Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are in Volonia, you are in one of the most delightful towns in the world. It is restful, beautiful and there is alot to see and do. La Recompensa is way ou in the country. There is nothing there. Unless you have a car, you will have to take a taxi in and out of town. Yes, you can stay at country inns all over the world, but I cannot imagine that this is the place to do so. The countryside is not particularly attractive. When we got there we found that there was no air-conditioning and the temp was pushing 40C. There was no way we could stay and we were charged for the two nights we had booked

Earlier this year, we stayed at La Recompensa for a couple of nights. We reserved two rooms online through a third party website, but unfortunately, the reservation the inn received only reflected a request for one room. Fortunately, the owners worked with us and let us stay in the small guest house, which indeed has two rooms: one with a full bed and the other with two twin beds. The grounds were nice, but nothing fancy. The main house has a few bedrooms and several common areas; behind the main house there is a pool, an outdoor eating area, and stables for donkeys. Our guest house consisted of a living room, kitchen area, small bathroom and two bedrooms. The guest house is close to a large field of soybeans, which the owners' dogs seem to enjoy and guests are welcome to roam. We didn't spend much time on the grounds of La Recompensa, as we were mostly in town sightseeing. A drawback to La Recompensa is definitely location since it is a cab ride away from the city; definitely not walking distance and there didn't seem to be any public transportation that went out that way. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and are looking for something clean, quaint, and run by friendly people then perhaps La Recompensa is a good option for you.

The location is perfect, just a few km of Colonia del Sacramento. If you´re in Buenos Aires you take a ferry to go to Colonia, and you´ll be there in less than an hour. Colonia is an historical city. La Recompensa is a natural, pacefull place. The room was great, and great breakfast. We were able to enjoy "Asado" and good wine of Uruguay. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpfull. Our childrens enjoy the animals like horses, and the green spaces. It´s a place that we recomended.

The owners seem to think that a beautiful setting is all that travelers need, and La Recompensa is beautiful. However, little else about the place matched the description found on travel websites. It is far from the center of Colonia, and you must have a car or use a taxi to go to town. Many services claimed on websites are either not offered, or are of poor quality. In particular, a strong recommendation is to eat as few meals there as possible. The one dinner we ate there consisted of canned soup, the driest chicken I have ever tried to eat, instant mashed potatoes, and a mushy cannelone (a crepe type wrapping with overcooked vegetables inside). The hotel description on various websites lists multi-lingual staff (only one person spoke a few words of English; other languages may have been spoken), transport from town (we were told to take a taxi), and payment by credit card (they accepted US dollars only), Here is a list of things that didn't work: most of the electricity was shut off in our room. The only light we had in a room with 15 foot high ceilings came from two small bedside lamps We had to ask to have power turned on for the oil-filled heater (whose cord was so damaged we were worried about using it, anyway). For some odd reason, turning on an outlet for use with the heater did not produce any other working outlets or light switches in the room. There was an amazing tiled jacuzzi tub in our bathroom, but of course, only the shower worked. A couple staying in a separate cottage with a kitchen found that the stove did not work when we wanted to heat up sandwiches we bought for lunch. La Recompensa does have wi-fi with a good signal, so if you have your own electronic device, you can access the internet. Our overall impression was that they are doing things on the cheap at La Recompensa. It's pretty bad when there's not enough coffee to get 6 guests through breakfast. And when you see the owner tear a page out of the book where an unhappy guest (not me) wrote her comments, you know it's not a place you want to visit again.
