My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Our villa was spacious and we appreciated the private onsen bath as well as the architecture. The common outdoor onsen was delightful. With advance notice they accommodated my vegetarian diet and everything was presented beautifully, both dinner and breakfast. The garden is lovely to stroll through. We found everything to be spotless. It’s location is excellent and close to the excellent outdoor Hakone sculpture museum!

Our stay here was unbelievable! From the moment we were greeted by a staff member in the parking lot, until we were walked out to our waiting taxi, everything was amazing!
We walked here from the train station (a very short walk) but were not quite sure we were in the right place. Before we could even question that, a waiting staff member ran over to greet us.
After we checked in we were given a tour of the ryokan and property. It is lovely!
We had a bath in our room, which was nice.
This ryokan gave us the authentic experience we were looking for with the tatami mat rooms, futons, yukatas and the meals.
Time is taken preparing the meals and dinner and breakfast were probably the most beautiful meals we have eaten. They were also delicious! It was helpful that an English menu accompanied our dinner.
All of the staff we interacted with were friendly, courteous and hospitable.
In my opinion, this property undersells itself online and the descriptions do not adequately describe the whole experience. It was amazing!

We had a wonderful stay at Gora Kansuiro. From the outset the team were very friendly and welcoming. It was a traditional Japanese room beautifully laid out and meticulously clean. The hotel is in gardens not perfectly manicured rather natural and definitely supporting being connected to nature.

The highlight were our meals. 9 course dinner and multiple courses for breakfast. Kaho our lovely hostess was kind, smiley and guided us through our amazingly intricate omakase style meal. The food was fresh and tasty (I’m sure could compete with the Michelin restaurants in Tokyo).

It was a pleasure to stay in such an authentic Japanese ryokan style guesthouse and experience the amazing hospitality of the team at Gora Kansuiro. Highly recommend a visit.

Dear Mr./Ms. Gok R. Thank you very much for your kind words and high evaluation. Thank you very much. We are very happy to hear that you were satisfied with our stay. The house is an old Japanese house and used to be a villa of a conglomerate. The garden is a garden where you can feel the nature. The chirping of birds sometimes awakens you in the morning. We will make every effort to create a "wonderful" space for your next visit and help you create memories of your trip, and to provide you with services that will impress and satisfy you. gora kansuiro.. terrible. no other way to put it. would i be so critical if i had paid $100? maybe not. but for 800!!!!!! i know it is ryokan, and not a full scale hotel, but what i arrived it was SO OLD and SO rundown. and DIRTY. the walls and bathroom tiles were stained. hallways smelled like smoke. the room where they served dinner felt like a cafeteria. the brightest overhead lighting I've even seen. the property was so unkept. old hoses and water buckets lying around. it was disgusting. i left 3 hours earlier than planned the next morning. couldn't wait to leave.

You choose Gora Kansuiro for the experience of living in a traditional Ryokan. History is palpable in this beautiful century old onsen hotel, immersed in a wonderful, peaceful garden. The food is truly outstanding, and so is the service of very welcoming staff. We had an unforgettable stay which will last in our memories. Facilities are a bit dated and some adapting is needed, but that's part of the experience and that's exactly what we were looking for.

I can't believe there are poor reviews about this place. It was wonderful! From the ease of arrival, to the incredible service, the amazing hot spring in our room to the 5 star dinner and breakfast. I can highly recommend this place, along with the great train ride to get there. Amazing views and peaceful serenity. Thank you so much for having us, it was such a different experience to the craziness of Tokyo.

Just a side note, we arrived late and left early(ish) the next day. So we didn't get the chance to experience the train up the mountain along with the cable car as well and that looked amazing. So, maybe allow some extra time for that if you can :)

Traditional ryokan, located 3 minutes to GORA train station. Large room, bathroom with thermal hot water. Fine and copious traditional dinner served in the room. Do not confuse with another Kansuiro located at Hakone Yumoto.

It's difficult to review this Ryokan because we didn't enjoy the experience, so have a bias view of our stay here. The Ryokan is on the main road and we took the bus from the station which was easy enough, with the name and address written down (via the tourist office in the station).

We paid a lot of money for a large suite with a few rooms and outdoor garden with a private onsen. Be aware that all the public onsen are segregated for men and women.

The rooms were exactly as you would expect. Very sparse and simple with traditional old fixtures and fittings, even down to the oldest TV I have seen in a long time. Good enough for watching the sumo if it's on! (If it is, make the effort to go and see it live - excellent experience). The communal areas were all very old, and being so you could see the owners are obviously reluctant to change or update anything, which would of course spoil the character.

Dinner was served precisely on time, as you would expect, but because there was noone to explain anything, and the food is completely unusual to a westerner, it's easy to feel uncomfortable about what you're eating. And unsure about what you are meant to do, or not to do. The lady looking after us spoke no English. Not her fault but when everything is so unusual it would be helpful to receive some guidance.

Outside the room was a private japanese garden with a small onsen. Though this was a highlight, be warned that the water is very hot, and I doubt anyone who isn't used to it will stay in for longer than ten minutes at a time.

The Ryokan is also on the road to Hakone, and not as far as Hakone iteself.

Overall, we didn't enjoy the stay here and thought it was overpriced for the experience. You may totally love it though so don't take my word that you won't. If I were to book a Ryokan again, however, I would book further in advance and have more choice of which one to choose, which wouldn't be this one. It gets three out of five because a Ryokan is an experience, not just a hotel, and I have no idea how it really compares to the alternatives. If we went back, we would take a day trip to Hakone from Tokyo rather than staying overnight.

If you do stay here, it's worth having a walk by the river and also visiting the local town outside the station as you will be the only western tourists there.

The rates are based per person per night NOT per room per night because it comes with traditional Kaiseki meal for breakfast & dinner. You need to decide if you want a room with a shared bathroom or private bath. The rooms with shared bath rooms are in the main building and have separate but shared toilets for men & women. The Villas are individual buildings with their own toilets & have hot spring baths inside the rooms. Prior to booking the room I reviewed their website which is in English and had room pictures & floor plans. I stayed in the Santei Villa and enjoyed every minute of this traditional Ryokan.
