The approach to this stylish, recently-built hotel is along a windy driveway from off a windy road 30 minutes southeast of Toba on the hotel's shuttle bus. As we weaved our way down the hill, at one point there is a broad sweep of the hotel perched atop a rock face overlooking the ocean, and immediately I felt the effects...

If you plan to visit and stay near Toba you can't do better than this exclusive hotel. From the time you arrive you can feel the quality, the staff are friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable of the local area. We stayed in a sea view room which has fantastic views and on our first morning we saw Ama diving for...

Sunrise is a must see if weather is good! Given he price you can imagine the wonderful service and facilities in this onsen hotel is at the top level, and it won't disappoint you. Relatively speaking the dinner is not as surprise as I expected but still very good.

Oyado is so difficult to book because it is perpetually full over weekends. Weekday bookings are somewhat easier. The hotel is splendidly isolated on a headland surrounded by 180 degrees of sea and scrubland behind it. It is 30 minutes by shuttle bus or around 5500 yen by taxi away from Toba station, which is the terminus for most kintetsu...

The setting is truly spectacular. Don't forget to go up to the top view terrace to admire the rugged Ise coastline. The onsen water quality is very natural. The architecture is amazing. Please note the special tatami: this very fine texture seems to be Okinawa style. You do have to get up early for the sunrise view. The only thing...

Excellent ryokan. The best! Breathtaking view and sound of the Pacific Ocean while you bath. The dinner is also excellent. Make sure you bring your camera with you when you come to this ryokan because the view is truly spectacular. We are here with 9 other good friends. It feels like you have the whole ryokan to yourselves as there...

Wonderfully relaxing, we had planned to tour various historic sites in the area but instead never left the hotel. Perfect place to recover from the trans pacific flight. Dinner on both nights was world class, imaginative and creatively presented. Individual onsen bath on the private terraces overlooking the ocean was sublime. Staff were attentive.

A modern interpretation of Japanese traditional hospitality at its best. It worth the detour. The location facing the sea is relaxing and the hot bath on the terrace while contemplating the horizon is inspiring. The food is also excellent with the freshest seafood that Ise region can offer. The only "minus" would be that dinner is served in a dining...

Everything we were hoping for in a place to stay for our 10th anniversary was met. The place is wonderfully secluded, and you have a feeling of complete privacy. The only time we saw other patrons was when we were dining, and when we visited the "library" to grab a CD for the player in the room or for a...

Oyado The Earth is an astoundingly beautiful, very luxurious ryokan located on a hot springs, right at the edge of the sea, about 20 minutes drive from Toba. All rooms are suites with a separate sleeping and sitting areas plus stunning ocean views; one room is available with a bed instead of a futon. Our room had both an indoor...
