Centrally located, Yamamuro Ryoken is an easy walk to the main visitor spots in Kanazawa. Clean, well-organized, and with good English instructions, we loved this ryokan. Although there were others staying, we never heard them. Highly recommend the Botan room which is big and is the one room with a private bath. It has a nice view of the garden and a comfortable seating area. Downstairs is the hot bath, and it is sufficiently big enough for 2-4. When using it, you can mark/block the area, so that you have full privacy. Bungo was extremely helpful with a great list of local restaurants, and marked the best spots to visit on a map. His English is more than good enough, and he is happy to make reservations for you. The first thing he did was to make a reservation for us to go to the Ninja temple (which is well worth seeing). We immensely enjoyed visiting with Bungo for a couple of hours one afternoon, and learned a bit more about his family heritage, the local area history, and Japanese culture. He and his mother are very kind and sweet, and made our stay very special.

This is a family home with several guest rooms. We had the largest room with bath and toilet. Comfortable bedding is on the floor with a lovely view of the garden from western-style chairs on the verandah. The ryokan has a family-size onsen where you can bathe privately with your partner. Location is a 15 minute walk to the station but close to the sights. Free wifi.

We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Yamamuro! Our room was spotless, comfortable, and very quiet. The family that runs the inn couldn't have been nicer. They were extremely gracious, responsive, and easy to communicate with, and they gave us excellent recommendations for places to visit in Kanazawa and restaurants to try. They helped make our time in Kanazawa one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Japan!

Very clean traditional ryokan as expected in Japan.
Easy walking distance from the train station and only a couple of minutes walk away from the famous food market.
Lovely hosts.
Superb dinner and breakfast served in the dining room.
A huge room equipped with all i needed (even a toilet and a small bathroom) overlooking a little garden.
The common bathroom was clean and bath prepared by my host was kept at perfect temperature to unwind after a long day out.
All in all, i was very satisfied with this place and will return for sure.

I've been meaning to review this place for a while now but never got around to it. The location of this ryokan is perfect, extremely close to some of the major attractions in Kanazawa and not too far of a walk from the central district either.

The service was perfect, both the owner (Bungo) and his mother are extremely welcoming and helpful. The owner speaks decent English as well and really tries hard to meet any requests/demands you may have. The rooms are clean and neat and the beds are traditional, meaning they are futons where you sleep on the ground which I find rather comfortable. The bathrooms are shared but they can be booked out in advance if you ask the owner.

The mother also cooks an extremely tasty Japanese breakfast, a very well home-cooked and hearty meal. Absolutely delicious. This place is suitable for families, friends, solo travelers and couples and highly recommended. I'm sorry it took so long for the review Bungo, but thank you for the wonderful hospitality you showed me last year :)

We stayed only 2 nights at Yamamuro, but it was our best choice during one month in Japan.
It is well located (walking distance to all sites in Kanazawa, ~20 minutes walking to the train station).

It is traditional, clean, comfortable, cosy. The bathroom is shared, as in most Ryokans. There is also a traditional Japanese bath that you can book (very hot, but I like it).

But the best was Bungo and his mother kindness, they were really helpful. Bungo not only recommended restaurants, and he came with us and booked it for us, as the staff was not used with foreigners, such level of service is not usual.

The western breakfast was also good. So if you ever go to Kanazawa (and you should, it is an interesting city, the garden is very beautiful), I definitely recommend this place.

Bungo and his mother are really kind and helpful. The place is charming, great atmosphere, confortable and the location perfect !! Bungo recommended us a lot of restaurants and both we've visited were excellent. He also showed us on the map the places we should visit at first, after dark or early in the morning. And his mother cooks the best japanese breakfast we've had during our trip in Japan. I totally recommend this place !

Staying at Ryokan Yamuro was one of the best decisions for my recent trip to Kanazawa. I concur with the other reviewers that it is located very close to the various attractions in the city. Bungo and his mother were extremely helpful in every little requests we have, and were the epitome of Japanese hospitality. It was lightly drizzling and they happily lent us umbrellas and provided directions to recommended food outlets in the vicinity.

in our rush to check-out, we accidentally left a few items in the room and these were neatly packed and returned to us when we were leaving the ryokan. The room I stayed came attached with a bathroom and it was clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast (assumably prepared by Bungo's mum) was delicious and traditional.

Overall, the stay made us feel very welcome and this is definitely attributed to Bungo and his Mum, who makes every effort to make one's stay enjoyable. Look no further, Ryokan Yamamuro is my recommendation when you stay in Kanazawa.

I highly recommend staying at Ryokan Yamamuro. I only stayed two nights but would have loved to stay longer. The rooms, the facilities, the location, the Japanese breakfast were all wonderful, and above all the hospitality was incredible.
Our room – a private with a bathroom – was very spacious, and included a wardrobe, table and a safe. The deep bath was perfect after a cold day outside, and the sliding doors opened onto a beautiful little sitting area that looked onto a small courtyard garden. There were traditional robes, towels, and ample bedding provided and the futons were comfortable. The wi-fi connectivity had no problems, unlike other places we stayed. It was a block away from the Omicho markets, and an easy walking distance from all the major districts and tourist attractions in Kanazawa, but just far enough away to be a peaceful, private area. We ordered the Japanese breakfast on the second day – prepared by Mrs. Yamumuro - and it was delicious and quite big for 1100Y – I would definitely recommend trying it.
The level of hospitality provided here was just incredible. Our hosts – Bungo Yamamuro, I believe, and his mother – greeted us with tea, local ginger biscuits, and a thorough explanation of the area, including giving recommendations for restaurants and sights and answering any questions. When we told Bungo we were planning to go to his favourite local restaurant, for example, he printed off both the bus timetable to get there AND typed up an English guide to the menu, which was all in Japanese and beyond our comprehension otherwise.
If you are staying in Kanazawa – which I also very highly recommend – then you should absolutely stay here! Fantastic.
