Lovely hotel. Great Location, just beside Takayama Bus Station, where we took day trips to Shirakawago and Kamikochi. JR Train station also just steps away beside the bus terminal which we used coming in from Toyama and leaving for Osaka after. And it's also an easy walk around Takayama itself, we didn't need to take any public transport, easy walk to the Morning Markets and other attractions.
Staff was friendly for the most part. The one who helped us with our luggage delivery form was really helpful and cheerful. She was professional yet make us feel very comfortable with her friendly conversations. This matters a lot especially when you're away from home.
Front desk is not 24 hours. We went down to leave our luggage for the delivery service one night at about 12:30am since we did not want to rush in the morning, and no one was around, the door to the lobby was also locked. But a door to the street was open and unlocked, which then made me think twice about security and safety as anyone could just come in. We knew that we could not check in after 12 midnight but didn't realize that there was absolutely no one there to help us if we needed something. A phone number was provided though in case of any help needed. It would be better to clarify this in more detail in the hotel description esp about security and safety during the night hours.
We love that the rooms had a kitchen, stove, microwave oven, big refrigerator and freezer as well as a washing machine and dryer with 2 sets of detergent pods. It was perfect timing for us to do laundry as we were in the middle of our trip, so we definitely appreciated the amenity. We also bought some food at the grocery to cook one night. We appreciated the opportunity to eat in as we were tired and wanted to have a simple home-cooked dinner.
The decor was also very nice, simple modern Japanese style. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Also appreciated the separate toilet and shower/bath, saves us time during our morning routine :-)
We would happily stay here again in the future when we visit Takayama once again.

This hotel is an absolute gem. The rooms are spotless and very large by Japanese standards, the beds are great and we had our own kitchenette and washing machine / dryer. It is very conveniently located right next to the train station and bus terminal and we weren’t bothered by noise at all. The staff is the best! They are very kind and went out of their way to help us. The hotel is a ten minute walk from the old city center.

This was a great hotel, our room was more like a unit as it had a small kitchen & a washer/dryer. It’s located next to the train & bus station but there was no noise. Also the Residence has an agreement with a nearby hotel so that guests can use the bath house there. Very clean & well presented, would definitely stay there again.

Close to the station, very clean hotel with comfortable beds and pillows. There is no breakfast at the hotel, so can get a simple one at the station or with some luck, in the town. There is a large supermarket some 15 min walk from the hotel, search the map on your device.
Do take the Higashiyama walking course in the afternoon, and find a little gem of a coffee shop (152 Souyuji chou), looks like a private residence, near Souyuji Temple. The owner is a retired music teacher and he will play traditional Japanese instrument for you and its a very special, amazing experience, if you go there lunch time.

The Residence Hotel Takayama is a great hotel in a great location, with all the amenities you need. With a washing machine in the room, it's a great place to recover and prepare for the next leg of your trip. I visited in March 2023 and used it as a base to walk to attractions like Takayama Jinya and Takayama Castle Ruins.
It's next to the station, but I was never disturbed by any noise. The view of the station could be a selling point for train enthusiasts, but it was not relevant to me.

This was our biggest good surprise in Japan: comfortable and clean apartment with everything you need, including washing/dryer machine. Very close to the train/bus station and to the center of the city. Reception personnel are great and you are allowed to use the spa of another walking distance hotel.

Lovely room. Super clean. A typical japanese standards and super staff. Only minus No restaurant no break fast. Fortunately there is a 7 eleven family stores. Otherwise most comfortable n very near walkable distance to rail road and bus station.all under walking dist.

Inaccurately described. Spa was 15 minutes away my foot and then there was a password I was not given. Lots of hair on the floor that wasn't mine or my daughters. I fail to see what all these great reviews are about. It's $100 room and you get what you pay for.

Room is spacious for Japan standard and excellent location. Right next to the bus station!
Cleanliness was top notch as well. Room was well appointed with washer/dryer in the room. Service from staff including the room attendant was perfect. They will put lots of 5 star hotels to shame with their service!
