Staff make a real effort to make people feel welcome and comfortable at all times, and the hostel is kept very clean. Common areas are lovely and cosy and the atmosphere is great with an interesting mix of people around. There are also very cute resident cats! The hostel is secure with key-code access and lockers, and cars/bikes can be...

I stayed there in August 8 to 17. 9days. I liked the double room where i loved with my friend. Always friendly administrator her name was Elmira! She were always ready to help. In the kitchen and in yard i met a lot interesting people to talk with. Room and bathroom were clean. I am absolutely satisfied with everything.

So i suppose only the one might be registered while the otherone is pretty hidden. The reference is diveded i two parts - one for the backpackers hostel, the other for the tour i...

Hi, you write that you had a horrible experience with our hostel, but why then you did not move to another hostel and asked for free room every day and stay in our hostel several days, even you booked only one night initially. And now you write so negative comment that such a horrible experience you had. Our hostel is...

They promised us to stay in the doubleroom for one more night but at half past 11a.m.they told us that we had to go to the dorm because the room had been booked by somebody else- annoying! Toilets were horrible-...

Decided to stay here because it was the only hostel in the Lonely Planet guide that responded to my e-mail... my incoming flight was delayed so I didn't arrive until around 10 PM at Almaty Airport. The cab driver had great difficulty finding this hostel... it is tucked down a narrow backstreet in a not very central area. When I...

We stayed at the new location near Dostyk. The hostel is bright and feels more like a hotel. There is an attractive common room and a well-equipped kitchen. The dormitory we occupied was spotlessly clean, but the beds were awful and there was minimal storage space, minimal light, and few outlets. The bathrooms are clean and pleasant, although they do...

So I think the different comments come down to some confusion with the hostel, which actually occupies two very separate properties. If booked online, the address is as stated on tripadvisor and hostelworld. However, there is a second address listed in Lonely Planet (Markova St). I booked online, but was taken to the second address. Quite frankly, the second building...

Almaty Backpackers was a nice, cheap place to stay in Almaty. The kitchen was always full of travelers and there were always people around to share stories and have a beer with. (Which is kind of surprising, because you never see foreigners around town!) We did have a few unusual issues with the hostel owner, but I honestly think that...
