The place is being demolished.
Too bad it was a very nice hotel.
Pop who worked at the bar was a great guy who made sure guests really enjoyed themselves.
The head of security was a super nice American with polish and bounce.
Sometimes you don't understand the logic of tearing down a fully functioning great hotel.

We spent a week at the hotel. We weren’t many guests and often had the entire pool area to ourselves. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful. When we found out our flight was quite late in the afternoon they allowed us to check-out late. The pool area is really nice and clean - so is the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was good with a wide selection. Mostly warm dishes, but also freshly cooked eggs in a variety of ways, pancakes, fresh fruit and so on. They even offered to cook you bacon. Big nestle coffee machine with multiple choices. The hotel is perfectly central within walking distance of the beach, Bangla road, shopping Center ect. The best food was found just outside the door with a nice, clean and quiet range of street food. We really enjoyed our time at the hotel and would recommend it to friends and family.

Response from Dutytharapatong, Duty Manager at Thara Patong Beach Resort & Spa
Responded 3 Sept 2012
Dear SHAHRAM S Thank you for posting a Resort review. We are glad you had a comfortable stay. The guest that most appreciates our Resort are people looking for a great location, safe and relaxing property with a tropical garden setting. We are not a big high rise building with a crowded small pool far from the beach. We are locating in the heart of Patong where the action is… lots of restaurants, shopping and the beautiful Patong Bay. Happy Travels! Sincerely, Bryan Duty Manager

I was excited to visit Phuket and looked at Tripadvisor reviews to help find a good and reasonably priced hotel. I came across Thara Patong and now feel like we were fooled by the hyped reviews.

Upon check in, reservation desk kept my original print travel itinerary even though the portion for the hotel was on page 1 only. We were then taken to our room (#1342) and what a disappointment. If that was the deluxe room I was afraid of what was the premier room. The room was VERY small, the shower area was filthy, the room was incredibly hot, the safe was broken and the toilet didn't work. We were told the AC would take about 10 minutes to cool the room and we were required to stay in the room while they sent someone to fix the toilet and safe. After a long flight the last thing we wanted was to stay in a hot room with no working toilet. We asked for a new room and they told they could not give us one. We took all our valuable belonging (cash, credit cards, passports) with us to the beach and left the room to speak with the manager.

We then spoke with the manager who took us for a walk and asked us to "cool off and let the Thailand spirit of mind easy the process". We went out for drinks, dinner and came back later at night. They had fixed the safe and the toilet worked most of the times (the flush button kept getting stuck this time).

The next day we were getting ready to leave to Christmas mass on a private car we booked and the AC started leaking, not just few drops but a full cup of water falling from the ceiling and onto our shoes which were on the floor right below the AC. We called front desk, explained the situation and told we could not wait as we were leaving for mass. They again had to send technical support to fix the AC. We were never switched to another room. At that point we were avoiding staying at the room at all times possible and counting the days to leave. On our last day I asked duty manager to return my itinerary copy that reservation had erroneously kept. Duty manager claimed he tried to contact us by calling our room but could not reach us. There was never a voice message in our telephone, or a print message from the manager in our room, or any other communication whatsoever from the hotel regarding all the problems we were facing.

On the third day we received a "reminder" for our tour that happened the day before. And the housekeeping staff left just 2 bath towels but none face or hand towel.

Service in the hotel also lacked a lot. As a foreigner myself I understand the difficulties of another language but I believe you should have a hotel staff trained in basic English, especially the front desk. Given all the problems in our room, we had problem communicating with the staff about the room issues, and the staff could not communicate with us either. The service at the restaurant by the pool was also terrible. A simple pineapple juice took over 20 minutes and the bar was empty. And the drinks were not great.

We never expected 5 star hotel treatment but I think that basic safe, toilet, and AC amenities should work well at a 3 star hotel.

I have traveled to different countries on a low budget and I really don't have very high expectations. But I had much better service and proper stay at various B&B and Inns than at Thara Patong.

BE CAREFUL with the hyped reviews. I regret staying at Thara Patong.

Dear BrazilNYC Thank you for your comment(s) as they keep us informed on a type of guest all Hotels & Resorts must service from time to time. Frankly speaking; we are quite shocked that TripAdvisor would allow such a bias titled comment “Don't believe the overhyped reviews”, to be posted. You ask fellow travelers not to believe the overwhelming good comments about our resort and service. BUT you ask your fellow travelers to believe you. We have never told any Valued Guest what to write. To discredit our Resort is one thing, but to discredit other guest comments is not accepted. We will not address your critique on hospitality and facilities as they are more argumentative, misleading and hurtful in nature than informative. However, let us quote TripAdvisor and read what they said about your comment. “We encourage travelers to take the whole of a property's reviews into account when judging it. If most other reviews are positive, travelers are likely to see a negative as a mere aberration”. tripadvisor.com Sincerely, Entire Management Team, Thara Patong Beach Resort & Spa

Great location close to beach (across street) and within easy walking distance of all of Patong's shopping, restaurants and nightlife! Yet still peaceful and quiet as all the rooms face the pools in the middle of the hotel, and are tucked back from the main roads behind other buildings. Nice spa. Excellent large pool! Fitness room has very limited equipment but OK for a mini workout. Good tour office in lobby that can arrange wide range of activities and also rental cars (at prices lower than major US companies). Restaurant good for breakfast, though I didn't eat dinner there (wasn't very busy, service looked dis-interested, and there are so many other places close by - actually the restaurant of the cheaper hotel next door beside the parking lot is excellent & inexpensive too - I ate there 3 times!). Pay extra for the deluxe rooms - much nicer, larger, newer and well worth the difference. I plan to go back.

When we arrived to the reception to check out guy at the reception accused us of stealing 2 umbrellasand iaundry bag from our room. we Tried to explain to him that we had no umbrellas or laundry bag in our room .he called us liars and told us to empty the bags in the lobby so he can make sure that we hid the items in a suitcase. at this time the Lobby was filled with people staring at us and even though we tried to explain we did not steal anything we had to open the suitcases . Afterthey didnt found anything in our luggage they told us that if we will not pay 1000 baht for each umbrella and another 300 baht for laundry hamper, he will call the police. at time a taxi driver was waiting to drive us to the airport and we decided to take our bags and go away from this terrible hotel .
stayed 4 nights in november .the room (deluxe) was booked durring 3 weeks beafore we arrived to the hotel my credit card was already charged so we had no chanch escaping from this horor .
the rooms are very old ,not clean and the mosquitoes are Hugh , breakfast poor, the staff were unfriendly also we had a random encounter with a rat. The location is nice .we will ever ever again will stay at this hotel and we plan to warn all our friends .

only complaint is that the desk staff spoke very poor english(compared to many others in same area) and any matter that needed attention took much longer than needed to convey while you are on holidays, overall a great place to stay and will book again when staying in Patong

We are Australian family of four and booked for 5 nights ending 26 January. We requested two adjacent rooms with king size bed for couple and two beds for teen age kids, facing pool side, with breakfast and wifi, away from noise at night. Nice location to patong beach, about 5 minutes walk with good choices of restaurant along the way. 20 minutes walk to shopping mall Jung Ceylon Robinsons, passing to Bangla road (bar area which comes alive at night). Even the Tantawan restaurant at the resort had live band/music at night, where we enjoyed dancing from own requested songs. Food were amazing like pad thai, sweat and sour pork and seafood. An awesome experience indeed😍. Thanks to very friendly staff, all our requests were granted and experience worth cherishing, we recommend this resort to anyone who ask. We check the internet prices but booked through Flight Center.

Whilst my tan is now fading, my fond memories of the Thara Patong are still firmly imprinted in my mind! My partner and I stayed at the Thara Patong (July 2013) for 12 nights and we had a fabulous time! I trawled various websites before finally settling on the Thara Patong and was not disappointed. The location was excellent - on the other side of the road from the main beach road - so a quick dart through the (light) traffic and you're on the sand! The beach was nice at this time of year - not the crystal blue waters you get in their high season as it was cloudy most days - but the water was clear and just the right temperature. It did get a bit windy on the beach in the afternoon but if you got there mid morning and stayed till early afternoon, it was just perfect and 100THB (per sun lounge) well spent! We arrived at the hotel late at night and were told upon check-in that they had to upgrade us due to room availability - so we ended up in a Deluxe room with a little patio that looked straight on to one of the pools. Once the doors were closed we couldn't hear kids slashing in the pool all hours of the morning and, apart from the usual noises of tuk-tuk's with blaring music going past the hotel every now and then, it was pretty quiet. The room itself was spacious, clean, and the air con pumped, which was our saving grace some days! The room was cleaned every day with fresh towels and linen provided - and on the days we were sick (only 1 or 2) and stayed in the room, they were happy to come back later in the day or just give us fresh towels. Breakfast was good - they have the usual stuff - and of course, the omelets are the die for! One of those with a piece of toast kept us going all day most of the time. The best bit is that the Thara Patong is walking distance to just about everything that you could need. Bangla Rd is 5 minutes down the road, the beach is across the road, there is a Family Mart 2 doors down and heaps of great places to eat (Thai Taco has THE BEST food and is about 3 minutes walk from the back entrance towards Banga Rd). My partner has just been invited to a buck's weekend in Patong in a month and he is suggesting that they stay at the Thara Patong! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to everyone!
