This inn is actually a hotel in disguise. The amenities and facilities are very user-centred. At the lobby while waiting to check in, you can find free flow of freshly ground coffee at your disposal, hence the lobby reeks of coffee bean aroma.
There are multiple lifts serving the guests and they are pretty fast too. For the elderly folks who need a rest, a simple seat is designed within each lift to serve that purpose. How thoughtful is that!
The room is cosy and the bedside lamp has a dinner function to alternate brightness for your convenience. The pillow is splendid and feels like our Tempur pillow back home, providing the firm support that our necks need. The TV system is a smart one as we are able to choose “do not make the room” on our Home Screen. Netflix and YouTube are available too, providing us some entertainment for us who are non-Japanese. The water pressure is good for shower, and there is sliding door that separates the the bedroom and the bath/toilet areas.
The buffet breakfast is worth our money as we find everything is so systematic. Every staff knows exactly what to do, and it is not chaotic at all. A food spread that can match a 5-star hotel, which includes grilled scallops, grilled mackerel and salmon, and even crab meat omelette for your dining pleasures.
We stayed only for 2 nights but are extremely happy with the hotel! (Located next to JR Otaru station)

Here is a small hotel just located in front of the station which offers, for €54 per night, very good service with a very nice onsen and above all a fabulous breakfast for around €10. You can have raw fish tempuras, croissants scallops and so on, it's amazing From the decor we can't say that it's terrible, called brownish and without too much light in the rooms. But what can we expect at €54 per night?

This hotel is in a great location right in front of the station. Our room was on the second floor, and the large communal bath and restaurant were on the same floor, which I thought was convenient, but the long walk down the hallway from our room to get there was a bit tiring for an elderly person. The hot spring was a little on the low side, but it felt good. Breakfast included grilled seafood and a self-made seafood bowl, and was so satisfying, using local Hokkaido ingredients, that I even thought it was better than going to a restaurant in town. I have no complaints about the in-room facilities.

Just stayed at Western-Japanese room with 2 twin beds and Tatami room.
1. Location Convenient, across from Otaru Station. Canal district is about 7-10min walk and shopping everywhere. Glass stores and main tourist area: it's a quite a walk if you don't take taxi or car. Has parking on basement and parking attendant was very helpful and hard working.
2. Room I had Western/Japanese room and 3 of us stayed very comfortable. It was on corner room and enjoyed both sides of views. Window does open but one of the window on the sides opens all the way without any screen or safety bar, so I would not stay in this room OR don't open the windows at all if you have children. Cold breeze from windows were refreshing for us.
There was separate toilet and vanity/bath area was good. Bath has small tub but it was really really old.
3. Public bath There are public bathroom on 2nd floor which was VERY nice for this size of the hotel. Coin laundry (free laundry, paid for dryer, separate units) was inside the public bath. Dryer DOES dry well within 30min which was very helpful.
I liked the location and convenient size, but hotel is getting old and needed renovations. I can tell that this hotel was built in the 80s and did not do much of the updates.

Cheap hotel!! The rate is expensive for what this hotel has to offer to the customers . The rooms are tiny and the shower is not suitable for foreigners . So small ! I must say that everyone at the reception desk were very kind and helpful that was a big plus .I believe this chain is just charging for their location as it is in front of the station . Please update your lobby with clean and better chairs

The hotel is very conveniently located, opposite JR Otaru Station and bus station. There are also supermarkets and a triggerfish market nearby. The hotel rooms are clean and tidy and the hot spring facilities are complete. Enjoy Yoming Ramen. Breakfast includes fresh fish, crab meat and eggs.

Located just a stone’s throw from the JR Otaru station, this hotel is very conveniently located.
We arrived in Otaru early and as it was too early to check in, we left our luggages with the hotel and went out sightseeing before returning in the evening to check in.
Took a walk to Otaru canal before making our way up to Tenguyama before returning to check in in the evening.
Thought the room was slightly smaller than the Dormy Inn Express Hakodate Goryokaku but definitely much more crowded here.
There is a natural hot spring communal bath available within the hotel that can be used from 3pm to 9am overnight. Body care, head care and foot care massage are available at a price.
Wifi access is available though a little weak.
Complimentary noodle soup is available from 9.30pm to 11pm. Buffet breakfast has a good variety of items.

The ferry from Maizuru to Otaru arrived just before 9pm, and it took a little over an hour to get to Sapporo, so I stayed here because it was too late. The entrance to the parking lot is at the back of the hotel, and it feels like you're in a semi-underground area. Even after 9pm, there's a staff member there, so it's safe. It's a little tricky to get to the large public bath and restaurant on the second floor after getting off the elevator, but I was able to spend the time there without being bothered by the surrounding noise. You can check the congestion situation of the restaurant and large public bath on the TV, but when I went right after breakfast started, there were nearly 15 people lined up, so I think it's better to go at a different time.

Hotel are old, they spend lots effort for every tourist feel comfortable. This is good. Due to it is travel hot season, their spa and snack may not handle so much capacity, you are better to offset your schedule, to get best experience. Location are very good for us, near by JR station and rental car pick up place.

No, hot spring in Japan are almost universally single-sex. Different-sexed couples need to each go to their separated side of the baths, with no contact (physical or visual) between them.
There might be some very remote, outdoor hot springs in the woods of Hokkaido that are still co-ed...the way such springs were in the olden days..but when Japan began incorporating Westernized customs at the end of the 19th century, co-ed bathing was discontinued.
Also, if you have any tattoos, you will not be allowed in the hot springs. I am told this is an anti-Yakuza measure.

Just take the train to Otaru from New Chitose Airport and stop at JR Otaru station. You can take a bus but likely to need to change bus at Sapporo. Time wise by bus will be slightly longer but not that much cheaper compared to the train.
There are more places to choose from in the Otaru area.
