My partner and I only stayed here for 2 nights before moving on to our next destination in Thailand. When getting the taxi from the airport there seemed to be some confusion on where the hotel was. It cost 800baht from the airport for a private taxi, I believe it is cheaper in a shared minibus, but we opted for a taxi so we didn't have to make any stops on the way there.

On arrival at the hotel It seemed to take a while to check in, staff were reasonably slow. However, we received a welcome drink which was a nice added bonus. When shown to our room it was large, clean and had everything we needed, the shower room was big enough and again sufficient for our needs. A nice added bonus was a small basket of toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and even cotton buds!

There was a safe in the wardrobe however we had not been given a code or key to it. When we raised this issue with reception it took two of them and many phone calls and them coming in and out of the room to supply us with a key for the safe. Usually this wouldn't matter so much but after a day travelling we were very hungry and wanted to go out to dinner as soon as possible.

There is also a mini bar in the room, however we felt we needn't use it as there was a family mart just down the road open till late and was a much cheaper option.

The pool was lovely and clean and very inviting , we used it once and it was a warm temperature. Due to it being low season the hotel pool was quiet which made it much nicer. We took our towels from our room down to the pool but were supplied with two new towels by a member of staff when they saw our intentions of using the pool.

The location of the hotel is good, it's a short walk to the beach and about a 20 min walk to the main strip and restaurants and bars. The hotel itself was quiet and didn't seem to have many guests however we could hear people shouting and laughing at about 11/12pm from reception when trying to sleep, again we usually wouldn't mind but we had to be up at 6am to catch a ferry.

When checking out early at 7am breakfast was already setup and tables were made which was surprising as it's early. Had we have known we would have had breakfast at the hotel instead of buying something from the shop as we thought it would be too early for breakfast. It took a while to check out, we thought it would be a matter of dropping off keys but apparently it needs several phone calls and a quick check of the mini bar before we could finally leave. It took a good 15mins, time we didn't have when a taxi was picking us up.

Overall, hotel was lovely and clean and it great location. Staff and service seemed slow.

We just got back from our second stay at Villa Atchara and it was just as good as last year.
This time we stayed with a large group of friends and their families and it was great.
The hotel treats you like a friend rather than a room number. From day one they knew our friends and kids name and what rooms we were in.
Nothing is to much trouble, from organising day trips out for us to even getting a yoga instructor to come to the hotel for our group.
The rooms are good sized and immaculately cleaned every day. The pool area is great for cooling off anytime of the day and is only a few steps walk from your breakfast table.
The food at the hotel is as good as any restaurant nearby and good value.
To Johan, Parn, Goy, Duan, Ning and the rest of the staff, thankyou for another enjoyable stay and we will see you again next year.

Villa Atchara is a seemingly nice hotel. When you read the review in tripadvisor and booking.com, you will surely thing it as 'value for money'. But don't get fooled seeing these reviews. The hotel says they have CCTV. But ONLY IN THE FRONT GATE. No CCTV in room corridors, so when anything wrong happens with your room, they say 'sorry no CCTV there!'.

Me and my wife stayed there for one night in July 2015. We picked the hotel as it offered cheaper rate than other hotels in same area. Moreover, it had (may be manipulated!) good review through tripadvisor. So we happily picked the hotel and checked in.

The next day, we planned a half day tour. We informed about this tour the hotel staff, in the reception counter. We also requested her for a wake up call in the morning. Then the next day we went to the tour. After coming back from the tour, when we entered our room, to our utmost surprise, we found our luggage lock broken. We rushed to look inside what was missing, we found 200 USD is missing from a moneybag where there were 1300 USD!

When we entered the room, we found 300 USD on our luggage, as if someone wanted to make a scene to prove that we left them unintentionally in a hurry! But we are the most organized people who never do these sort of things. We surely locked the money inside a moneybag and put the moneybag inside a pocket inside the luggage. Missing the luggage, we were very worried and went to complain immediately. The hotel receptionist (She called herself the owner!), told us that nothing like this could happen in this hotel and showed us the photo of our room when we left (they took it when they went for cleaning). It was just as when we entered the room! Now the points are:

1. The room was locked and only the hotel staff has the key and no scratch on room lock.
2. Our luggage was surely locked and there was 1300 USD inside moneybag within the luggage before we left.
3. When we cam back, our luggage lock was broken, 300 USD ON the luggage, 800 USD inside moneybag, 200 USD missing!

So the deduction is simple.
1. The hotel staff entered the room (may be the owner is not involved, but the lady in the reception whom we told that we are going to tour next day surely is!).
2. They broke the luggage lock.
3. They took a little money 200 USD.
4. They took another 300 USD and put it on the Luggage to make a scene that proves we were careless.
5. They took a photo of that bag.
6. When we went to complain, they prove that we were careless by the photo and asks why we didn't put the money in the safe (that we didn't because hotel staffs were not supposed to break the luggage lock, if they do, they can break the safe too!)
7. The owner kept telling her brother is police and so on. There were just to protect themselves.
8. They tool little money (200 USD), not whole so that we won't be very aggressive.

Finally, villa atchara is just a 'villa', not properly managed by the owner family, they do not know how to offer security to the customers. DO NOT STAY here. We may lose more valuables! They are sharp enough to make a scene to deceive you!

They have no security. We left one day for tour. Our luggage lock is broken and 200 USD is stolen from moneybag inside luggage. Never stay here. Worst hotel ever. When we reported they said they didn't do this. But we locked the room so only they can access the room. Our luggage lock is permanently damaged.

Although extremely rare in my years of experience, very occasionally an unfortunate situation like this happens. Your review is highly misleading as our hotel is manned 24 hours, has CCTV and a safe in every room. It is hard for me to understand why you chose not to use the safe, especially for a large amount of cash that you say went missing. I would always use a safe, no matter where I was staying. Our hotel cannot be responsible for your decision not to use the safe provided. You showed me your broken lock on your suitcase, which I noticed was NOT a TSA approved lock. Therefore, during your various travels, any number of baggage security personnel would have been legally entitled to break open your case to inspect the contents (as happened to me recently). I am proud of our hotel and staff and our high Tripadvisor rating justifies this pride. I sincerely regret this incident and I hope the rest of your stay in Thailand was enjoyable. Regards, Villa Atchara

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights, and really enjoyed it. each and everyone of the staff from the manager, to the kitchen staff to the cleaners were such nice efficient and such pleasant people it made it even better. all the staff made a huge effort to provide a quality service and they achieved it! Well done :)
The hotel is SPOTLESS from the grounds to the room to the corners of the bathroom are very clean! :)
The breakfast is lovely - nice pancakes and coffee was my choice :) the location was perfect - near the beach and a nice walk to the centre but far away from the noise. The pool was really nice and the jacuzzi is a nice way to relax after a day shopping! Clean towels, and pool towels provided each day, and a nice soft bed!
Go and stay and experience it for yourself - you won't regret it!

We stayed for 2 weeks in June last year for my wife's 40th birthday. We had a party of 27 people and half stayed down the road at the Novotel. All of those people wished they had of stayed with us at Villa Atchara. The service, the food and the staff all first rate. They did a fantastic job catering for the party and I can't speak highly enough of Tanny, Parn and Nok. Great times and great stay. 12 months on and I wish I was there now!!

I agree with others - it was lovely. Yes it is popular with European travellers but I don't hang out with folks at the hotel so that doesn't bother me at all.

I tried to think of some things that would be helpful - and here they are!

Location - The hotel is near the Novotel (my taxi driver had no idea), up the laneway on the right hand side. Some pics are provided.

Town - the town is to the left. Turning right and going for stroll looking for some brekkie results in a long, hilly walk to Kamala. - ok so I should have asked or looked at a map :)

Scooter Hire - the lady near the hotel is friendly - but gave me a very hard time when I returned the scooter - trying to blame me for dents and scratches that I had not caused. I would not rent from her again.

Tours - the Amazing Canoe tour to James Bond island (pink brochure) has a price printed but you can book it for half that price from the agents down on the beach front. Think I paid 900 Baht. Shop around. BTW the tour was great!

Overall - was fine for me!

Hospitality is at its best at Villa Atchara. From the moment we walked in we were greeted like long lost friends and the staff continued to address us by our first names. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and the chats each day and night with the owners and staff were great. Great location - quiet end of Phuket with beach at end of street and only a 15-20 minute walk to the hustle & bustle of Bang la Road & markets. Mattresses a little too hard for our liking and rooms a little too light at night from outside lights but that would be our only complaint. This place is a real credit to Johan & Parn and their staff. We would not consider staying anywhere else when we return to Thailand. Only been home 2 days and so miss this place already.

The Fantasea Show is 17 km from Villa Atchara at the next main beach north. It will take about 30 mins to get there in a taxi which are available at the main road which is 2 minute walk from the Villa. I don't think there is a pick up but you can check at the Villa. You can hire bicycles in Phuket and Patong but you need to be careful with the traffic.
