Access from the train station was very convenient with their hotel bus service. The building is located in an odd, almost industrial looking part of town but don't let that ruin it. The interior is well decorated and clean. Calm and elegant. Our room was traditional and well laid out. The only caveat being our bathroom. The shower head was... More

Its the kind of ryokan that pays attention to the smallest details that makes the biggest difference to the guest. Everything was well thought out and the attitude of staff also provided wonderful service. Love the free drinks stocked in the fridge.

This was my favorite hotel I stayed at on my third trip to Japan. I splurged a bit for this one and it did not disappoint. I had a lovely Japanese style room, where I could see lake biwa from the windows. A yukata was provided for me during the stay. The staff was very accommodating and was very kind... More

I booked this hotel for my hubby's celebration. Service was great, staff attentive to your needs, English is basic but never have a problem in communication. We booked a room with private onsen in room, but the other public onsens are equally great. Food was fantastic and of best seasonal quality. We stayed 2 nights and were so reluctant to... More

It was a wonderful experience at the Yumotokan hotel. We enjoyed the spacious corner room (月心亭)which has a nice view of the lake. We appreciated the nice service from Ms. Miyabe very much; she was friendly and always wore a nice smile. She gave us detailed explanations about the hotel when we arrived and served dinner and breakfast for us.... More

I had the pleasure of staying here during my trip in Japan back in May for one night and I can say that it was a wonderful experience. In regards to another reviewer's misunderstanding, Yumotokan is located in a town entirely seperate to Kyoto city on Lake Biwa. A quick look at Google maps would show that, and it is not the hotel's fault if you can't even do simple research on its clearly marked location before booking. The hotel website even has an infographic on approximate train... More

After some confusion following our arrival at Ogoto-onsen station, we worked out that a phone call was required to get the hotel van to collect us from the station. Skype was our saving medium and once we arrived at Yumotokan, our stay was VERY comfortable. The breakfast and dinner provided was plentiful, delicious and excellent. Note the outdoor private onsens... More
