Dinner was 2800 yen additionally but it was traditional gorgeous Japanese one. Big breakfast was only 800 yen. We did not spend much money on foods during our 3 weeks Japan trip, so it was good for us to have real Japanese cuisines there.

This Japanese inn is located very conveniently for Kanazawa station - although we actually arrived by car. They have a couple of parking spaces at the hostel so we could leave our car there. We had reserved 2 western style rooms for ourselves and our 2 teenage daughters but were delighted to be offered a large tatami room (16 mats) for our use. This meant we had lots of space to lay out our futons and room for the low table as well. There was a lot of extra bedding available, there is hot water or green tea on tap, and you can reserve the onsen in the basement for private use in the evening, which we did. Yukata and towels are provided.
WiFi is available but the signal was very weak in our room.
The lady in reception spoke quite good English and she was very helpful with suggestions of places to visit and getting around.
We had a great stay here. I would thoroughly recommend it, and also Kanazawa as a place to visit.

The very friendly owner does everything she can to accommodate a good stay.
The location is excellent, 3 minutes from the train/bus station.
Comfortable room for a reasonable price; very good breakfast for just 800 Y (she made a veggie breakfast for me and a normal one for my daughter).
Unlike traditional ryokans, which often leak a lot in wintertime, the rooms are well isolated and have own airco/heating.
Wifi does work in the room (our room was on 3rd floor).
The sento bath is a real pleasure after walking a lot in the city.
I'd select the same inn if I come back to Kanazawa

We found this Ryokan to be a decent place in a good location. The rooms are small, but charming and the bathrooms are clean. This was our first experience of a Japanese style hotel and we loved the small table in our room and the tatami mats. The futons were ok for us, though we had to cram two adults and one 11 year old onto two futons (but we made do!)
It was easy and convenient. The hosts did not give us any advice about what to see and do - We relied on the local information booth at the train station (very close!)
There is also a cute little grocery store with a variety of offerings nearby that we went to a couple of times.

What Ryokan Shibaya has to offer is decent rates, a convenient location (less than 5 min on foot from the station), clean rooms and friendly service. The large ofure on the first floor also deserves a mention as you can soak your bones there after a long day.
Unfortunately the building is a bit non-descript (but then again, most buildings in Japan are) and the rooms could do with a bit of renovation. They are still, though, more than worth their price.
The proprietress deserves a mention, too. She invited us to have a dinner at the staff/family table after offering us a glass of wine. She speaks also some english, but it helps if you speak Japanese (like I did!). Even a little amount of Japanese helps the communication.

Great little business ryokan near Kanazawa station. The room and all the facilities were absolutely spotless. Has a nice big Japanese bath. I think ladies get their own smaller one elsewhere in the building.

The owner was so kind and friendly, she even lent me bicylce for free.

The only negatives were that the rooms were not that big and because the building is relatively new, you could hear the other guests if they were being noisy.

At 3,800 this place is great value.

"The western style rooms we saw were quite small - the tatami room we had was much bigger and more fun. If you are worried about sleeping on futons you can always ask for additional layers, but the experience of sleeping Japanese style in a lovely tatami room is definitely worth trying."
