Nice location as everyone has mentioned. Lady at the counter is so patient and kind to share the infomation with us on where to go and what to eat. A little challenging to find the place because of the street name in Japanese and there are many shops houses along the way but once you get it, its easy. Hotel...

We had no idea what to expect from a ryokan. It was a great experience - genuine old Japanese house, tatami, futons (surprisingly great for my back pain), hot tub and wonderful Japanese breakfast. The hostess is an artist in calligraphy, and really made us feel welcomed.

Admittedly the artsy website threw me off initially. But it just seemed to be the right place for us to stay in Nara. And it was. Perfectly. Late to book so we ended up with a top floor, very spacious 10 mat room that suited us perfectly. Able to spread out a bit and not feel cramped after our business...

we arrived on a rather rainy afternoon in Nara and the staff at Ryokan Matsumae kindly lent us umbrellas so we could continue to explore Nara's charming back streets. The room was traditional and very simple, but also very comfortable. We had a sound nights sleep listening to the rain outside and we're delighted with the traditional Japanese breakfast that...

I stayed in this ryokan for one night in October 2016. The hotel is in a very good location which is not far from Kintetsu Nara Station and is near other tourist attractions: Naramachi, Deer Park, Nara Museum and Toudaiji. The atmosphere are very homey, although rooms and facilities are a little bit old. All rooms are Japanese style (with...

Loved how the ryokan is tucked in the back streets of Nara - world heritage area - next to lovely little shops, cute houses and yummy restaurants. It is also conveniently located at a walking distance from the park and the main street. Our host was the loveliest woman, who speaks good English and was extremely helpful. The room was...

I recommend this hotel. It is cheap, service is great and staff are really REALLY nice and helpful. The lady who is there is an expert of calligraphy and her work is just beautiful. We used their public bath and everything is really clean. We didn't take our breakfast there so I wouldn't know how it is. no negative side.

Stayed one night in a tatami room with toilet but no bath. Room was clean. I think we were reasonably demanding customer with 2 small children, but the staff always answered our request and question with a smile and care. Okami (landlady) was especially helpful. We had very nice Japanese style breakfast which was prepared with care. This Ryokan is...

“- use ear plugs - you will get a better sleep, walls are thin; - check curfew hours in advance, and notify when you arrive - this is not some Hilton or Hyatt; - order Japanese meal - it will be much better than Western; - ask staff NICELY to help lift your suitcase to your room and back.”
