Hotel's Favourite
I stayed one night at Oyado Koto No Yume to visit Takayama.
Oyado Koto No Yume is within 5-minute walking distance to/from the train and bus stations. Oyado Koto No Yume is in the old town of Takayama.
The small hotel courtyard was lovely. The lobby was comfortable. The Japanese style room was large. The hotel has an elevator for 5 levels. The hotel has both a public hot spring and private ones.
Breakfast was included in the room rate. The Japanese breakfast was excellent. The hotel also helped with diner reservation for dinner at local restaurants.
The only complaint I had was the heat in the room was high. The heater fan did not stop blowing even turned off. I should have contacted the front desk to help but I did not.
Oyado Koto No Yume service was beyond my expectations.

This was our first time at a ryokan and it’s going to set the bar really high. As another reviewer noted, Oyado Koto no Yume embodies the best of hospitality. Right upon arrival, our hosts were warm and helpful. Would also note that the lady whom I think is the owner speaks very good English if necessary. I’ve noticed that the staff will also speak basic Japanese slowly if it’s clear that you’re learning the language and are struggling to speak it but trying—I really appreciated that :)
You’re asked to take your shoes off upon entry, which being Asian, I love. I think the host also wiped down the wheels of our suitcases.
This little place just goes beyond and above with all the nice things they offer additionally (price inclusive) to ensure you have a lovely stay. There’s a yukata service, where they let you choose a yukata to wear inside or outside, as well as plush coats hanging in the lobby area that you can borrow if it’s cold outside. They have aromatherapy burners with a variety of scents that you can choose, just ask the front desk for an aroma pot.
The room itself was pristine and immediately instilled in us a sense of calm. There are little snacks waiting on the table, a fridge that’s actually a fridge and not a minibar so can actually be used by the guest, a full set of cups and plates along with a kettle and coffee pod machine, and the host will explain that you get sleep yukatas and specific face towels as well. If you have the Japanese-style room, the staff will make up your futon while you’re out. They left a sweet note on ours and also a put a pitcher of ice water on the table. It was these little touches that made our stay really pleasant and memorable.
Would also mention that if you’re there longer, or it’s raining, there’s a small manga library downstairs and it looks like you can also do origami, which will get proudly displayed in a glass cabinet. There’s also a bathhouse and you can reserve a private one for a small fee.
Staying at Oyado Koto no Yume felt like being a welcome guest at home. After we checked out, we were given a set of Takayama postcards as a gift.
Would highly recommend you stay here if visiting the charming town of Takayama, and experience the best of Japanese hospitality. I can’t wait to go back.

This hotel is located about 5 minutes away from the JR station. This hotel is pretty new and nicely decorated as a traditional Ryokan. Staff can speak English. Room is big. This hotel provides Japanese / Western style breakfast, and it's quite good. We enjoyed staying there. The most important thing: this hotel provide free parking, but limited; so better inform the hotel if you need a parking.

We reserved a stay here in celebration of our 20th anniversary. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, the baths were lovely, the sedate lounging areas provided interesting books on Japanese architecture and crafts (origami paper provided), and the room was cosy and quiet with exceptionally comfortable double-layer futons. And the Japanese breakfast (one could choose western style), served by charming Kato-san, was substantial, beautiful, and delicious. We have stayed at many inns over our years living here in Japan, and are pleased to recommend this most highly, especially as it is so convenient to the train station and is in walking distance of all attractions in central Takayama.

An Authentic Japanese stay experience. Personalised service, taking care of every need. Rooms are large and ornate with classical Japenese furniture and fittings. They provide Yakutas to wear on-site, all very authentic. Breakfast, western or Japense or Only Fruits is elaborate and the dining room environment is exquisite. Has a great Onsen on-site which is available throughout the day. The place is a short walk from the Takayama Station which is very useful.
So if you wish to stay at a Ryokan, this is it.

An excellent ryokan. Extremely high level of customer service and extras, such as a choice of yukata to wear during your stay and choice of aroma oil to perfume your room at night. The room we had was superb, pristine with high value toiletries. Everything about this hotel is delightful and although it is pricey, it feels worth it. At all times you feel valued as a guest. The onsen are nice - especially the outside one - and if you’re lucky enough to stay for more than one day it’ll be empty at about 3pm (check-in time) and you’ll get it to yourself like I did 😀.
A tiny little niggle was the fact that we didn’t book breakfast at the time of booking and sent an email later requesting breakfast on our two night stay. The hotel wrote back saying we could have breakfast both days, but there was a mix up and they could only fit us in for one day. This was disappointing especially once we saw the breakfast. It is superb and possibly the best Japanese breakfast I’ve had. Make sure you book it if not included. It is an extra 2000 yen, but worth it.

Wonderful service from start to finish. We stayed in a large typical ryokan room with futon. Lovely touches like little origami on your pillow when you go to bed and the different diffuser smells you can pick to have in your room. We booked the private onsen which was lovely. Great location for takyama. Husband had Japanese breakfast and I had the fruit and bread. Both delicious and interesting. Only reason I have given a 4/5 is that the actual place is a bit tired now. Probably needs a bit of an update with the soft furnishings. Great stay though.

Short walk from the train easy with suitcase to reach this special place.
So relaxing and inviting. Cozy lobby to visit with family and large rooms with futons for sleeping. Public bath for men and women are large. Able to wear yukata from hotel for free out for the evening with the help of staff to wear properly and was so fun! Takayama itself easy walking town with sake breweries, wood working and tasty Hida beef. Beautiful countryside.

The ryokan was disappointing overall. The space was very spare and not very inviting. The room was not set up for luggage or clothes storage. The bathroom was very basic. The futon bed was comfortable and the staff were generally friendly and helpful but not overly impressive. You had to take your own towel from your room to the onsen. We were expecting a more luxurious experience.

Authentic Japanese experience including traditional breakfast. The staff spoke English and were amazing. Close to railway station but within easy walking distance to old town, morning markets and restaurants.

They really do not care!
You go down to the baths without anyone around. There is no supervision, no one watching you and you are left to yourself.
The procedure is OK and it was never busy when I went there. Just soak it up!
My understanding is they do have some rooms with western beds but we were unable to reserve those on the dates we were there.
Ours was a standard twin room, very spacious. They do up the bed every evening, for us since we were only two they laid out two beds. I guess superior will accommodate more, I think if you request them to add more beds, they will.
I would assume yes. In Japan, they typically charge by # of heads and not for the # of rooms. But agree with JJB2, they would be able to assist you with no issues.
you book it at reception and its charged to your room. The room is not really one that you would want to dine in unfortunately but I am sure they would if you asked.
