Detailed Reviews
My husband and I stayed at the hotel for four nights. The hotel is a bit of a trek from the train station, if you are walking with luggage, but the location can’t be beat for access to the two big sites in Kanazawa, the Castle and Kenrokuen.
The front desk staff at the hotel were lovely. They were very well prepared and it was very nice to have staff that spoke English (although we could have muddled through with broken Japanese). They were prompt in getting us checked in and very helpful with their explanations of where things were situated in the hotel
Our room was fine. Enough space for the two of us. There was some stains on the carpet, but other than that the room was immaculately clean. My one complaint about the room was the pillows. They were so hard. We find that most Japanese hotels offer very hard pillows and it makes for uncomfortable stiff necks in the morning. If there had been some nice fluffy pillows it would have been great
We had a kaiseki dinner at the hotel’s restaurant one evening. It was excellent. The food was prepared and presented in a traditional fashion. The service was bar none and the food was delicious
My only other complaint about the hotel was with regard to breakfast, and it was only one of the mornings. There are a lot of rules in place right now due to Covid and we were more than happy to follow the rules during breakfast to ensure everyone’s safety. However, on the Saturday morning we were there, it was busy and several other patrons did not feel the need to properly mask or wear the gloves that were offered, when at the buffet. There was one family in particular that had no masks, no gloves and were coughing and sneezing, as well as one other woman who did not wear gloves or a mask. As it was busy we could not grab the attention of the manager to inform him of their flagrant disregard for the “rules”. We opted to leave our breakfasts half eaten in order to preserve our health. The other three mornings we enjoyed breakfast without issue and everyone following the rules

A bit dated and a a little bit tired, but what a lovely hotel with large rooms and great location. Sitting areas in the room were wonderful, the onsen was very nice, we really enjoyed our stay here. Everything we needed for the two days we were in Kanazawa were within easy walking distance. It's location counts for a lot. We had a room that faced the castle though it was not high enough to let us look over the castle grounds. Still looking into the hillside at nature was a nice change for us.
We never ate at the hotel because we thought the cost for breakfast (though I'm sure it would have been good) was high and we tended to wander the town for our other meals. Free shuttle back to the train station was nice but a little more information on how to catch it from the train station would have been nice.

this hotel is just beautiful with old fashioned decor but tastfully done. stained glass and beautiful vases just sets off the foyer. the staff are just lovely and will help with anything. it is about a 20minute walk with luggage to the hotel and a shuttle was offered on the way back to the station when we left for free. even the lifts are nicely decorated. the room is a nice size and bed was comfortable. the hot spring bath was great, best one yet. loved how they told us not to go naked in the foyer! it is right next to the castle and close to the beautiful gardens. about 10mins walk to higashi chaya gai area and about a 4min walk to a drug store and family mart. the markets were about 6mins away. not many restaurants in the area, they all seem to close early. the hotel has a restaurant but we didnt eat there.

A disappointing stay - cramped and gloomy room overlooking the street with an hour or so of street noise in the middle of the night. Limited choice of food options (both menu and time availability) and not somewhere that seems to set out to delight its guests. Good shower and clean room although dirty laundry lined our room for much of the day. We moved elsewhere after 1 night.

The hotel is very well located for everything in Kanazawa - the park is right at your door step. The interior is beautiful and the service was excellent. We had a problem with the heating in our room and the staff immediately looked into the issue and advised us it would take a little time, so they offered to move us, which we did. We felt that the hotel went out of its way to make us comfortable

Great hotel just 10 minute taxi from Kanazawa station. Perfect location in the middle of everything making it easy to walk to all attractions and tons of restaurants. Room feels brand new, very nicely decorated and comfortable. Bed is great, air con works, shower is perfect. Staff at front desk are very sweet, but English is limited. I'm sure that will improve over time as tourism from abroad continues to grow. This is the only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars as we had a small issue getting a taxi in the morning before their 10am shuttle service began. Do not hesitate to stay here, though. It's a great choice.

Really nice, comfortable, quiet and extremely Japanese hotel. The staff were all excellent--from the front desk, to the housekeeping, to the breakfast buffet staff. We had a delightful junior suite, which was spacious, comfortable and quiet. It would be better if there were more English speaking staff. There was one front desk woman who spoke English, but not many more. They all tried to understand and to be helpful. Thank goodness for translation software. That's my only possible negative comment. Perhaps the hotel can hire a couple people with some English proficiency. Otherwise, a really excellent hotel

This hotel is very close to the Kanazawa Castle Park but too far to walk from the JR station (a 1020 yen taxi ride). We chose it as we wanted to stay in a hotel with an onsen and this hotel turned out to have a great onsen. It is more a Japanese than a Western hotel and most guests were Asian with quite a few families. There were no English channels on the TV. The buffet breakfast was predominately Japanese with just a small Western section. We wanted the authentic Japanese hotel experience and we definitely got it here. The room was good with L'Occitane and Shisedo toiletries. All the staff were very nice and tried to be helpful but often our English was not well understood. The highlight was definitely the natural onsen on the 3rd floor. There is a dedicated elevator directly to the onsen (separate rooms for men and women) so that you can change into your yukata (supplied) in your room and then go directly down to the onsen. It is a natural hot spring with 2 pools and also a small sauna room. We went on all 4 nights of our stay and it was popular with the local Japanese guests and surprisingly not embarrassing (for a Westerner). The hotel is a 3 minute walk to the castle and a 10 minute walk to Omicho Market but it is too far to walk to the downtown shopping area of Kanazawa. Hint - the women's onsen was quiet between 4-6pm and much busier after 8pm. We stayed in 5 different hotels/ryokans on our 3 week (independent) Japan holiday and this hotel was our favourite.

Response from 金沢白鳥路ホテル山楽, お客様担当マネージャー at Kanazawa Hakuchoro Hotel Sanraku

Thank you very much for you kind and accurate remarks on your stay with us. We are very glad to hear that you had very Japanese experiences during the four nights. The coffee color natural Onsen on the ground floor is most condensed one in Kanazawa so that you could indulge yourself into relaxing water after your exploration of the time honored castle town. I do really thank you for sharing tips on our hotel, especially quiet and busy time of the Onsen as well as weekend L’Occitane amenities. With regard to our location, it is a trade-off relation between quiet and convenient for visiting popular local sites, and busy and close to the station but far from the castle, the garden, the market, Geisha districts, etc. In short, we are lucky enough to be right next to the castle. When it comes to our English skill, it is limited, as you have mentioned, so that we try our best to anticipate your needs and wants, and we are on the way of training our communication skill in rooms and F&B section. Most of all, it is encouraging for us to hear that you found our hotel your favorite among establishments you had stayed in Japan. I thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We look forward to welcoming you back in the very near future. Kindest regards,

We visited this hotel and I was disappointed with the service on several levels.
First the good.
The rooms are of good size and the hotel is in a nice location. The hotel is a bit older and has not really been updated recently but everything is a good working order. Breakfast was self serve with a good selection of items including Japanese or Western dishes. The staff in the breakfast room were very pleasant and accommodating. There are stairs to the meeting rooms and no elevator and at least one of the restaurants is similarly up the same stairs that have no elevator. But there are elevators to the guest rooms.
Now the bad.
The staff at the front desk were extremely unhelpful in a variety of ways. I was injured on my day or arrival and not able to move around easily during this trip so I needed more service than is typical yet I would still say the staff did not come close to meeting my expectations, even if I was fully mobile. We were most fortunate to have a very helpful person from Japan to assist us otherwise we would really have been stuck. As a result of my injury we could not go out to dinner and when we asked the hotel about eating in their restaurant we were told they were full-fair enough as we were asking at the last minute. But when we asked if they might be able to offer us room service of any type the answer was a clear NO. Even as I sat in a wheelchair they showed zero interest in helping us find a solution to the problem of limited mobility and no space to eat. In fact we then asked if they knew of any Thai or Indian restaurants and were told there were none in Kanazawa. Oddly one of our colleagues was standing at the front desk and informed us they ate Thai at lunch!! So clearly it was possible but the staff just could not be bothered to look on the internet or ask someone else behind the desk who might have known more. After more than 30 min of going back and forth looking for any solution from the hotel we finally found a restaurant that would deliver udon and tempura to the room but it was not the staff who found it but another guest at the hotel. Good grief!
I have to say the delivery was a huge treat as it came in a beautiful painted wooden box with real dishes and chopsticks and packed to perfection. It was so clever and not at all like one gets deliveries in North America. The delivery person told us he would be back in an hour to pick up the dirty dishes! It was just like eating in the restaurant without ever leaving the room. Yum yum. A bad day had a very happy ending-but no thanks to the uninterested staff at the hotel.

Spent five days the first week of April 2012.
We loved the hotels location. Right next to the castle and gardens and walking distance to the market - a favorite place. We had a rental car so free parking was great as was the driving trip to Noto along the sea and the driving trip between the white mountains and the sea to visit sake factory by the airport. Loved the Japanese bath as well as full bath and three beds in room for the family.
Favorite eating spot.....we went three times....I call her MAMASON but her stall is two down from the sake store and although it's just a stall with a few benches to eat....iced beer... and the food was so fresh and wonderful that we kept going back. She splits the fresh lobster and puts it on a hot grill and opens GIANT fresh oysters that are so big no one could eat whole and she says not to put sauce on them because they are fresh from the sea..........everything could almost be watched as it came off the boat. So we stopped one last time just before going to the airport to return to my son's home in Shanghai and we told her we were low on yen.....so she gave us a complementary platter of the best tuna sushi I've ever put in my mouth telling us how much she appreciated our eating there so many times.

I don't know I'm sorry
Yes, we have western menu items as an integral part of our breakfast buffet menu.
Comments by Wendy M & IndiaRavi are absolutely right, as our breakfast buffet showcases culinary culture of Kanazawa, highlighting seasonal dishes of this castle town and local produce.
However, I would like to remark that it is prepared by the chef who had been trained in Alsace for 4 years, also we put an importance on the taste of international travelers as well as domestic guests.
Dear E G,
Unfortunately, we do not have bicycles for our in house guest.
Instead, we do offer an IC card for the Public Rental Bicycle at our concierge desk at JPY1,000.
とてもコンパクトではありますがとても温まるいい温泉があります。お湯の色は少し茶色の温泉で、身体がつるつるになります。ホテルの雰囲気もいいし、せっかくですので温泉に浸かって疲れをとりましょう。おすすめですよ!
