I came to Kanazawa to eat crab. The restaurant I reserved was close by and there were many convenience stores and restaurants nearby, which was very helpful. The room was spacious and I was able to relax comfortably. However, the water pressure in the shower was weak, which was a shame.

For Japan, rooms are quite big here because it is an apartment hotel. For the price you get therefore quite some space including a small kitchen area, especially if you travel with a small child like ourselves. Central location, 7 mins by bus to the station ( stop not far from entrance, 200 yen to the station) short walk to castle and gardens.dont forget to book non-smoking room to avoid disappointment.

It is actually an apartment hotel. The layout of the building and room is that of a typical "mansion", except there is no kitchen, but there is a microwave. Japanese style bath. Room size is big. Fully open sliding windows. Individually controlled full climate control. There is virtually no hotel lobby to speak of. Guests can use rooftop bath at the APA Hotel Chuo across the street. Hotel parking is a few blocks away.

I'm a little surprised by some of the previous reviews, our room was lovely, very comfortable, very clean and spacious. We got a twin room as it was the same price but looked like the room was bigger, which it was.
I found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good, across the road but that was no big deal.
The area is perfect for sightseeing and we walked to everything, never needed to use the loop bus at all. The best part of our stay was just exploring on our walks to the attractions.
I think this is a fantastic hotel to stay in Kanazawa and would definitely return if i am lucky enough to find myself in Kanazawa again.

Positive : great location, friendly staff, spacious rooms, onsen style spa facilities at the sister APA hotel across the street.

Negative : rooms albeit spacious, are run down.

For the same price, we could have booked the Trusty hotel which is just down the street, and judging from the bright and modern lobby, it is a more modern facility.

We stayed here for 5 nights as part of our annual six week sakura trip.

The room was much smaller than the 344 ft² description would lead one to believe. At least 50% of the space was taken up by the entry hall with a good closet, and an oversized bathroom. The bedroom itself was cramped. There was not much room for luggage although there was a broad shelf along one wall. This shelf slanted downward so the suitcases which we did put on it kept trying to slip off. We had to put one suitcase on the even broader, and flat, window ledge and another on the desk.

When we moved the desk closer to the wall to accommodate a suitcase, we discovered a lot of dust on the wall and the floor where the desk had been. Although housekeeping made the bed each day, the linens were not changed daily: one of the sheets had a stain on it which we noticed the first night and it was still there the next night. One day the supply of teabags was not replenished and the tea cups were not washed. Housekeeping needs to take more care.

The onsen across the street at the APA Hotel Kanazawa was not very pleasant to use. The onsen staff were much more welcoming to guests at the sister hotel where the onsen was located than they were to those of us who arrived with vouchers from the Villa. In addition, you have to walk down the street and then across the street and then down the other side of the street to get to the onsen; coming back to the Villa one day it was quite windy and raw out and I got a chill which resulted in a cold from walking outdoors with wet hair. This is not the hotel’s fault but it is something to think about before you venture out to the onsen.

The hotel is in an excellent location for walking to Kenrokuen garden. It’s close to many restaurants and convenience stores including a bakery down the street where you can get a quick breakfast. A Mini super market is within walking distance as well. For those so inclined there’s even a McDonalds in the area - we didn't visit it, but its availability might be a plus for some hotel guests. Shopping is something we don't care much about, but there are plenty of upscale stores close by.

One woman on staff had good English and was especially helpful. Others used a translation application on the computer and that worked well enough for our basic questions.

A very nice touch was the collection of origami cranes which we found when we arrived - one on each bed and one on the ethernet cable (yes, that’s what I said!)

Thank you for staying our hotel. We apologize you had not good stay in our hotel. We will tell housekeeping that clean a room more carefully. And also, we will check a room carefully as well. -Always Pleasant Amenity- This is our basic principle. In addition, APA means that center of Japan-“J APA N” This is why we want to make our hotel more comfortable, so that we refer to your advice for our hotel for the future. We have a many thing to improve though we promise we will be better and provide you a best service for you. I’m looking forward to staying again in our hotel if you have a chance to come to Kanazawa again. Thank you for a make time to your post.

Nothing really to complain about. Got an upgrade to an apartment from a tiny double room due to weekday empty spaces. The staff is really helpful and polite. The hotel is a mere 15 minute walk from Kenrokuen garden and less than 30 minutes from two Geisha districts. In terms of both nominal prices and value for money it was my cheapest stay out of 14 nights in Japan.

Cons:

The hotel was not the cleanest.

Our review of this hotel may be influenced by the fact that we booked a twin room and therefore got more space. And a lot more space! Small walkway into the hallway with wardrobe (!!) into a spacious bedroom. Adjacent to this was the washbasin area complete with more cupboards, a fridge, tea/coffee making facilities and a microwave. Separate toilet. Separate shower. It was big! Excellent wi-fi. All very clean and supplied with the usual slippers, dressing gowns and range of toiletries. Location was great in the middle of a very hip area with restaurants and convenience stores all nearby. We had a car which we parked across the road at the sister APA hotel. You would need to take a taxi or bus to get to the gardens. Only complaint would be that its central location on a main road did mean that we heard some of the late night Saturday party goers coming home but bottom line our stay was very good value for money.

We chose this hotel for a two night stay as it had, by some way, the largest rooms (around 36 sq m) for the price in Kanazawa & was in a convenient location for us. Booked as singles the rooms were actually both twin, with reasonable bathrooms & even microwaves. They are in the very centre of town, surrounded by shops, restaurants & high rise hotels & other buildings. It is a strange area – the only high-rise section of the city, but only around 15 minutes walk to Kenrokuen garden, the museum area & 10 minutes the other way to the (small) old Samurai area.

I guess this whole hotel (previously an apartment block) will be redeveloped into a super high-rise itself: for now it feels pretty drab & neglected. The room décor has clearly not been attended too in recent years & the carpets were old & stained. The cleaning was also below the standard we have come to expect in Japan. The atrium – off which all the rooms lead – has a glass roof, but one ‘wall’ is not a wall at all, but simple louvers, though which the wind whipped. Fortunately there were inner & outer doors to each room which kept sound out & heat in.

Spa facilities were provided at the top of the APA hotel opposite (Kanazawa Chuo). They were adequate, but somewhat crowded. Breakfast was also provided in the ‘Seatles Best Coffee’ establishment on the ground (1st) floor of the APA Kanazawa Chuo. I have to say this was not a pleasant experience. On entering the café on the first morning (about 9am) we were ‘faced’ by the backs of 6 staff members – all madly washing up. None even turned round. No Japanese welcome - ‘irasshaimase’. My enquiry led to one member simply pointing to the pile of trays by the counter & turning away again. I helped myself to coffee (in paper cups) & the somewhat inadequate selection of western items for breakfast. There were a few croissants, but not even any bread or a toaster. I thought I’d maybe caught them at a bad moment – but I watched as guest after guest arrived to be treated in exactly the same way. It was only a little better the following morning. I have been coming to Japan for over 45 years & have to say this really was the worst ‘service’ I have ever experienced. If you really need to stay in the APA Villa Hotel (or the Chuo since it serves both) – I suggest you simply book the room without breakfast: there are plenty of other establishments nearby to feed you first thing.
