Hotel is old and tired. Ryokan style where you sleep on the floor and inconvient toilet and sink. Very dated. Food was on the other hand was great. Nice mountain views and hot springs were great. Half board was well worth the money. Not very comfortable.

What a charming ryokan! The owners couldn't have been sweeter and we adored our room overlooking the river and the morning market! Loved our dinner there with mama-san decked out in her kimono and delivering a dazzling assortment of traditional foods (simmering Hida beef, artful sashimi, tempura, etc. along with an assortment of pickles and other things we didn't take)....

It's managed by a family. They don't speak a proper English but it works! You will have a great experience in terms of: futon sleeping, onsen and yukata included: relaxing with green tea offered. In the morning I suggest absolutely the Japanese one: the right choice. I have only to say that the room side has an heating inverter not...

I stayed here in a group of 5 last weekend and really enjoyed it. I have stayed in a lot of traditional ryokan in Japan and this one ticked all my boxes: - new tatami and futon - good heating - nice onsen- aromatic cypress wood tub - great food (we had breakfast here- Japanese one day, western the other)...

I loved everything about this place. The room was very cozy and clean. The staff was very friendly. Sleeping in a futon was a unique experience. Our room had a view of a river. In the wardrobe there was a yukata and it was really fun to wear it! We were offered some matcha tea as a welcome gesture.

My sister and mum spent 3 nights as the Ryokan. Just wonderful and atmospheric. We had dinner and breakfast on one of the days which really recommend, so tasty and the food kept coming. The owners are really sweet and we loved the hot baths. Our rooms were so clean and it was very warm with the heaters. Thank you...

My friend & I stayed here for 2 nights in January during a very snowy time. Takayama was like a magical little town all covered in white and the ryokan was the perfect place to experience this. The older couple + friends who run the place are amazing. We could only really communicate in hand gestures but they were really...

We only were able to book a single night at this fabulous ryokan, but would've probably stayed two nights if we had been able to. Takayama itself is a fascinating village, the only one of its kind left in Japan with so many old houses. The ryokan itself is sprawling and if you get one of the second story rooms...

We felt very special during our stay at Sumiyoshi Ryokan. Me and my family enjoyed our night here. The staff and owners were very helpful, accommodating and friendly. They helped us get our luggage in our room upon check-in, carried our bags and even sent us to the taxi stand after check-out. Absolutely a perfect holiday in Takayama because of...

Only stayed here for one night while briefly in Takayama. Its a nice little Ryokan run by and older couple. They speak very limited English but they will get you setup, checked in quickly and help out if they can. I recommended the included local breakfast that gets served in your room and it's quite delicious. The room we stayed...
