With beach front accommodations costing outrageous during the peak winter holiday season, Kunang-Kunang Heritage Villas ended up being a great option away from the beach. Its proximity to the airport but away from everything touristy was bit of a concern but with few flights (all during the day) in and out of Langkawi the plane noise was barely noticeable. Despite the property's isolation, we never had a problem getting a Grab ride and ended up enjoying the peace and quiet away from the beach areas. The wooden villas were full of character and spacious. Wifi was a bit weak but not a major problem. The pool within a pond was beautiful and a good spot to chill during the day. The breakfast lacked variety but was more than adequate.

We just spent 4 days in Villa Ulu...and wish we stayed longer! Kunang Kunang is a relaxing, stylish and friendly oasis in Langkawi, an island that is naturally beautiful but struggling with overdevelopment and the ugly side of tourism. The villas are clean, beautifully furnished and very spacious, set around a lily pond, chickens roam and a lovely cat visited us regularly. Staff are superfriendly and helpful. The villas are a 10 min drive from Cenang beach, but with the lovely pool area we didn’t even bother to go. The airport is nearby, and the take off and landing is audible, however there are only a few flights daily. The sound of the muezzin from the mosque in the nearby kampung was just audible and added to the ‘village vibe‘ of the place. Breakfast was served in the open air restarurant, which is also serving lunch and dinner. We would come again for sure, and always prefer Kunang Kunang over any beachside place on Langkawi.

This place was our first place to stay together with my wife during our three weeks honeymoon on Langkawi island. We changed four places overall and I have to say it was one of the best or even the best one. It was a perfect start of our honeymoon. We arrived there after 24+ hours connection flights. After first few hours in the place, we felt already calmed and relaxed. The gardens and the pool are amazing. We really loved the overall style of wooden village. The cottages are pretty awesome! Nice and clean with traditional furniture. Local chef and causine he made was perfect. We prepaid for breakfasts. But usually we ended there for a dinner as well. There is a really nice shop with local handcraft at the lobby. My wife bought nice bathrobe and a wooden fan there. We even received a small bag with gifts as a Christmas present from the staff. That was super kind! With usage of Grab app we did not have any trouble going nearly anywhere on the island for a cheap price. Would definitely like to come back one day..

I just stayed here for 5 nights and I’d say at best I got 20hrs sleep over the 5 days, I am off home now to catch up on lost sleep.
The venue cannot do much about the nearby airport or the Mosque, prayers start at 5.30am and go on and on and on but why do they also have to have chickens that start continual screeching from first dawn and keep going for 3hours every day? Why Why Why please explain why its important to deliberately deprive guests of sleep ?
The wi-fi is awful , mozzies galore, the breakfast is ordinary at best, fine if you like eating cold food that should be hot.
I embraced the idea of living in a traditional Malay house but there was no need for the chickens.
The one night We had dinner in the restaurant service was slow and the food was not good at all.
Any positives here, yes the pool is good.
But never again for me.

Kunang- Kunang is a gem of a place. We stayed in Teriang and thought it was beautiful. The room was spacious and decorated traditionally. The air con and fans kept the room cool but we were also able to adjust as needed. It was very quiet, the only ‘issue’ we had was when it rained heavily at night as it was noisy on the tin roof. If you are a light sleeper then I would recommend ear plugs. The outdoor bathroom was beautiful with a huge walk in shower and a big wooden bath tub. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, they went above and beyond to help make our stay special. We stayed for 11 nights and found the breakfast choice to be great, lots of Malaysian food as well as an egg station, waffles, cereal, fruit, cakes etc. I’m vegetarian and didn’t struggle to eat of a morning. The pool was stunning and surrounded by wildlife, we enjoyed watching the birds, dragonflies and monitor lizards. Before visiting we saw a few reviews about noise from the airport. We didn’t find it to be noisy and thought it was the same noise level as when we previously stayed in another hotel in Pantai Cenang.

2 nights in Teriang room. Room was very large with air-conditioning and fans. Wonderful character from yester year with the old timber and shutters. Semi outdoor bathroom was great with timber bath, not sure you would want to have a bath when it's 30 degrees. Mosquito netting around the bed was a great touch and needed. Real good malay breakfast and friendly staff who did their best to make your stay something to remember. Had a massage which was also very good and in pleasant surroundings with wonderful staff. Pool is large and needed in the hot weather it is also very different to any other pool I've been in as it floats within a large Lilly pond. You are away from the busy pantai cenang area so if you are after a place to relax and get some peace and quiet this could be it.

Beautifully quaint & rustic, love the “kampung” (village) experience 🥰 GORGEOUS !

Kunang Kunang means fireflies. Beautiful as its name, the location is a little remote but easily reachable by car. Love its calm and serene atmosphere, especially the elegantly designed rustic kampung (village) houses with modern amenities. A breath of fresh air surrounded by lots of greens. It’s clean and I loved the open concept bathroom of our villa. Very warm hospitality from the reception, the kitchen, right up to the housekeeping, they were all awesome ! Breakfast was local and fairly nice but it would be great if they had replenished quicker when there were more guests. Otherwise, it’s good.

A special mention must be made of reception staff, Rais Rasidi, who was very friendly & helpful, all the way through from reservation right up to check-in/out, kept us in connection before our arrival. This beautiful place is owned by fashion designer Datuk Radzuan Radziwill. Met him, such a warm and friendly gentleman, so nice ! If we ever travel to Langkawi again, will definitely stay here again 😍

I decided to drop by for a coffee with my friend and end up ordering some of the delicious local teatime favourites. This was our second time here since we visited for the same purpose last year. I had probably the best prawn fritters in Langkawi and really enjoyed the quietness and beautiful view of the pool. Since it was not a busy season, the staff spent sometime talking to us and talking about the property. Such a relaxing time and planning to stay there on our next trip.

Authentic Malay kampung feel. The place is a must visit for those who wish to experience ‘traditional kampung’ homes. Waking up with birds chirping is very nice to relax. The originality is there with some modern touches for the amenities in the room. The breakfast is simple but delicious. The cafe space is limited but enouigh for you to enjoy the nasi lemak, malay kuih and other offerings during breakfast. Setting among greeneries brings calming effect. Their lunch set is generous but we took ala carte since the portion is too much for two persons. Rendang Tok ‘Beef’ is a must try. You need to really appreciate the homes to enjoy your stay. It is not perfect but surely a great place to relax.

We had initially booked 5 days at another hotel (Royale Chenang) but were not happy there and moved to this place our last couple of days at Langkawi. It is just a magical place, with beautiful and very old Malaysian wooden villas. Our kids of 6 & 8 loved the floating pool, the breakfast (us grown ups as well), and we all loved the friendly staff and the absolutely lovely buildings & surroundings. It is close to the airport, but it does not disturb as it doesn’t land that many planes per day. You do need a car to live here ( or order in food through Grab when the restaurant is closed) but it is totally worth it. My warmest recommendations if you like genuine & beautiful local culture combined with calmness.
