Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Our family of 5 stayed 2 nights in a Japanese style room. It was clean and very spacious and we actually had 2 bathrooms! The hotel is very close to the main train station, which was convenient as this is also where you catch buses from to view the main tourist attractions. There is also a shopping centre and lots of restaurants nearby.

My wife and two teenaged daughters and I stayed in a Japanese-style room for two nights, and were pleased with the accommodations. The people who run the place are very nice and accommodating, and make an effort to speak English to guests who don't speak Japanese.

The rate for the Japanese room is quite reasonable -- you won't do better for a family of 4 (if you don't mind sleeping on futons on the floor).

They serve a nice breakfast (American or Japanese style) which is a pretty good value.

The location is very convenient to the train station, but not super-convenient to Kanazawa's main attractions. But the hotel is right on the bus loop, so you can get wherever you want to go pretty easily.

The hotel is a little on the old side, and it's not sparkly clean. The first room we went in reeked of cigarette smoke (so they put us in a different one, which did not smell.)

All in all, a good value.

The family that runs this hotel is very pleasant, caring, and welcoming, and do speak some English. My room was clean but the furnishings were a bit out-of-date. The hotel is two blocks from the train station, a perfect location if you have a lot of luggage! There are plenty of stores and restaurants in the train station complex, although the museums and the famous Kenrokuen Garden are clustered in the downtown area which is about a 20-minute walk. I booked this hotel through the Rakuten Travel website and paid only 4,500 yen for a single room. It was a great value. (I did not take the breakfast option, so I can't tell you about the food.)

Really, really, horrible.
Smelly. Needs a refurbishment.
Horrible.
It was awkward from start to finish.
The deeply ingrained old cooking smells were a trial every time we walked in.
That said, the people were quite nice.

Lovely little hotel, only 5min walk to the train station and bus terminal. I was arriving from Tokyo to Kanazawa with the intent of joining my friends who were already staying at Hinodeya. However, due to having missed my train in Tokyo I got to the hotel terribly late, way passed the normal check-in time. As such, I was afraid I wouldn't have a place to stay for the night because the front desk was closed and I couldn't go to another hotel either. With the help of some staff members who personally contacted the owner, the owner was able to accommodate me in my friends' room, despite it having only two twin beds. The owner was so helpful in finding me an extra bed and adding it to the room for my convenience, and all that in the middle of the night! The breakfast the following morning was wonderful, a perfect taste of Japanese cuisine made with fresh and local produce. The owner was cheerful and helpful, and very understanding too. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kanazawa on a budget, and who would prefer to avoid standardized American hotels in favour of Japanese-style inns.

This hotel is a 5 minute walk from Kanazawa Station and is situated amongst several Western style hotels. The main part of the town however is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute bus trip but everything is very accessible and Kanazawa has a nice wide open feel about it, and from a tourist point of view has lots to see. We had a twin room for two nights and found everything spotless and welcoming, the best part being that this was about $90 a night, compared to $150+ the asking rate at several other nearby Western Hotels. Towels and linen were changed each day, which was unexpected. The staff at the front desk were friendly and we were able to check email on the hotel laptop in the foyer. As you'd expect, the rooms were typical if not a little characterless but we were not looking for that, so it suited our sleeping needs well.
