karmei0420, The M Boutique Family is wondering what we can do better; We are glad that you liked the overall ambiance in our whimsical sMall-ish hoMe and have noted your comments; thanks for your honest review, and we will look to improve on our housekeeping methodologies. Boutique it may be, if that means old, old fashioned and funky.
Having said that, the rooms are reasonably large, well equipped and clean. A great feature is multiple charging points for phones, laptops etc.
The Bathroom has twin wash basins with duplicate floor mats, towels, and hand towels and a sliding door to seal the shower or the toilet. The shower is excellent with a recessed floor, large shower head and water of an adequate temperature. No leakage into the floor.
Breakfast is basic with Asian and Western on offer.
Location is good and complimentary parking is provided which is very handy.
With the exception of Farah, the demeanour of staff could be enhanced by attitude readjustment and training in customer service.

Hello johnwU4958QJ, The M Boutique Family is wishing everyone to stay clean and healthy; We are glad that you liked the overall ambiance in our whimsical sMall-ish hoMe and have noted your comments; thanks for pointing out our Family members, and we will try to locate her, as the name Farah does not register in M Boutique Ipoh. However, thank you for your comments and we know that we may not be to everyone's taste, something that we knew since our inception in 2013. With the advent of today's trends, Boutique Hotels have various spices, and we were made to look old in conjunction with our Malaysian History. As always, we benchmark our performance on TripAdvisor and will always be committed to improve, based on all feedback, be it negative or positive. As the M Boutique Family fires ourselves up for a new day, perhaps you should venture to try our other personalities like M Boutique Station 18 (The Cool Jazzy One), M Boutique Kampar (The Studious Punk) or M Roof Hotel & Residences (The Corporate Bigwig)? Checked into M boutique hotel, Ipoh for one night only.
Booked 4 rooms, 3 standard twin and a triple room.
But we were given 3 rooms with double beds instead. Hmmmm. Not convenient for us.

The triple room , 215 had some
leaking problem from above floor.

So they were moved to room 214.
Bed bugs in this room . On the double bed , nearer to the curtains.
My friend could feel them crawling.

In my double room, on the morning before checking out, upon returning to the room, suddenly , it reeked of urine smell. The floors on wash area was dry ! Couldn't explain why !

The hot water is not very reliable .
My friend had to take a cold shower at night.

On the plus side, staffs are friendly and helpful, ample parking.

The rooms are clean. Housekeeping did well

Depending on guests, in the shower, it is glass doors all around. With blinds on one side.
The toilet has an open concept.

Lighting is limited in the room, lit up by two table lamps.
But the wash area is well lit.

Two types of breakfast is served . One Continental, one Asian.

Most of us opted for the Asian, no complaints .
Good service, even though only one guy was servicing.

Hello LSC111, The M Boutique Family is putting up the Chinese lanterns; We are happy that you liked the overall ambiance in our whimsical sMall-ish hoMe and have noted your comments; please note that we do not have and room category called Standard Twins. All our Standard room categories are Standard Doubles (Queen Sized Bed), therefore we are a little miffed on your comment. While we endeavour to ensure all our rooms are in working condition, there are times when it does give us issues, but glad that our guys helped you out with some of your issues. As always, we benchmark our performance on TripAdvisor and will always be committed to improve, based on all feedback, be it negative or positive. Very small rooms, only just clean enough. The room feels claustrophobic and cramped with a window that looks over nothing through brick fretwork. Really underwhelming in the extreme for the price paid. Very basic, cheap fittings, only two clothes hangers, feels a bit dingy and tired. Definitely not recommended for more than a single nights stay. Breakfast is cold and mediocre with almost no selection and totally unsatisfying. Location is in walking distance to the old town if it’s not overly hot but is in a thoroughly unuplifting part of town with little to offer in the vicinity. Staff are friendly which is the only good point in this completely uninspired so called boutique hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it and I certainly wouldn’t stay here again.

The M series of hotels in Ipoh look great on their website, and the exterior and interior of M Boutique are certainly striking and show a bit of effort has gone into their design.

The rooms are smallish but have some character and are fairly well-appointed. Ours had windows (although the view is obscured by the frame that covers the outside of the hotel) but be aware that there are rooms in the middle of the hotel that won't have any natural light. There is a mini-bar fridge (unstocked), but in a recurring theme on our trip it's ability to chill anything was negligible.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and there are a choice of two venues on site at which to have it, but neither are worth writing home about.

Staff were professional enough but not overly attentive.

The biggest drawback is probably the hotel's location. On the face of it, M Boutique is probably only a 20 or so minute walk to the heart ion either the Old Town or the New Town. However, it is surrounded (for blocks) by car yards and mechanic shops. So a), there is very little nearby if you want to duck out for something to eat to even head to a 7-11 to stock up on snacks and drinks. Probably more importantly however, whilst it may well be, the area didn't feel particularly safe after dark, and nor do the areas you need to travel through between the Old or New Town and the hotel. We did walk home on our first night and my partner swore we wouldn't be doing that again. There are many stray dogs around too. Luckily Grabs are plentiful and cheap, but the location does detract some what.

That said, the hotel is very good value, is still pretty central, and they have clearly tried to create a boutique experience and have succeeded on some levels.

Hello flavour2804, The M Boutique Family is going around visiting relatives in our new spanking red Tee Shirts; We are happy that you liked the overall ambiance in our whimsical sMall-ish hoMe and have noted your comments; thank you very much for your review and please note that yes, we have always be telling everyone that our location is located on the Fringe of Town. To many tourists, it's always best to be smack right in the Town Center, but Ipoh is a little weird as there is "not really one Town Centre". We assume you would have preferred somewhere a little closer to Ipoh's Oldtown and though you are correct, it's accessible via the back roads from our hoMe. However, like you pointed out correctly, we too do not recommend our guests to use these roads as safety is of our utmost priority. With regards to stray dogs, we have been doing our part in complaining to the local council for over 6 years now. As always, we benchmark our performance on TripAdvisor and will always be committed to improve, based on all feedback, be it negative or positive. We also believe that we as honest as possible in whatever we do online, and will continue to do so. As the M Boutique Family ponders on if AI will take over humans, we are still grateful that you had loved your experience in our hoMe. I was a bit suprised the moment I entered the lobby. They turned these shoplots into a cosy modern boutique, with the retro touch...A set of hand sanitiser and a mask as a complimentary pouch, and even a 1.5L drinking bottle could suprise you! I would say, their details for hygiene and cleanliness were so magnificent. The bathroom was so clean.

This is definitely a beautifully designed Instagram worthy hotel. The amount of effort put into designing and decorating this place is stunning.

We stayed here in 1st Feb 2020 for a night. We checked in late as we had a bridal makeup in Kampar and checked in after we finished at about 11pm.

We loved the room and all the little touches. It looked beautiful and clean but on closer inspection we were baffled at somethings. Firstly the blinds that separate the bathroom and bed was extremely dusty. Secondly, the edges of the shower area was dirty and slimy. While having my shower, I just used my toe to run through the area to check of the tiles discoloured but it was actually slimy and dirty!!!! Yucks! There were also mould on the tiles! This is just unacceptable!!!!

We have read so much about this hotel for the last couple of years and was looking forward to staying there and this experience just destroyed it!

The phone service was equally bad in our room and the wifi was terribly slow. I am not sure if it’s the case in the room we stayed in Room 130.

It’s very disappointing about the level of cleanliness for such a beautifully designed hotel and such a damper for us.

The hotel was a disappointment as before booking, there was no indication of the rooms are separated as per budget hotels where the price is different for rooms with windows against rooms without windows. Only upon after going to the room was one informed of additional charges for rooms with windows. Also, the rooms are extremely small and not worth the price paid for. Apart from this, the food outlet is not part of the hotel. Everything consumed in the outlet has to be paid separately unlike the normal hotels. A great disappointing stay if I may say so.

We have noted your comments, and please be informed that we do state that our entry level rooms do not come with windows, on our own website including our partner websites. It’s a recommended place to stay in Ipoh. Price per night it’s affordable <100RM per night..

Check-in time it’s a 1500hr people, don’t come too early or you’ll need to wait..

Deco it’s so unique, decorated using recycled items (in a clean way tho). Wifi it’s not working so well tho so get close to the door for the wifi. There’s a laundry room - get the reception to assist you. There’s a cafe/restaurant downstairs Japanese-Chinese cafe (not sure if it’s halal) close at 1430hr tho..

M Boutique exceeded our expectations in every way! With a stylish theme to the corridors, reception and rooms, it was definitely the best place in Ipoh for anyone not wanting to pay the lofty prices of The Haven or The Banjaran. The location was excellent although getting to Concubine Lane and the central tourist spots did involve a short Grab ride as it would be a little far to walk. The gym was also well equipped and very clean. We loved Ipoh and would definitely stay there again!

Hello 343elaine, Yes there are ample parking spaces at M Boutique Ipoh, as we also have a parking area behind the Hotel that is free for guests. This designated parking area is on private land, and you will not get fined by the local council. Elsewise, there is more street parking but you will have to put a parking coupon following the Ipoh local council rules and regulations. Regards, The M Boutique Family

Is this M Hotel the same as M Hotel boutique? If totally different, are they next to one another?
Ipoh, Malaysia7 contributions1 helpful vote
Hello Claudia K, I am not too clear on the question, but if you are referring to M Hotel Singapore, no we are not connected to them. There is no M Hotel in Perak, but there is a M Motel in Meru, Perak. If you are asking about us, M Boutique Family of Hotels, we have 4 properties in Perak, at different locations; 1. M Boutique Ipoh - Jalan Leong Boon Swee, Ipoh, Perak (93 Rooms Boutique Hotel and our Flagship Hotel) which is close to Ipoh Oldtown. 2. M Boutique Station 18 - Pengkalan, Perak (48 Room Boutique Hotel and is 20 minutes from Ipoh Oldtown). Close to AEON DO MALL STATION 18 - this is considered a little on the outskirts of main town. 3. M Boutique Kampar - Kampar, Perak (38 Room Boutique Hotel) and is located in the City of Kampar and about and hours drive to Ipoh City. 4. M Roof Hotel & Residences - Jalan Dato Lau Pak Kuan (150 Room Business Type Hotel) Located in Ipoh Garden for people who are driving and familiar with Ipoh, is 10 minutes either way to Ipoh Oldtown, Tasek, Canning Garden, Ipoh Garden. Hope this assist you in your planning. Best regards, The M Boutique Family.

Hello K F C, Thanks for the message. While many have answered you, well, we are kind of wheel chair friendly ... we do have a ramp (as we have wooden floors, so it's wooden at the main entrance), with a large door to open. Elevators are smaller than most BIG hotels, since we are only a 93 room hotel, but our main concern will be our rooms, as it is very compact, and there may not be enough room to move your wheelchair in the room. Hope this helps. Best regards, The M Boutique Family
