Lovely little Ryokan, good facilities, more modern than we expected, plus they have a cute little dog to welcome you as you come in. Located in a great spot between the main Morioka station and the busy night time cinema & restaurant/bar district. 🇦🇺

We were the only people in the place, which is a shame as it's a lovely place with friendly owners and the cutest dog. We had a huge room with a lounge area and enjoyed the hot spring bath downstairs. The owner doesn't speak much English, but her daughter does. Easy going town, plenty of shops and eateries and easy... More

A delightful ryokan - a taste of old Japan amidst the busy-ness of the modern city of Morioka. The owner and her daughter were welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We particularly liked the rock bath.

Morioka was our first stop for 4 nights on our 2nd trip to beautiful Japan. It's a short 10 minute walk from the train station, though you may want to grab a taxi if you have luggage and to get your bearings. Kumagai is real ryokan with genuine Japanese warmth and welcome. Seiko greeted us with the ever-present and entertaining... More

I stayed at Kumagai Ryokan for on night in the middle of February. The streets of Morioka were cold and icy but this lovely inn was warm and hospitable. It is a short 15 minutes walk from Morioka Station, and just a few minutes walk from the center of town. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. She gave me many... More

We had a delightful 3 day stay here. We had two rooms and both were large and comfortable. The owner and her dog Gunther made us very welcome. It is a family run Ryokan with a bar/restaurant below. All family members were warm and helpful. Despite the restaurant being part of the premises there are no noise problems. We had... More

My partner and I just spent three days at Kumagai Ryokan, a lovely, family owned and operated guesthouse located just a few minutes' walk from both the JR Train Station and the liveliest shopping and dinng area in Morioka. The rooms are upstairs at Kumagai, and are all air-conditioned; they range from compact to quite spacious, so ask what's available... More

I stayed here with two friends as we were taking a test in Morioka and needed reasonably-priced accommodation for one night. This ryokan is perhaps slightly expensive considering that neither dinner nor breakfast are included, but the service we received more than made up for it. The woman in charge was so friendly and made us feel very welcomed. We... More

Nice enough place with a very western feel - the lady manager is a sweet hostess. Unfortunately, her english is rather limited, so don't expect too much help. Price is decent, has its own bath which is quite pleasant, and even has its own restaurant which I did not take advantage of. Also, the manager's pet dog, also the inn... More
