We booked this place a few weeks before we left for Udon Thani. A few days before the initial check in, the place reconfirmed our booking and offered to pick us up from the airport.

We arrived and two staff, one of them being an owner (who spoke very good English) greeted us and took us there. The staff of this establishment were extremely friendly and we got to know about them during our stay. The owner herself and her husband spoke fine English and helped us talk to tuktuk and minivan drivers to get around. They also lived on the premises as this is also a private home. They were also ok with us leaving our stuff here as we went to Laos for a few days and came back.

The rooms are average fare but has basic bathroom and tv and fridge facilities with sufficient and free wifi and a printer. To make up for that was the location: it was located adjacent to a local market and opposite a shopping mall that also lead to another market. Albeit through a busy road and in a corner.

Breakfast is also offered here, complimentary.

Overall recommend this place if you want a good value at $15 USD or 550 Thai Baht a night and close to other facilities and access to transport to and from the airport and as well as in and around the Issan Province.

I arrived to Udon Thani via Nong Khai. On arrival to the bus station, I took a songthew (for 10 bahts) to McDonald(body language = biting fingers to the driver), which was opposite to Surada Guesthouse. After I crossed the road, there was a sign in front of the guesthouse(before you see the railway line) I'm sure you won't miss it. Also there was a bbq hawker stall.

The room decoration was very retro of late '70, however was very clean. It has a balcony to the the road covered with red bougainvillea. Inside the room has a tv and a fridge that a bottle of water was provided. The partition of the ensuite bathroom wasn't reach to the ceiling but it's not a problem to me since there's only 2 rooms on the 1st floor and the other room was vacant.

I was introduced to Surada's friend from Bangkok who also stayed there on that night, we hang out together, did some shopping at the mall and the night market opposite the road and also tred out the thai dessert.

The next morning I prepared my breakfast at the kitchen, some fresh fruits and yoghurt. Surada kindly arranged a taxi to take me to the airport. I found her a very nice and friendly hostress, will surely stay with her again next time when I visit Udon Again.

We really enjoyed this guesthouse. The location was perfect for us. Close to everything you want. Central plaza..food stalls...markets...7-11. Owners were friendly and breakfast was simple but did the trick. The guest house has a wierd layout...watch your head. But we were fine with it. Room was siper comfy water was hot and internet was fast. Yes the train can be an issue but whatever. It did not bother us. We would definatly stay again. We enjoyed our days exploring the city. Japan travel up the road does tours. We did lotus lake and loved it for valentines day. Pick up was across at McDonalds. But season for that is ending I think. Check online.

For the budget traveler this is a must ,not because it's great value at 550 batt but because it's different. Situated beside the Railway line about 1 km from the central Plaza, this little Guest House is hidden behind a facade of tropical greenery, of hanging baskets, potted plants, creepers and flowering overhangs. Once inside you are transported back in time to a bygone age of old world charm , display cabinets with crystal glass, old pictures of past Kings and elements of the female form adorn every wall, potted (mother in laws tongue) and flowers are everywhere and on every step of the stairs. Once upstairs and on reaching the bedrooms it becomes a topsy turkey land of old world elegance, and as you turn the key in your door you wouldn't be surprised to see Hercule Poriot peering through the vegetation at you, such is the Surada Guest house,an experience.
The guest house appears to be run by an elegant English speaking lady and her daughter ,breakfast is served outside in the shade of the overhangs . The rooms are clean ,and fresh ,however holding on that old world charm mentioned already.
There are many eateries , for every taste and pocked nearby and a constant supply of tuk tuks that offer all of the delights of down town Udon

We were collected at the airport (free of charge). Had a private room with our own bathroom. There was no A/C so it was very warm and hard to sleep. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was free WiFi. Guesthouse was only a short walk into the town centre. Room was a bit on the shabby side but we had plenty of plug sockets to charge everything.

It's hard to fault this place. Surada is the name of the owner and her 2 daughters are also on the staff, with 2 other ladies. They couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Forget the fact it's by the train line. I didn't hear a single train. I was given a huge room (the size of a suite) plus spacious rooftop balcony, too. Room 7, I think. Breakfast consisted of eggs on toast (another traveler recommended scrambled, so that's what I had) and unlimited coffee. My room had a huge fridge with just 2 complementary bottles of water inside, so I popped down the road to Tesco supermarket and bought some cereal, milk and fruit.
It's in a handy spot, a 10-minute walk to the train station, Central Plaza and bars area. The only minor quibble I'd have is that the stay would be even better if each room had kettles with tea/coffee. It was a tad inconvenient to have to go downstairs each time I wanted a cup. But would I go back? You bet your life!

This is a private home and guesthouse. We were greeted by the owner and she was very delightful. There are stairs to the upper floors, so if you cannot climb the stairs, then you may want to mention this when you make the reservation, as there are rooms on the first floor. If you are looking for luxury, then this is not the place to go, but if you would like a clean, simple and convenient location, this is great. We had free wifi, small fridge, air condition, flat screen tv with some English channels, balcony, and 2 bottles of water a day. There is also coffee powder, cream, sugar, water boiler on the first floor. There is a train track not far from the front of the building. Our room was to the back of the building, so the train noise was reduced. On our floor there was only one other person, so it was very quiet.

I was like at home in this guesthouse, the thai sisters running it are very very polite and gentle, they offered me coffee everyday. The location is also very comfortable because at 2 minutes from the most interesting part of Udon Thani. Not 5 stars because of the price little bit high for a city like Udon where there is nothing to do.

This guesthouse is in a very convenient location - right opposite UD Town shopping centre. It is also right next door to a 7-11 and there is a bridge to cross the road right out the front as well. The guesthouse is owned by a lovely lady and her sister. They are very friendly and helpful and make sure that you have everything you need.

I rate this well because of its balance of fair price, friendly staff and convenient location.

On the other hand:
We had mosquitoes in the room every night. No idea how they get in. Plenty of mosquitoes outside around the breakfast area, too. Which brings me to the next point.

Breakfast is two over-poached eggs with toast. That's it. All served with condiments in brand name bottles that have been repeatedly filled with MAKRO substitutes, and not necessarily cleaned between fillings. (There is something about this practice that I find grubby. I don't really mind MAKRO jam, but their ketchup isn't great.)

Noise. We had a corner room facing the main road and the railway line. Maybe other rooms suffer less from the permanent rumble and occasional train. There are trains before 6am, so be prepared.
