Our stay at Oyado Yamakyu was easily one of the highlights of our trip. The ryokan is located within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see in Takayama, and the shuttle to and from the station was convenient in helping us move our luggage. The food was fantastic, we enjoyed being able to sample a wide variety of...

As part of our trip through Japan of 4 weeks we visited Takayama. When you look at places to stay in Takayama there are many places to go to in this relative touristic hotspot. As a preparation we read many reviews and this place was a good place to enjoy a ryokan experience in Japan without spending hugely per night....

We stayed for three nights whilst in Takayama - and we absolutely loved this place! Inside is decorated so nicely - loads of little things to look at the gave such a homely feel to it. All members of staff were friendly and accommodating and couldn't do enough to help and advice us of the best things to do during...

13 of us were met at the station right on time and driven through the centre of beautiful snow-covered Takayama to cosy, welcoming, antique and art-filled Oyado Yamakyu located a short walk down to town and in a very pretty area of shrines, walking tracks and old houses. Friendly Yoshiko and the rest of the smiling staff have all the...

12 of us stayed here for 3 nights in late November, and it was wonderful. The front of house staff (special mention to Koichi) were so obliging and pleasant, starting with picking us up at the train station when we arrived and finishing up with presenting us with photographs they took of our group during our stay. The inn is...

Extremely comfortable accommodations, elaborate and fun meals, and a great Japanese bath make this a good choice when staying in Takayama. A longer walk from the station but located right next to a bunch of temples on the north side of town. The inn met us with a van at the train and brought us to Yamakyu for check-in, which...

Stayed 3 nights at Oyado Yamakyu in mid October and really enjoyed it. We were picked up from the train station. Staff were very friendly; breakfast and dinner were excellent; great location short walk to town; really nice private Onsen. The decor in the Ryokan was fabulous. The owner is into collectibles and antiques. There were funky display cabinets everywhere...

I had stayed in one Ryokan previously to this one, and I am getting used to the wonderful personalised service provided at them. It is different to staying in a hotel. it is more like a bed and breakfast which makes it more communal and intimate. This was a beautiful old building, with gorgeous gardens and spacious well equipped rooms....

We had a fabulous time at Oyado Yamakyu. It was the first Ryokan we had stayed in so it was surprising at first to see that there was no bed! My husband and I both used the baths and I had the ladies' bath to myself. They were really relaxing and the ryokan provides plenty of shampoo, conditioner and other...
