If you are planning to visit in Hida Takayama, we highly recommend staying at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort which located on a small hill in Hida Takayama. Although the hotel is a little far from the heart of town, our shuttle bus would take you from JR Takayama Station to us directly in 8 min quite frequently. Flat-TV, air conditioning/heating, bathroom, in-room refrigerator and free wi-fi are provided in all our rooms. In addition, we have large-scale hot spring bath with an amazing view of the Northern Alps and free parking lot which makes your access by car very convenient. The popular sightseeing places of Takayama city such as Old Town Streets, Takayama Jinya and Nakabashi Bridge are easily accessible from JR Takayama Station within 15-min walk. The World Heritage Site of Shirakawa-go can also be reached in about 60 min, and Kamikochi in 90 min by car or bus.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

Rooms are very spacious for a Japanese hotel. I got a suite room with twin beds and Japanese-style living room (photo). Nice hotel. Breakfast buffet is okay. No need to stand in line. The hotel is geared for large tour groups who come by tour buses.
The major drawback is the isolated location which means there are no restaurants or convenience stores in the vicinity. The hotel's dinner restaurants are expensive and seating is limited. If you don't have advance reservations, you cannot dine in the hotel or you may have to eat very early or late before or after the main crowd.
There's a free shuttle bus to town where there are restaurants and convenience stores, but the restaurants in town close early, at around 6 pm. The closest restaurant is Gyosai, a short taxi ride down the road. Good Japanese food, but they don't speak English. For dinner in Takayama, need to plan ahead.

Very nice hotel . Convenient shuttle to and fro from Takayama station . The room is very nice . It was nice to have washer and dryer there as that was the mid point of our trip and washed clothes there . The onsen is excellent . I loved the karaoke room and spent a while in there while the clothes were being washed next door . The only thing is the term half board is mid leading , yes you can have dinner but it’s full price , I reserved half board dinner before I came there from USA itself expecting it to be well half board / half price as I have seen in hotels around the world but they charged the full price and said in Japan half board is breakfast and dinner yes but the dinner is still full priced . Very few people in Japan even in hotels can converse fluently in English and I was not going to debate the point but still enjoyed my stay

Thank you very much for your recent visit to our hotel. If you would like to add dinner on the day of your stay, you will be charged the regular rate, but if you make a reservation for the half board plan, you will save a little money, which we hope you will consider in the future. We look forward to welcoming you to our hotel again.

The hotel consists of three buildings, a park wing on the 13th floor, an alpine wing on the 17th floor and a spa wing. It stands on the mountainside and you can see the Northern Alps very well. The room I stayed in was on the top floor of the Park Wing, a twin room. The view from the room is amazing. It is a room where you can relax so much that you don't feel any tightness at all. The wallpaper is completely free of dirt and tears, and the furnishings are all luxurious and satisfying. It is fully equipped with a large 50-inch TV and the latest humidifying air purifier. The bathroom sink is spacious and easy to use. Meals are buffet style for both dinner and breakfast. There was a wide variety of dishes on the menu, and the curry with Hida beef was particularly delicious. There are not only indoor baths, but also five elaborate open-air baths. In particular, the farthest observation bath is made of natural stones, and you can see the view in front of you. It's unusual to find stand-up binoculars (free) that are common at the observation deck. The level of service provided by the staff is high and the service aspect is excellent. It is a hotel that you can recommend with confidence.

The family of four stayed for a children's club activity tournament. It is a little far from the city center of Takayama. That seems to be why the parking is well prepared. We arrived late and left early so we stayed without meals. The four of us stayed in a triple room, a relatively large room with a double-ball washroom and a large and comfortable TV. The building feels somewhat old, but it was well maintained and cleaned and there was no problem. The public bath was a little away from the room, but it was a big bath, and the quality of the spring was good and pleasant. It was cleaned, but I was a little concerned about the smell. The public baths are built on the 5th and 7th floors of the building, and the outside baths are located overlooking the city. Satisfaction was high because we had to change the system at night and in the morning. I don't know what to eat, but I felt that if you stay without meals, the public baths are great, the rooms are large, and the hotel is good value for money.

It's far from Takayama Station, but there is a bus. There is also a service to deliver luggage from the cafe at the station to the hotel, so you can enjoy sightseeing at your own pace!
The room was clean and the classic interior was lovely. The view was also nice!
There were many foreigners, and the TV had programs in multiple languages other than Japanese.
There are several types of hot springs, and they are alternated between men and women. It was also nice that the slippers were sterilized with ultraviolet light (?) at the slipper stand at the entrance. By the way, there is also a private bath, so if you want to take a leisurely bath on your own, I recommend using this.
The bar is open until around 11pm, so it's good for those who want to relax after dinner.
The hotel has a great souvenir shop, and the food (teppanyaki and breakfast buffet) was locally produced, which was great!
Above all, everyone was kind and quick, which I really liked.
I would like to use this when I go to Takayama again.

We stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.

Hot Springs Hotel in High Mountains, located in the middle of the mountain, although there is a shuttle bus shuttle to return to the hotel to the train station, but it is more convenient to access from or by self-driving.
The hotel is larger, the place is a lot, the hot spring facilities are good, quite clean, the opening time is very long, it can accommodate the needs of different guests. Just because the hotel has been open for decades, the room renovation is a bit old, it is time to refurbish.
The buffet breakfast offered by the hotel is quite abundant, the Japanese and Western cuisine are well done, the staff's attitude is quite good, and the guests are very attentive to the needs, the morning sunshine in the window to the table, will actively drop the curtains, so that guests can enjoy the cuisine in comfort, worth admire.

We stayed one night with our escorted tour. The Mountain View was very nice, and the hotel even named the hallways to the guest rooms with mountain names, like Alps. The decor throughout the hotel was full of flowers. Things are not symmetrical in Japan, so we had to be careful with finding the right turn to our floor etc. Our room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was very polite and willing to help. The breakfast had many choices even grilled mackerel.

Good hotel, but on the edge of town. The hotel has a reliable shuttle bus, but other than the "old town" section there is not much to see. There are no restaurants nearby the hotel.
The hotel is good with large rooms, catering for tour groups. Be aware that the traditional Japanese restaurant is very expensive.
The shower is hot and clean, beds comfortable and the surrounding area is very quiet.

This hotel provided spacious rooms which were clean and well maintained. The staff were very helpful. The negatives are that the hotel is a little out of town and the shuttle bus service is somewhat limited and be prepared for 2000yen taxi trips. The hotel is large and had about 20 coach trips this resulted in the breakfast being akin to Shibuya scramble crossing!
