Amazing place with friendly staff, onsen and a breakfast to die for. We would definitely come back again when we are in Japan.

They also provide a shuttle service to Gora station, making this place a convenient one, location wise as well.

Thank you for your hospitality

This hotel is in a great location in the mountains, near hot water rivers. It has an amazing outdoor onsen (and indoor) with a forest view. We had a superior japanese room, it was huge. The hotel was quiet. You can get a taxi from Kowakudani station and have your buggage sent to the hotel from hakone yumoto station. The staff were so caring. My mum thought she had lost her phone - the staff rang the train companies, the train station, the taxi company for us. I am so grateful. There is a family mart and 7-eleven nearby in case you spend too much time in the onsen and the restaurants close at 9ish. I wish we had stayed in the hotel longer. I would recommend looking at the webcam on hakone tourism website on your phone so that you know if you can see Mt Fuji from Lake Ashi or the ropeway. Although there were no clouds, we could see mount fuji at the sunset only not during the day.

This "ryokan" hotel is a separate part of the Kowakien Hotel nearby and lies along a small road in a parklike, wooded area. The building is beautiful, the architecture interesting. The rooms are pretty basic, but the Japanese style rooms have very interesting design details. Our room did not have its own shower. The onsen (Japanese hot bath) is small, but very nice. The outdoor bath offers a view to the forest.
This smallish ryokan has no restaurant. The breakfast was a huge disappointment; coffee from a machine and a variety of croissants and other sweet, white breads - and nothing else! There is apparently no kitchen so there is no menu, no eggs, no milk, no fruit, nothing, except for the sweet breads and coffee.
The staff was helpful, they spoke no English, but were very kind. Overall impression pretty good - but go get breakfast foods from the nearby Family Mart.

Location: Pretty centrally located (it was within walking distance to the main bus stops). BUT difficult to get to as you have to go up and down a fairly steep slope to get to the nearest main road. Nightmare to handle with heavy luggage. There is an easier walking route that takes you to the other side of the hill but it's a longer walk.
Service: Very friendly front desk staff who spoke basic English and very helpful.
Rooms: Rooms were great; modern yet with a traditional flair. Beds were very comfortable and we had a corner rooms so had a great view of the surrounding hills and gardens. The rooms all came with private toilet and a washbasin.
To take a bath however you needed to use the communal hot bath downstairs. Due to low occupancy, I had the whole place to myself every time over my 4 day stay. There are also options to use a private onsen but you need to make bookings at the reception on the day.
Property: Beautifully landscaped gardens, well maintained and very clean.
The included breakfast is very basic. Danishes, croissants, and a coffee machine which somehow also dispenses a very tasty beef consomme. There is no restaurant on-site.
Tips: If you have a lot of baggage, would advise that you take a taxi from the train station. The public buses are not made to accommodate luggage; they're basically commuter buses and mostly full.

Very nice and big room, decent private and public onsen. Breakfast wasn't that good, mostly sweet stuff. Close to a bus stop. Good starting point for exploring the Hakone region. Not much to do around the place after dark.

First, location location location! It's so close to bus station and Kowakien train station. You can enjoy a quiet and soothing 10min walk in the mountain to the train station. Keep in mind that Kowakien is a very hilly area so the hotel is basically a secluded paradise without any difficulty to get to. You can hike or jog in the morning along the mountain trails and enjoy the unique beauty of hakone. Kowakien is in the middle of all the hot rivers so you will see steam coming out from waterfalls everywhere! And again there is very few people so the mountain feels like private to you! Also there is a huge Japanese garden right in front of the hotel with flowers and nice trees. Don't forget to have a private garden experience since no one else goes there!

Second the room is so big and hotel is so nice. I asked for a single room and I found a very spacious Japanese style room! This is a small hotel with a total of less than 15 rooms. So it is very private. And at the same time it is very big in area. It almost felt like staying in a very nice house that belongs to someone extremely rich and sophisticated. The hotel is nicely decorated, modern and also well equipped with many bathrooms, a very nice Kowakien onsen place. The outdoor onsen is so nice! Especially when it was nasty and rainy outside, and you get to enjoy some relaxing private (again because the hotel has so few guests) down time in a warm, mineral-rich onsen.

Also the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They handle everything politely and elegantly.

The room has no shower. But who cares, you just go to the onsen and take the shower there!

Overall, what a true vacation paradise!

A small beautiful hotel with good hotspring-system high on the Kowakien mountain nearby Hakone.
The hotel is good to reach by Bus, mountain-train is 10 walking minutes away, the rooms are ok, a bit old, but clean. If u book a tripple room, the third person will sleep on a ground mattress, which was not comfortable... but in total we liked this hotel.

Negatives: no English speaking staff, last bus is about 20:00... at night u can only sleep or spend time at the room. In the area of the hotel there is nothing to do even in the town of Hakone. Finding western food was almost nit possible.

Rooms are nice. Breakfast is just bread and coffee, nothing ells, not even tea !!
Rooms were nice and comfortable.
Onsen was fine.
Staff were helpful, but really no idea why they put breakfast in their advertisements, since all you get is a bread and coffee.
Tea is NOT available.
OVERPRICED.

I stayed here in November with two friends for two nights. It was quite easy to get to - around 25 mins on a bus and then the bus stop is around a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel was quite large, plenty of space for 3 of us. It felt a little eerie and deserted - a bit like a 1970s sci-fi movie but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Breakfast wasn't really up to much - just some pastries and a coffee machine. Staff were all very helpful and the onsens were cool. It's also only a 10 minute walk to Yunessun which is a really cool/weird onsen water park.

Our room had a privat bathroom with shower and toilet. I think that's the case with all rooms, I didn't see shared bathrooms on the floors.
