One of the first hotels in Udon Thani - Appearance is aging however it is a big hotel with facilities for weddings, meetings, a Disco which holds to a 1000 people, karaoke rooms, 2 hotel buildings, pools etc. The room i had was newly renovated so rooms was clean and new. As it was covid times the buffet breakfast was limlited but there's the standard, toast, ham, sausage, sunny side up eggs, congee, fried rice and fruits with office, tea and orange juice. Waiters will take your order and serve it to you. Really warm and friendly service. Room is not small at all and is quite comfy. It is a 10 - 15 minute walk to Central Plaza and lots of restaurants if you go to the right direction. UD Town is probably 5 mins on motorbike. I will definitely recommend this place. Good deal and reasonable with good location.

We did have an issue with a room with broken AC, and they gave us a new room right way. Some rooms have been remodeled, some have not. You can tell they are trying to fix up the place and the changes look great. Great location on maybe one of the main roads in the city. Great breakfast in the morning!

I've stayed at the Charoen many times over the past 4 years, and have always experienced good service, clean rooms, and great food. I've read the other reviews and can only think that these people were cranky whiners. Many times the hotel is fully booked because many Thai people stay there, and the Government holds conferences there. If you are lucky enough to stay when a Thai function is going on, you will be treated to the best buffet in the country, outside of Bangkok. The pool is clean, the service is warm, and the location is great. People complain of the noise. Well, this is Thailand, not some B & B out in the countryside. The bellhops are just trying to make a living when they offer their services. This is Thailand. I really don't know why anyone would conplain about the Charoen for 800-1000bht per night. Maybe those who have posted the negative reviews feel like I do. This is a great place, and I don't want it swarming with tourists when I'm looking for a room. But I had to write this to be fair.

Very very very noisy hotel, located on a very very very busy road. When I say VERY NOISY, I really mean it. The windows are equiped with simple glasses. The reception says that the other side is even worse because of a night club. Please, avoid this place. I spent some nights at Thanburi hotel, that was paradise. I came here just to try something new.
Impossible to sleep, this place is a HELL!!

I've been going to the Charoen Hotel since 1995 it's one of the first hotels built in Udon so it's old,but the staff are friendly and the prices are cheap. The Yellow Bird nightclub is a good place to meet the locals this is next to the hotel. The Charoen will always have a place in my heart as i met my wife there in 1997,she was a waitress and the staff came to our wedding.

I've stayed here twice now and while it's a faded grand old girl I can't say I mind too much. The location is very good being close to the railway station i.e. markets and nightlife area.

The rooms are dated but it's OK if you're not the sort of person who needs everything to be just so. The bathrooms have the lowest shower heads I've ever seen anywhere in the world. They must have been installed by either a four foot plumber or someone who never washed his hair.

Breakfast is that Asian version of a western breakfast but they do a mean omelette which keeps you going most of the day. The clientele is mostly Thai so this is to be expected.

The one thing I do love about the hotel is the pool which is huge if slightly over-chlorinated, but a great place to sit and read a book over lunch and a couple of beers. At sundown it's off to the local market for some great authentic Thai food.

I don't make it to UT very often but if I do I stay here. It's OK for value for money and the service at the desk is always fine, but the bellboys and concierge are excellent and more than happy to get you anything you need (and even some things you don't).

I've stayed in the Charoen Hotel for several times during my visits to Udon Thani. The hotel is nothing special, but for Isan-standards it's okay. Try to get a room in the new building as they are slightly better then the ones in the old building.
Location is perfect, near the shopping complex, restaurants and nightlife.
Staff is friendly and I will definitely stay there again.

Firstly our rooms were the newly refurbished ones on floor 6 and were absolutely beautiful. Couldn't fault a thing in the room except hard beds but that is usual in Thailand.
Staff were lovely, friendly and attentive and WiFi was very good. Free airport shuttle bus was a real plus.
Downsides: the pool was not clean, really needed a thorough clean up operation, we all ended up with green on our backs. The bottom of the stepped area in the pool was gravelly and very hard under foot.
Breakfast, very poor. Extremely basic. I got eggs and they were stone cold. Only the coffee was drinkable, orange juice was just pure sugar. Wouldn't bother next time.
Would I stay here again? Probably yes due to good location, lovely rooms and great value for money.

My father and I stayed at this hotel because of its location and its reliable service. The room is not the most modern nor the best decorated one. It's rather basic but fairly comfortable. The walk-in rate was 1100 Thai Baht for two with breakfast, which was quite agreeable. I stayed in the older building, which is connected to the new one. There's a large room that can be used for wedding or convention in a separate building. There is no internet cafe nearby and I had to use the 50 Thai Baht per hour internet at the hotel. The staffs encourage me to use a laptop as the hotel provides free wifi but unfortunately I didn't bring one. It's nice that they tried to save our money.
