It is a very stylish hotel with a lot of history. We booked the room complete with dinner and breakfast. The dinner was an excellent 5-course dinner. We were served very well. The room is large and stylish and located in the Japanese style building adjacent to the main building with view towards the river. The only drawback we can... More

best thing about this hotel is location. It seems seems very tired. Unlikely it has changed much since all the famous people stayed there. Room is clean and fairly quiet. Amenities are minimal. Service is ok. Breakfast is ordinary. Dinner mediocre and very very overpriced.

Everything is in the title... This hotel hasn't had a renovation done in a very long time, the hallways are almost "The Shinning" spooky, not so clean, humid room, small bathroom, bad amenities. Absolutely not worth the USD400 x night

In some ways this hotel is like a best Western motel. And otherwise the service is extremely nice and the lobby and dining rooms are very pleasant to sit in and eat at. Our room has charm and looks like a Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration but the bathroom is decaying and the red rug is kind of gross. Still, there... More

After a two hour train ride from Tokyo we arrived in Nikko and this lovely hotel. The hotel shuttle bus met the train and took us up to the hotel. We were also met the older gentleman who took our luggage and made sure we were checked in quickly. The hotel is located on a hillside and across the river... More

My wife and I travelled here in April 2016. We were greeted by an elderly gentleman who ushered us inside and helped us check in early. My wife was feeling a little under the weather - when the staff learned this, they organised to give her some medicine, and showed genuine care about her condition, offering to take her to... More

Hotel is very friendly and hospitable providing lovely rooms and Hotel services. We found the Bar, hidden below the staircase, to have an astonishing array of drinks to satisfy anyone. Dining in the Hotel is Silver Service and mainly western. Hotel has photos of some of their most important guests over the years. Hotel has been around for over 140... More

With photos of famous guest from around the world adorning the walls, an ideal mountain top location, and a fabulous French-Japanese restaurant, this hotel is a great place for a couples get-away, a sightseeing base camp, or a family vacation. While the hotel furnishings are dated, this is part of the charm that sweeps you back in time at this... More

Good location, extended obviously several times, trying to mantain the original style. Our room was in an annexe, so not so stylish. But the common rooms are charming, with a lot of room to relax and sip some tea (gratis) in the evening. Very attentive doorman, very beautifully served and extensive English breakfast. Dinner is quite expensive. Offer patisseries AM/... More
