Stayed here for 2 nights with our family of 3. The private onsen is amazing and hot, but you can add cold water as desired. The traditional Japanese breakfast is fantastic. Only downside is that the bus service ends before 6pm so we had to get a cab in Gora to get home from dinner out. Would definitely return!

My family (2 adults and 2 children) stayed at Sengokuhara Shinanoki Ichinoyu for 2 nights and wished our stay was longer! The hotel has all one could wish for, it is beautifully furnished. The hotel is wonderfully spacious and the bedrooms are not only beautifully decorated in Japanese style but were also super comfortable. The restaurant also serves child meals...

The hotel is located in a quiet area, relatively convenient with buses going to Odawara/Hakoneyumoto station and Togendai (Lake Ashi). However, there isn't much to do in the area in the evenings, just a 7-11 about 5 minutes away. I found that Shinanoki was quite commercialised, not really a traditional ryokan. Rooms are clean and spacious with a western touch....

My 2nd time visiting peaceful Hakone. Great random pick. Love this place! My friend booked this place because of the private onsen attached to the room. Japan Tourism Bureau is working on allowing foreigners with tattoos to be welcomed and freely enter public onsens without any issues. Until that happens my friend and I will have to enjoy a private...

Loved my stay at this modern ryokan. The beds were very comfortable, and there was a private hot spring bath in our balcony, which we used every morning and night. There is also a shared bath that guests do not need to pay extra for. We tried that too. The water was wonderful and hot and lovely to soak and...

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at this modern ryokan. The room was nice. Our private bath was consistently heated all day and all night. The Japanese beds were a dream to sleep in- most comfortable beds we experienced in Japan. We opted for room and board. The dinner and breakfast were different everyday. They were set meals and...

Been here thrice since 2009. Love the atmosphere and the private onsen in the room. I tried rooms in both annex and main building. Clean and very spacious room, enough to fit 3-4 people. Breakfast was lovely complete with miso soup. Checking in and out was a breeze...

We booked our stay looking for a traditional Japanese experience - which is what we got! The room was spacious and comfortable, 2 double beds (mattresses on the floor), a dining area and sofa area and our private hot spring open air bath! The room was quiet and comfortable and the privacy of having our own open air bath was...

The dinner and breakfast were delicious (be prepared that the breakfast is a traditional Japanese one, so ours was fish-heavy). The private onsen on our balcony was spectacular. Having that made up for the rain blocking the view of Mt. Fuji. Our stay was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I would highly recommend to anyone.

It's my first time in Japan, and definitely first time in Hakone. My first worry was that it would be inaccessible. But thankfully Hakone is well-connected by multiple bus lines. If you are staying in Hakone, would highly recommend the unlimited bus pass. On to the ryokan. We (my friend and I) got a room without the private onsen. While...
