#2 of 51 Speciality lodging in Nikko
"VERY COSY". We opened FU-SHA in September, 2007. We wanted to show people from all over the WORLD the beauty, both natural and man made that Nikko offers. Since our home is directly across the street from the cottage, we are able to provide assistance when you need it during your stay at the cottage. This private Japanese style cottage has a small sitting room, a small kitchen, a large modern bathroom and can sleep up to 5 people. The rooms are Japanese style rooms with tatami mats and divided by fusuma(sliding doors). Japanese futons are laid on the tatami mats and they are very comfortable to sleep on. There are a microwave oven, a toaster, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, an electric pot and tableware in the kitchen. The bathroom has a big bathtub and a shower. In addition, there is an amazing Japanese high-tech toilet. The cottage has a high speed internet( wireless). My ancestors came to Nikko approximately 130 years ago and we have been living here ever since. Therefor we have all the information on Nikko you would like to know and we are happy to share that with you. We will happily provide a pick up from Nikko station. The house is ideal for two people but can accommodate more if necessary. The owner is wonderful. She is very kind and thoughtful and picked us up from the station, took us to cafes for our evening meal and provided nice savoury-filled rolls, croissants, yogurt and fruit for breakfast. The house is simple and functional and in the traditional style (with lots of sliding doors and paper screens). The kitchen is well equipped (fridge, microwave, kettle and washing machine etc.) The bathroom was great with a huge room for the shower, which was nice. Sleeping is on a thick futon (ie no mattress) and the pillows are traditional (very firm) and take a little getting used to. The eating area is also traditional and is difficult if you cannot kneel easily (although there are two chairs). There are also tea/coffee-making facilities (ie nice Japanese tea and coffee bags). There is no TV or security safe. There is a reverse cycle Air Con unit and electric heaters to keep the living area nice and warm.

We selected Nikko Cottage Fu-Sha for our recent stay in Nikko based on Trip Advisor reviews, and it was the perfect choice for us. The cottage is so comfortable, immaculately clean, charmingly furnished and decorated, with a spacious bathroom and small kitchen. Sleeping was Japanese style, on futons with lovely linens. The location was absolutely perfect, in a residential neighborhood by the river. It’s just a 10 minute walk to the World Heritage Site shrine and temple complex and museum in Nikko National Park, and a 5 minute walk through woodlands along the river to the Kanman-ga-Fuchi Abyss. Also easy walking to shops and restaurants on the main road, to the botanical garden and to the Tamozawa Imperial Villa, as well as to the local bus stop for going to Lake Chuzenji and beyond. The kindness and offers of help from Yoshiko, the property owner and host, is beyond compare. We received a very welcoming email message from her and her husband after we booked with an offer to pick us up from the train, and we were in communication close to our stay when we knew our time of arrival. Yoshiko picked us up from the train station when we arrived, took us back to the station when we left three days later, recommended restaurants for dinner and offered repeatedly to drive us to and from them (we declined, but appreciated such care and thoughtfulness), cleaned and changed linens every day, and provided yogurt, juices, fresh fruits and bread for breakfast every day. We can’t say enough about what a wonderful host she is and how welcome she made us feel. Just a note about Nikko...many restaurants and cafes close in the late afternoon, and so it was a bit of a challenge to find a place to have a cup of coffee or tea and a pastry after 4 or 5 pm. Restaurants often reopen at 6 or 6:30 pm for dinner, but may close by 8:30 or 9, and it’s important to check that a selected restaurant is open on the day you choose to go.

The home host, Yoshiko, is a lovely person and she kindly offered to pick us up from the train station since she was free. We would have taken the bus which is close by (bus stop #9). There is also a Buddhist shrine 5mins away which is one of the main highlights of Nikko and the main shinto shrine is 10mins away. The whole home is very clean and traditional japanese styling. Very comfortable japanese bedding and quiet neighborhood. Would stay here again in the future.

We were lucky enough to find this place as a backup when we had a problem with our original lodging and had to find a last minute place to stay for our second night. Yoshiko was kind enough to accept us last minute, pull the place together for us, and still provide us with breakfast when we got in contact with her at 5 pm. She picked us up where we were and then dropped us off at the train station the next morning. The house is very cute, clean, and comfortable. The walk from the house toward town is very beautiful. We really appreciate all the help and the great night’s sleep!

This was the first place we stayed @ in Japan and really enjoyed it. The host Yoshiko was very helpful and provided good honest information about what to see etc. Yoshiko also took the time to drive us to the bus station to get a bus pass. She also drove us to the rail station when we left. Would not hesitate in recommending here for a stay in the area.
