I spent two nights at the hotel and have zero complaints. I found the room super clean and it came with everything I needed. The bathroom was clean and had a shower along with a deep bathtub. There was also a great onsen on site, which was perfect after traveling on trains all day. At night, there is a happy hour where you can use the self service drinks machines; I found it to be great value and the bar/restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. The staff members were polite, attentive and helpful. Location wise, the hotel is a short walk away from Kanazawa Station, making it easy to get around the city.

In Japan, house and room sizes are expressed in terms of Tatami mats (1.62 sqm per mat). I have now devised a new measurement unit for Japanese hotel rooms, the Shoebox, the SB unit (3x3 or 9 Sqm). Whilst our room in the Washington Hotel in Tokyo came in at a minute 1.4 SB, the room at the Manten Hotel in Kanazawa recorded a minuscule 1.3 SB. To put this room size into perspective, couples occupying rooms of less than 1.3 SB need to practice asynchronised breathing before entry!

Whilst the bed was an acceptable and comfortable queen size, everything else was small. One chair, so you basically had to sit or lie on the bed. Nowhere to store your luggage except in the small entrance corridor, which impeded opening of the bathroom door. The standard layout Japanese bathroom was the smallest so far encountered, although the water and toilet seat were both hot. The room was a bit surprising considering the rest of the hotel, corridors, reception area, restaurant, were reasonably up market. The location was good, close to the Forus shopping centre with its multitude of restaurants on the 6th floor.

The breakfast was interesting, with separate Japanese and Western options, although we’ve never had corn soup in a Western breakfast before. The service was quick and the “hot“ breakfast fare was lukewarm, not totally stone cold for a change.

In summary, passable but hard to recommend based on the grossly undersized rooms.

Walk to the back of the station for about 5 minutes. There is nothing around, so it is always necessary to walk to the station before leaving. This is inconvenient compared to Katamachi and Korinbo. On the other hand, I think it's good for business use where there's business around the station.
The second floor public bath is bright with many glass windows. It feels good to have an open-air bath and a Jacuzzi inside.
My room was a small business hotel, and I didn't want slippers to be reusable, not disposable. Take the toothbrush and shave from the side of the front.
I went to breakfast at the start of 6:30, but there were about 20 people in line and I chose a Japanese-Western set meal.
It was a big hotel and it was beautiful, but I think it's for business.

Worst hotel. When I tried to have a massage girl enter the room in the middle of the night, I was charged an additional 4,000 yen. A large man who appeared to be the manager with glasses asked for my room number in an intimidating manner over and over again, and even though I told him I was only using the room for a short period of time, he was insistent that it was the norm and didn't care. There is no mention of additional charges in the accommodation terms and conditions, so it's a rip-off. This would not be possible in a business hotel. Dormy Inn has an additional charge of 1000 yen. I will never go there again. 0 star level. Even though the name is Manten, the correspondence is 0 points.

It's conveniently located about a 3-minute walk from Kanazawa Station, and a 1-minute walk from a Family Mart convenience store.
Perhaps because there are many rooms, the pre-booked plan is a good deal.
The large public bath is large and comfortable. Also, you can get free ramen every night from 9:30 p.m., which is convenient if you get back late.
My only complaint is that the Wi-Fi is weak. It's not suitable for people who want to work in their rooms. If they could improve this, it would be perfect.

Travelled with a group of friends and ended up choosing this hotel and we couldn't have been happier. The hotel is about 2 city blocks from the station West exit, there is a convenience store at the station and also a Sunkus within 1 block with a selection of restaurants on the main road side as well. Hotel has a large lobby with gender-separated public bath on the 2nd floor. Opens from 5am-9am and from 5pm until midnight, but otherwise free to use, just bring your room towels; as per other reviews, onsen is one of the largest and least crowded I've experienced. Coin laundry costs 300yen, but they provide free detergent, and tumble drying is standard 100 yen per 30 mins (you'll need 60mins at least).

The room actually had a massage chair inside which was a great addition. We booked a double room and while not the largest room around, after folding up the massage chair their was enough space to open 2 large suitcases.

Skip the hotel breakfast, because for half the price you can get a breakfast set at one of the station cafes or if you prefer there is Starbucks at Forus (station shopping mall) and Seattle's Best at the APA Hotel also at the station.

I had one incident where I asked the hotel to ship my bags to Tokyo since I was going to do a one-way trip along the Kurobe-Tateyama Alpine Route, and they misplaced my tracking slip! However, the shift manager was able to resolve the issue eventually and they found my slips; I have to mention that the manager hardly spoke any English and I relied mainly on my conversant Japanese otherwise as other people have stated, this hotel could be "sign language only".

Found promotion rate on the internet for this facility so then we have one night accomodation in this hotel. Price is JPY 6,800 for twin, it's super cheap in Japan market. Unit bus (Shower and restroom) is attached with each room, and they have very big onsen bathroom (based hot spring ) for share use. Of course, men and women are separated for privacy reason.

But,,, I don't recommend this hotel for foreigner tourist, because you can't bring in your big luggage into this small accomodation. The hotel is closed to Kanazawa station, but the location is very quiet so you will be bored with surrounding .

Highly recommend for the budget traveller with your own vehicle , then you have a meaning .

Some of hotel staff speak English at the level of routine service if my memory is correct.

The hotel is a short 5 minute walk from railway station - exit through West gate and turn right. We booked a superior double of 18 sqm which was good size. For ¥25,000 we stayed 3 nights. There is an onsen onsite and free computers and wifi. You can walk about 30mins or take bus to main sights. You must tell them before 11am to clean the room. Another feature was a massage chair in the room.

Some key tourist sites are easily reached from the Manten. The hotel is within a few minutes walk of the train and bus station. It is modern and clean and we experienced friendly English speaking staff. A wifi router is available from the desk free of charge and works OK. In addition to the typical toilet and bath/shower room, the Manten also offers a nice Onsen if you enjoy a good soak. A breakfast package is available for 1000Yen and is recommended for its convenience. Western and Japanese options are available. The Western includes a choice of ham slice or beef patty, potato, broccoli and carrot (odd for breakfast) and scrambled egg. Toast and a choice of rolls, fruit salad and yoghurt and coffee/tea and fruit juice. We had no hassles getting refills. There are some nice garden views available from the breakfast room, but t was busy during our stay. There is a moderately priced restaurant for evening meals or you can try the convenience stores and restaurants in the train station shopping centre or walk 5-10 mins to nearby restaurants. Kanazawa is not on the main westerner tourist trail so you will not find as many English menus or window displays with marked prices as you have in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. The hotel is a good option for tourists because of its quality, reasonable price and proximity to the station with its tourist information office and hop on, hop off tourist loop buses which are good value at 500 Yen for the day. Tip: Cheap drinks (beers, wine) and meals are always available from convenience stores and supermarkets; the hotel has a vending machine nook on each floor that also has a microwave oven for guest use so you can heat meals from the stores or supermarkets.

I would like to have detailed walking instructions from the JR station to the hotel. Thank you.
Answer from Barb D
Slave Lake, Canada57 contributions18 helpful votes
We had to ask a security person to find our way. I will try to explain. Come down from the trains to the main level of the station. There is a busy concourse with shops, travel info office. Turn toward the rear entrance of the concourse ( away from the elaborate front entrance with all the bus stops). When you get out of the train station, turn right immediately. Do not go to the street, just follow along the edge of the train station/shopping centre. You will go by a smoking area, a convenience store and several entrance doors to the shopping centre. Just keep going and you will eventually spot the hotel sign partway up the high rise hotel. The hotel is on the opposite (left ) side of the street. You do have to cross the street at some point, but you will be able to see the hotel by then. It is about three or four blocks, I think.

It is the easiest way to eat dinner in the train station. There are reasonable noodle shops, sushi restaurant, and so on. Near the hotel are staek restaurant that might be fancy. A Fish restaurant are also near the hotel. You can see many shops in oppsite side of sitation.
