Rent a japanese room with garden view. The public space like toilets and bathrooms were clean. They are basically a house with rooms so its very cozy and homey, and also spacey. like how the owner will warm bathwater for public use like how you see japan houses do in movies.you can use all kitchen utensils and not need to clean it. The house was Nicely decorated. I rent yukata and breakfast and they were good! Its like how you see breakfast for normal household. WhAt struck me the most abt this place is the service from the owners! Both were nice, warm, friendly, and super helpful. On our arrival, they greet us, show us around the house, give us map and explain to us reccomended restaurant, buses route and tourist best spot. Oh and also they have excellent amenities from hairdrier, facial cotton, cottonbud, shampoo condi etc. And lastly the owner even took us by car to the bus station! I have excellent stay here, it feels like living in japan home rather than guesthouse.

Stay Nikko is conveniently located only about 10 mins walk from Tobu-Nikko station and less than 5 mins walk to the main street. The guesthouse was very responsive as they emailed us with clear instructions on the route from the station, inquired if we needed any special needs and replied to our queries regarding our stay soon after we made the reservation. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owners, Ken & P who gave us a very thorough briefing of the area; places to visit, the buses and routes to take and a list of dinning places as most restaurants close early in Nikko. We booked the villa for 2 nights and it’s newly built with modern facilities such as kitchenette, dining and a loft upstairs that is very spacious and can infact sleep 4 pax. The only inconvenience to us, elderly folks, was that the toilet and all amenities were downstairs whilst the bedroom was one level up. However this was more than compensated by the nice ambiance, the firm and comfortable bed and the nice huge chair with a view overlooking the river. WiFi is good. Although our reservation is without breakfast, the owners were most accommodating and allowed us to order breakfast. The Japanese breakfast was sumptuous and of good value. The owners speak fluent English, Japanese and Thai. They were extremely helpful with any queries and even drove us to the train station despite their busy schedule.

My husband and I stayed here for four nights and couldn’t have been happier. The room was nice and cozy with a view to the garden (we stayed in the Niwa room). The entire guest house was private and quiet with lots of birds singing in the morning as well as a number of them that we could see in the garden in the morning. However the best thing about this place is the couple who run it and also the food that they serve for breakfast. They could not have been friendlier or more welcoming and gave us quite a few recommendations about things to do and places to eat dinner or lunch. Although I am a creature of habit with my usual western breakfast, I could not have been more delighted with the traditional Japanese breakfast they served each morning, which varied a little bit from day to day, and which was incredibly delicious. There was never a problem with sharing the restroom facilities which are sufficient and broken up into different rooms so running into other people was not a problem. They are very clean. They also have a big soaking bath which we did not take advantage of. P and K (the nicknames of the couple) were very helpful with getting us updated train information and keeping us abreast of typhoon related problems before we arrived. On the day we left it was raining and they gave us a ride down to the train station. They had also offered to pick us up although we decided that wasn’t necessary. Another one of the great features of this guest house is its proximity to the train station. Once you get closer towards the temples there is more problem with traffic and it’s great to be able to walk to or from the Guest House to the train station if you need to. It’s not very far at all. All in all we can’t recommend this place enough. It seems a great entry into Japanese hospitality and culture!

Hosts in this sort of minshuku were amazing. They welcomed us with a cold tea, allowed us to check in early, gave us lots of info & suggestions of visits and places to eat (that we were so happy we followed), kept our luggage and even gave us a ride to the train station! ! Such nice people. Breakfast was delicious too! Japanese room facing the garden was so nice and futon so comfortable. And the whole decoration in the house is so cute with so many details to make you feel at home. Ofuro was great after so much walking. Will be recommending this place for sure and I hope we can come back if we go back to Nikko. Doomo arigato gozaimasu. Subarashikatta desu. :)
