The Toyoko hotel offer you a clean room, free shuttle to the Kanazawa train station (starting at 6am) and a free Japanese breakfast (they also have bread, croissant and butter). The staff don't speak so much English, even though they are friendly and they'll try to help you. The location is great, near the main attractions.
When you arrive at Kanazawa train station take the east exit and pick up the bus number 4, it's a free ride with your JR pass, go out at kourinbou stop (after more or less 10 min the starting point).

There are 2 Toyoko Inns in Kanazawa. I have been to both. This is the one near the city center (& NOT the one next to the main train station). You can take the buses from the main bus station right outside the train station, look for any bus that takes you to "Korinbo." You can ask local "Korinbo" & they will confirm. Bus drivers are very helpful & knowledgeable & they seem to know "Korinbo Toyoko Inn." It is 30m away from the Bank of Japan Kanazawa branch.

The hotel runs a shuttle service. I find it more useful to take that back to the train station. It runs at about 30min interval in late afternoon. Go the North/West exit of the train station & head to the charter bus drop off area, which is another 40m away from the train station exit. There is not any specific sign for the shuttle, look for their shuttle with the hotel logo painted on the side.

We stayed four nights in the Toyoko Inn and were very pleased with it.
The rooms are a decent size (the twin very big by Japanese standard) and very clean. We paid 7,350 for the first three nights (room for 2 people) and 7,140 Yen for the fourth as prices went down on the 1st April (inc Japanese breakfast, free internet and telephone in the lobby).
It is also very well located, within walking distance to the touristic sights, shops and restaurants.
This is a very good value hotel and we would definitely stay here again.

Good value in downtown location. Kanazawa is actually quite small and you can walk everywhere, but we used the Machi Dori bicycle service (Y200 a day, need credit card, first 30 min free, great return system even when the rack is full, better than Paris bicycle service). The tourist bus is Y500 and slow. The room was small (as you'd expect in a Japanese hotel) but comfy and clean.

Pros - wireless internet, lan internet, free buffet breakfast (japanese and western style), free shuttle to station, toyoko inn membership avail and recommended by the staff as it gets a good discount and early check in. English was a tad limited but we got through with our pigeon Japanese, opt for the eco plan to get Y300 off each night as well (they give you fresh towels), great location. We paid roughly Y3000 a night we is not much more than a hostel and we got free food too! Bed was a bit hard which is Japanese style but not too hard.

cons - no iron in the room, (and how japanese of me to say so) - no vending machine on the floor so you have to get it downstairs.

The Toyoko Inn Kanazawa Kenrokuen Korinbo (東横INN金沢兼六園香林坊) is one of the nicest that I've stayed. I reserved a single and got a double bed with plenty of room on the floor to move around and put your suitcase (in some you have to slide a suitcase under the bed to have room to walk). There was even room for a chair between the bed and TV/desk (in some you sit on the bed to use the desk). There was a wooden rack with hangers on one wall to hang some clothes. The heat pump kept up with the cold during my stay but in case the temperature dropped further there was an additional heater on the wall under the window. I didn't need it so I didn't attempt to turn it on. The bathroom was the fiberglass one-piece version with an updated washlet and 2-speed exhaust fan. The empty mini-refrigerator is standard. There were 3 elevators to get to the upper floors (most TIs only have 2).

To start off, this TI is located in the central business area of the city, quite a walk from the station. However, they run free shuttles from the train station on the west side to the hotel starting around 4 PM. Check the web site for complete photo directions to find the bus pickup location. Otherwise, a taxi takes between 5 & 10 minutes and costs around Y1000. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, & Tiffany & Co are just across the street and Armani is next door to the hotel. On a more practical note, the closest convenience store is a Lawson just 50 m north of the entrance where you can get supplies to stock your frig. If you arrive early, there's a back room behind the lobby PCs where you can put your luggage until check in time (3 PM for club members and 4 PM for others).

The central location gives easy access to Kenrokuen & the castle area, the Nagamachi district, Nishi Chaya, Teramachi and the Nomachi Kutaniyaki Kosen studio. It's a bit far from the Higashi Chaya district and the city market but you can still get to these on foot if you want.

Just to the south toward the river is a selection of restaurants and shops.

The breakfast is the typical Toyoko-Inn fare. One morning there were round mini-omelets and the the next they were mini-omelet shaped omelets. Also included were onigiri, sausage, meatballs, and salads. Coffee was from a a machine that doled out very small amounts but you could go back for more. The only thing missing from this breakfast that I've found at most other TIs was fruit juices. The dining room was the largest of any TI I've been and even though it was busy one morning there was no problem finding a chair. The second morning I went in at 8 AM instead of 6:30 AM and the place was almost empty (Breakfast was from 6:30-9).

The WiFi worked fine and was fast enough. I was able to use my Ooma app to call US phone numbers for free with no delay. There is also a LAN wire coming out of the desktop if you want to plug in. I compared the LAN to the Wifi and didn't notice any difference in speed although I didn't run any speed test.

In regard to some of the other comments, this is a business hotel, catering mainly to traveling Japanese businessmen. If you want to slide into this niche, it is an affordable option. If you're expecting a western tourist hotel, you might find it lacking. Personally, I use a hotel when I travel as a place to dump my luggage, clean up, and sleep. Anything more is an extra. The Toyoko Inns are excellent at meeting these requirements. In addition, I get a water heater to make tea, a hair dryer, a refrigerator, and a TV that has HDMI inputs so I can plug my tablet into the TV and watch a movie on a larger screen if I like.

I can't comment on the front's English ability, but they did everything I requested when I asked in Japanese and were more than helpful.

This hotel is quite big and location is the best you can have in Kanazawa. They offer free transfer to JR Station but check schedule services at reception. Staff was very polite at reception and room spotless. Light Breakfast was good but a bit too crowded of people. I would definitely stay again at this budget hotel.
If you plan to stay in Japan more than 10 nights in Toyoko Inn, membership is a good option for discounts

Arrived during Golden Week and the placed was packed.

Pro's. Location, close to the main tourist attractions - Gardens, Castle, Market and Samurai District. Many eating options nearby (Frangipani Restaurant - Yum!) in the Department store (Daiwa) across the road or in the nearby lane-ways. Staff were helpful. The free station shuttle was a really nice touch. The breakfast on offer catered largely for Japanese tastes (not surprisingly!) but a nice offering at this price point. A free tea dispensing machine in the foyer was great.

Con's - The room was small and the bed was hard - even by Japanese standards. Check in was pretty late, at 4pm but they did offer secure luggage storage. Internet was on offer but pretty slow.

Summary - Good hotel in handy location offered with a cheap room rate.

This is the perfect location to walk to most, if not all, of the sights around town. We walked to the gardens, the castle, several old districts, and the fish market from here. The rooms are tight but clean, fun toilets with lots of buttons to play with. Best part was the buffet breakfast included in room rate which had a good variety of Japanese breakfast options for the adventurous. Shuttle service was on time and a great convenience. Several restaurants nearby. Walk up the road to the Portugese influenced shrine at night - quite pretty.

Large business / tourist hotel in the centre of Kanazawa. Good location for the loop bus or walking to the main attractions, 10-15 mins to the Castle of Kenrokuen and close to the main shops and market.

Rooms are fairly small but comfortable, free breakfast is busy in the mornings.

We spent one night at Tokoyo Inn during our visit to Kanazawa. It is very well located just 10 minutes walking from the Keronkuen garden, 5 minutes from the Kanazawa castle park, 5 minutes from the Samurai district, and a couple of minutes south there are some supermarkets and shopping centers. JR station is far from the hotel, but it is compensated by the free shuttle provided by the hotel. If there is no shuttle service when you check out, just take any bus going north, all of them stop at the JR station.

The room (double room) was not as small as we used to have in other hotels in Japan, big enough to feel comfortable and equipped with full amenities. The staff was very friendly and polite. The Wi-Fi worked very well. The free buffet breakfast was good, but maybe they could have more options as there were only a few Japanese dishes.

We highly recommend the Tokoyo Inn as we had a very pleasant stay.
