Detailed Reviews
We had a fantastic stay at Kinjohro. We had two absolutely delicious dinners and breakfasts in beautiful dining rooms, our own room “Take” was very spacious and surrounded by a scenic garden, and the service was flawless and very friendly. We haven’t seen or heard any other guest during the two nights stay. It’s a very private and exclusive experience. The location is very convenient for visiting Kanazawa’s main attractions.

Lovely ryokan. The building is old, spectacular. The gardens are very pretty and the decor is lovely. The room was very spacious and very comfortable. Futons were lovely with lovely bedding. The food was excellent - very beautifully presented, creative and tasty. The staff were very attentive and helpful. It was quiet, and while I was told there were other guests there, I didn't hear anyone. This was the highest end (most expensive) ryokan I stayed at during my trip, and it was by far the best!!

We weren't sure about staying in Kanazawa due to an already packed schedule but were so glad we did, even if it was for just one day. The park and castle are worth a visit, as are some of the historic houses. Helping round off a great visit was staying at this Ryokan. It is a modern building that doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is terrific. It is done in a modern minimalistic style and our room was very nice, with a great view of their garden. The decor is very nice and I was so busy taking photos that the lady showing me around had to point out that the lovely Japanese style plants/decor I was taking was actually the entrance to the toilet!! Staff were very friendly and the dinner we had was superb with great service. We had our dinner in a separate private room that looked out to a lit Japanese garden - very nice. The location is not that convenient and you need to catch a taxi To get around but it is only a 10 to 15 minute ride to most locations including the train station. Overall would highly recommend staying here if you are in Kanazawa.

During our vacation in Japan we wanted to try ryokan type of accommodation. We chose this one in Kanazawa although the price was basically two times higher than in luxury 5 star hotel in Osaka and Tokyo. This price included also dinner and breakfast so consequently we expected excellent quality and experience.
Room and service were fine, average quality I would say. However, the food was basically uneatable. During out two weeks in Japan we tried a lot of local food with no problem (local as well as Michelin star restaurants). This however was really terrible experience. I think that the main problem was the quality of ingredients (low quality fish etc.) If the cost of the stay was ten times lower it would be acceptable. But it was not the case, unfortunately.

Thank you for staying at Kinjohro. We appreciate very much that you stayed with us in the traditional city Kanazawa. All rooms of our ryokan are a suite type and furnished with high end quality goods up to amenities, bedding and furniture. Regarding cuisine, the chef selects seasonal ingredients personally and food is not only delicious but also dished up to provide a beautiful appearance. We have been striving to make our guests’ stay comfortable and pleasant. But on this occasion, we regret and apologize that we were not able to meet your expectation.

I booked this hotel to celebrate my wife's birthday and given the special occasion selected this place on the back of its price... Don't let the high price deceive you as it was a disappointment from the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out.
Upon arrival there was no one to greet us and when we called someone who had absolutely no experience of greeting guests turned up. After some time we were able to leave our luggage in one of the 'holding rooms' which eventually ended up being our room.
I think we were the only guests staying so when eventually the guest relation lady turned up she was more interested in finding out when we would be turning in for the night. We experienced the same at check out as she kept making suggestions that suited her schedule and showed no interest in what we wanted to do.
Throughout dinner she would stand in the corner of the room yet failed to pour any alcohol and butt into our conversation without being invited to do so.
It has been 3 months since we visited so I have forgotten a lot of the negative details but the one thing I remember is never to book a hotel based on price ever again!!! Avoid this place at all cost.

This is a local hotel, where you sleep on footon on not on the bed...
The 11 course dinner looked very nice, but it is not passing Western tast, we do not find tasty sea urchin or sea comcombre...
So we eated probably 1.5 dishes...
It is totally overprised - 10900 yen for 1 night half board...
NOT recommended

This is a very traditional ryokan with a great reputation. The hospitality was outstanding and lived up to its reputation. However, after settling into our room we had to move , to a slightly lower standard room, because of alarming noises coming from the air conditioning unit.
The multi course dinner, kaiseki, served to us on our own in a private dining room was rather bland and not very appetizing for western tastes. The western breakfast was ok , but nothing special. Unde seasoned scrambled egg with cold pieces of chicken breast.
This was by far and away the most expensive place we stayed in a three week tour of Japan, and was supposed to be a special “splurge”. It was a bit disappointing and grossly over priced

I visited this tempura restaurant on 7/29 with my mother and a friend from Spain, and we enjoyed not only the amazing food but also the atmosphere of the delicate and sophistication of the culture.
From the The chef was very professional and so kind. You can definitely enjoy the authentic experience of Kanazawa here! Worth the visit:)

Stayed here for 2 night during our time in Kanzawa. We arrived early and dropped our bags off (Small communication issue but we were early). When we returned at the 4 o'clock they had an English speaking host. They got us checked in and determined times for dinner and breakfast. This is a TRUE ryokan. No western elements here at all. The room was beautiful but minimalistic in line with the true Japanese aesthetic. We then used the hot bath and dressed in the provided Yukata. We have dinned all over the world but the dinner was a real experience. It was 2-3 hours and a real Kaiseki experience. The ingredients were very high end including abalone, crab, globe fish and beautiful presentation. They have a nice sake list to compliment the meal. While we were downstairs at dinner they transformed our room and layer down the futons. We slept surprisingly well. The breakfast presentation was equally beautiful. It was very traditional as well. So be prepared to be adventurous!! The experience was pure Japan and should definitely be tried. Our kids are really adventurous (age 11 and 13) but if not they might not find the traditional Japanese food appealing.
