** BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THE RATES QUOTED AT THE TIME OF BOOKING ** The Lodge itself is located on the slopes of the Mulanje mountains with some very nice views. On the premises, you'll find a restaurant (menu with snacks, fish, meat, food is quite diverse and tasty enough) and a bar; right beside the lodge, there is also...

We had a nice overnight stay and felt it to be reasonable value – a nice relaxing place at the foothills of Mulanje. Highlights: • Large, bright, airy room, well-furnished and comfortable. Fan-cooled. • Great views over the plains from the veranda. • Trailhead in the parking lot for accessing Mt Mulanje. No need to organize guides, porters, etc. •...

The hotel is clean and has a good bar and restaurant, and the breakfasts are ok. The staff, particularly the owner, were helpful and we got upgraded to an executive room which I would recommend as it was significantly more spacious and comfortable. We also were able to get an early breakfast and a packed lunch for the day we...

Positive experiences at Mulanje were our hike on mulanje mountain with an excellent guide named Redson and our round of golf. But our stay at the Kara O'Mula was dissapointing. During day time you could sit at a nice spot in the garden, in the evening there was no atmosphere at all. The swimming pool looked promising on photographs, but...

After a recommendation from another lodge - we decided to try Cara's after our mountain activities on Mulange. The check-in staff were half asleep and after viewing the standard and ironically named executive rooms - we choose the higher priced version. The room was more of less clean but the shower leaked everywhere. We had lunch and dinner at the...

This hotel is situated in Mulanje (not Blantyre) and has a great view. The rooms were quite basic but clean enough. The food and service were fine. The swimming pool was not too appealing but there are guides that will take you up to the waterfalls at the gate.

Having read excellent reviews I was really keen to try out this place. The surroundings were absolutely lovely and very peaceful. The pool was nice but small and only really for dipping in and out. There was also no sun loungers only chairs and benches so difficult to relax/ sunbathe. We stayed in a basic room in the main building...

Stayed here in 2010 and returned in September 2014. Place needs rejuvenating. Tired and nothing changed in 4 years so beginning to feel run down. Food just ok. Don't book half board. B&B and buying a meal works out much cheaper?

The location is perfect and the staff friendly, although they do not really understand English. No wifi,no first aid kit, worst food in Malawi. Fleas and bed bugs. The view makes up for it, but the bathrooms are disgusting. If you are a young European backpacker you won't mind and still think you are getting great value for money. The...

Lodging in Mulanje can be pretty barebones, but the Kara O'Mula is an oasis to Western travelers. I have stayed there on four different occasions for multiple nights, and I recommend it to anyone traveling in the area. The sleeping quarters have showers (and usually hot water) and mosquito nets on the bed. There is toilet paper, sheets, pillowcases. There...

“We stayed in Room 9 in what we referred to as "the treehouse." It was large with a queen and a double bed. Don't expect it to be quiet as the floors and walls aren't well soundproofed. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I personally had no trouble at all!”
