Stayed in Japanese Western room good for 4 pax. The hotel provides excellent hospitality. All staff are very polite and friendly. Parking is free but with about 15 lots. Location is not too far from Yumoto train station. But hotel is located on a slope, not convenient for elderly to walk. Hotel has reasonable sized indoor and outdoor hot spring. Dinner and breakfast is good. Dinner Japanese and western fusion set meal. Breakfast is buffet.

I was more than a little confused when it came to booking a hotel in Hakone. The area is large and I wasn't sure which part we should be in. I then decided, as we were only staying a few days, close to the station would be where we would want to be. I started going through Google Earth and found this little gem of a hotel. The price was right and when I emailed the hotel directly for a price, received a very clear and concise immediate response from Ken. When we arrived at the station, we were told about a shuttle bus which would take us to the hotel for 100 yen each. We were very quickly dropped off and arrived at the hotel. We walked in and were met by Ken himself, Japanese born but obviously American educated. He knew me by name (I don't think they get a lot of Westerners there) and very quickly checked us in.

We stayed in a standard Western room. It was of good size, basic furniture but very comfortable and clean. It was a little hot in the room and although there was a fan, it wasn't doing much, so we just opened the window. Being April it was cool outside and within no time the room was at a perfect temperature.

The JR Hakoneyumoto station is only a 10 minute walk and from there you can do the entire Hakone area on a loop. I couldn't have picked a better location.

The area around doesn't have much but if you are hungry and don't mind a walk up a very steep hill, try Go Go Wimpy, which is the coffee shop for the Toy Museum, not far from the station. The English speaking chef makes the best burger.

I didn't try the hotel food or the onsen (no one wants to see my body naked) but I understand from others we spoke to that it is wonderful.

There is wired internet in the lobby if you bring your own laptop.

We arrived from the skyscrapers of Tokyo and this was very different. Most of the guests were Japanese. The room was clean but the decor was a little tired. We had a bedroom and a lounge with a table and tatami mats- and a wooden bath. Our rate included breakfast and dinner. The dinner was spectacular, course after course. (at least 7) there was a personal menu printed with our name on it, which I hope to get translated. Breakfast was the best spread I have seen anywhere, both Japanese and European- dimsum, tempura, sashimi, barbecued fish trolley as well as all the western stuff- and other things too numerous to mention. They provide "loungewear" (cotton pyjamas, Yukata, gold waistcoat thing and slippers) which they tell you you can wear within the hotel. We didn't but most of the Japanese guests did and we wish we had. It would have added to the experience but we were a little unsure of what was expected
It was an easy walk to the station without luggage but a taxi would be better for anything bigger than overnight cases.
So a great contrast with the international hotels in Tokyo and a chef who takes great pride in his job with spectacular results. I felt we had an authentic Japanese experience and would thoroughly recommend

This was a great hotel, up a small incline in Hakone-Yumoto. Our bedroom was western and large but the hotel had a very Japanese atmosphere and we were the only westerners staying there.
The meals were excellent. Dinner took an hour and a half and consisted of 8 courses including excellent shashimi - each one an art object. Breakfast was a very good buffet - both Japanese and western.
The hotel had a lovely onsen bath, actually a rotenburo as it was outside.
Overall a real delight although I was disappointed by Hakone. it wasn't as wonderful as guide books make out.

Our stay here was absolutely amazing, and the staff were so helpful. They went far above and beyond the level of customer service we would expect from a hotel.

From the very moment you step into the hotel, the staff greet you and provide you with a warm towel and a nice plum vinegar drink to relax. When you check in, they let you choose the type of body wash/shampoo/etc you would like for your stay. The room was great - roomy, comfy, clean, excellent faciltiies, and they even left us 2 types of complimentary desserts. A nice sakura jello-type dessert and a matcha baked good. It was a very nice impression as one of the first things you see when you enter your room and look around.

The dinner was fantastic, multiple courses and great staff. Special shout-out to "Kyo", who was the son of owners of the hotel. He was the only staff who spoke English during our dinner, and he was extremely friendly. He explained to us what each course was, and chatted with us a bit during our dinner. It was nice learning about him and sharing with him our background and where we are from. He seemed like a very humble individual, even as the son of the owners of the hotel. Very passionate about his work and providing a superb experience to customers.

The onsen was great as well. Indoor and outdoor onsens, lockers provided, shampoo/body wash, etc. Very clean, enjoyable, and relaxing.

When we checked out, the hotel let us keep our luggage there until it was time to take our Odayku Romancecar to Tokyo. We headed off to Owadakuni which turned out to be an absolute weather nightmare. Insane rain and wind, we were completely soaked - all of our clothes, even the inside of our backpacks (it was a death valley for umbrellas). When we got back to the hotel, we were impressed with the staff. They greeted us, gave us another plum drink, warm towels, dry towels, and provided us with a place to get changed. They let us take our luggage and sit on the couch while we got changed and re-organized our suitcases. When we were done, they took back our luggage again for a couple hours while we wanted to explore Hakone more. The staff even provided us with 2 large umbrellas after she noticed my tattered, metal-mangled umbrella that I left outside of the hotel to dry. She even offered to let us keep the umbrellas for the walk back to the train station. However, we declined and opted to take a short cab ride back to the station. They called us a cab which arrived within minutes.

Overall, an amazing experience with brilliant customer service from every staff member. Some pro's and cons to summarize:

Pros:
-Relaxing onsen
-Comfy room
-Clean facilities and room
-Excellent dinner and lunch buffet
-Superb staff. Really really superb.

Cons:
-Hotel was located on top of a steep hill. Bit of a hike to get there.

We got the Superior Room with Tenbo- the most expensive room (of 3) in the hotel. The "Jacuzzi" bath had round nozzles and was too small for two people. The shower had an annoying swivel temperature control system- hard to get a temperature that you like- unlike the communal area with normal temperature control which was much better. They were mean with towel supply- you have to bring your room towels to the communal area- you get only two each- other hotel give you lots and lots of full size at multiple locations. They had privacy toilette which was so small that it was totally useless for it purpose- can't wrap that around me. The bed was not that comfortable. The food was a good mix of Western and Japanese- mostly delicious. Dinner is not too small- small dishes of food but OK overall. They had a piano for dinner with limited request but the pianist was often taking a break. Breakfast is reasonably good though its nearly an all cold buffet but not fantastic by western standards. Its nice that's neither meal is Japanese seafood overload. Its nice that it reasonably accessible to Hakone such as shopping. Staff don't lead to your room- I think that's slightly bad- though it best they don't actual enter the room proper. You have Internet access from a public laptop. But overall just not that good for the money- hotel is overrated by Japanese.

I decided to go to Hakone to get away from the stress of work and arranged the hotel booking at a very last minute. Got a room for one person including breakfast at JPY10,000 through Rakuten Travel (if you can manage to read some Japanese, the Japanese website offers better rate than the English site), which is in fact excellent value for a modern on-sen hotel.

I got a Western room with all the basic amenities. Their two outdoor on-sens are well decorated, offering very tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.

The breakfast offers a lot of choice including Japanese and Western style. The location is good - only a few min from the rail station and there is a bus station close to the hotel. It is always a pleasure taking a walk around small on-sen resort like Yumoto anyway.

We stayed two nights at this hotel. The property is located 10 mins walk from the train station and away from the main road. There is a bus station nearby for all of the main tourist routes.

Checkin and check out was very efficient. We stayed in a non-smoking room and each of us was provided with a bag of toiletries. The room size was generous and large enough to accommodate 5 people.

The hotel also provided daily Japanese buffet breakfast and five-course dinner, we were surprised by the quality of food and service and it was outstanding. (The menu for dinner changes everyday). There was an onsen onsite (outdoor and indoor), it was clean comfortable and not overcrowded.

We enjoyed our two-night stay at this hotel however you will need to book with them directly or thru Japanese websites as they don't sell directly to western booking domians.

The location was "on the steep, hilly and winding road", and walking from train station could be an excercise for elders. We drove, and it was also a bit challenging as narrow passes around the hotel were rather hard to navigate through...

In any case, my family arrived on Saturday afternoon, and check-in was quite smooth. They had some special "house welcome drink", and at the time, it was Kiwi flavored juice. It was nice.

Hot spring was of good size, and very clean. Amenities were well equipped, and there were free massage chair outside. The hotel is completely "non-smoking", which suited my family well.

Dinner and Breakfast were both good. More than plenty, especially breakfast buffet was a treat.

Due to the weather (as we visited during rain season), we did not have much chance to wonder around to nearby shops or cafes, but Hakone is a cute looking town. And I would really hope that I can come back to this hotel next time again.

My daughter and I stayed one night with the "Ladies Plan." The plan included a 60 minute massage (you can select body or feet), 1200 check out (regularly 1100), and they gave us a little box of incense when we checked out. The staff were very polite and the rooms were clean. I liked the outfits that were provided as "room wear." You can wear them around the hotel, even when you go to the restaurant. There were little cupcakes in the room and some chilled jello in the fridge for snacks. The massage was so relaxing.
The DINNER!!! Now that was awesome!! We selected the Japanese/Western course and it started off with beautifully arranged appetizers, then followed by an array of delicate and delicious foods on beautiful dishes. The presentation of each dish was awesome. They brought a dessert tray around where you can select what you'd like to have. The breakfast was a buffet with endless choices from fish to bacon with a made to order eggs.
The hot spring baths were relaxing and it also had a sauna. The changing area included soaps, shampoo, face cleanser, toner, moisturizer, brushes, cotton, and toothbrushes. You really don't need to bring anything with you. If I ever go back to Hakone I will definitely stay at this hotel.
It's close to the Hakone-Yumoto Train Station. There is a shuttle bus that takes you up there for 100 yen. You need to tell the driver the name of your hotel and he will announce the hotel before he makes the stop.l This hotel is the first stop. When you get off, you cross the road and there is a sign on the corner. Just start walking down hill on the road and it's on the right side. After we checked out, we walked to the train station because it was all down hill. It took about 10 mins from the hotel.
I really recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in Hakone!!
