As we were two women, we inquired about cosmetics in advance, and they prepared samples of POLA for the number of nights we stayed. A 500ml bottle of water was provided every day. The Hokuriku Shimbun was also placed in a plastic bag in front of the room.
We only had the buffet breakfast one day, but the variety was plentiful, the quality was high, and it was delicious.
When you arrive by taxi, staff will carry your luggage from the taxi trunk to the front n8 on the second floor. Even after checking in politely, the bell staff showed me to my room with my luggage. It rained on dinner outings and the next day, but umbrellas were quickly rented. They call me immediately when I take a taxi. After all, the City Hotel convinces me otherwise.
The room had twin luxury floors, but it was spacious enough, and Kutani-yaki coffee cups and other fixtures were elegant and comfortable. If you want, a Nespresso machine and bath salts would be even better.
Luxury floor users can use the Club Lounge on the second floor. The modern and beautiful lounge was open and comfortable and I used it many times during my stay. Compared to other foreign lounges, we had only simple food, but in the evening we had fruit, cheese platters and sweets, and in the morning we had a breakfast of simple bread, yogurt and fruit.
For breakfast, though, I wanted to eat a lot of Japanese and Western food, so I used the buffet breakfast at the restaurant, but it was nice to be able to use it without queues and to be able to eat a variety of Japanese and Western dishes.
I think it is the best hotel for sightseeing in Kanazawa.
There was a large (for Japan) but dated bathroom with thin narrow towels. There was a cork floor in the bathroom and a long sink surround which was handy for toiletries etc. The bath was short and not particularly deep. However there was an odd ledge to get into the bathroom which was a trip hazard.
There was a hard bed with Japanese style seed pillow. The room safe was large enough to fit my two DSLR cameras and my ipad. But here was no shelving and the air conditioning was very ineffective. CNN was the only English language channel. There were no bedside tables, just a ledge with a light. But at least the room had 2 arm chairs & desk chair. The room had poor, gloomy lighting and you could hear your neighbours through the wall.
The concierge was extremely helpful and helped me book a bus ticket and checked the route I was planning to take in case it had been affected by the typhoon.
There's a Starbucks on the ground floor and also a nice patisserie opposite (which sadly didn't open early enough for me to use). The Wi-Fi was good and my room had a view of the town. It was about a 15 minute walk to the garden and about the same distance (in the other direction) for the ninja temple (which the hotel kindly booked for me). The hotel also kindly arranged for a geisha show for me but in the end I went to one in Kyoto.
This time round we were assign to the 1325, west facing as the rooms on the west side are much bigger. The rooms can get warm with the afternoon sun and therefore best to turn off the heater in winter and open the windows to air the room.
Checkin was a breeze and hotel help make some restaurant reservations.
The doorman was extremely friendly and helpful with the luggages. We took the train from Nagoya and the hotel shuttle pick us up at the train station. Need to make prior arrangements and check hotel bus schedule.
Will definitely stay here again as we prefer this part of the neighbourhood- shopping mall. It’s about 1km walk to the market and 2km walk to the old district. But with the cool weather makes walking enjoyable. Taxi rides are reasonably price at 600y per first km.
We be back.
This time we only had 2 nights and the hotel was still in immaculate conditions. We had a room
on the 14th floor and it was spacious.
We did not eat at the hotel as there were food options within walking distance and opposite the hotel in the basement of the shopping mall, which was linked underground.
The room felt a bit warm for us and we had to open the window for a few hours to cool it since the room was west facing. The aircon was a bit weak but work for us at 20c.
The valet or bell captain was a fantastic, friendly n helpful guy. Awesome is the word for this gentleman.
There is a 1500y for overnight parking.
We will be back again.
The room has a Kanazawa-like atmosphere and is well-equipped with amenities. I am grateful to the staff for their kindness in helping me with all the things I didn't understand. A foreign staff member guided me to my room, and I was impressed by how carefully he spoke difficult Japanese.
For breakfast, I chose Japanese food, and all the dishes were delicious and filling.
I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity to visit Kanazawa.
If you go into the underpass next to the Yamato department store where you get off after a temporary downpour when you take the bus home from Kanazawa station, you can reach the hotel without walking outside and dash for about 3 seconds to enter the hotel entrance.
There are many restaurants next to downtown Katamachi, but despite weekdays, there are many shops that queue up to the outside, and you may need to make a Reservation in advance, especially if you're looking for a popular restaurant.
