Truth be told I never knew (although heard the name a few times) of this hotel till a mutual friend mentioned it and I decided to explore their website. I liked the images I saw on the website and decided that it would make a good weekend escape (despite being in the craziness of Patong).

Lo behold, it lived up to expectations :) I must say that I was truly amazed at the quiet of the place.

It is well located just on the outskirt of 'crazy central Patong' or Bangla zone as I call it. I must have driven hundreds of time past the main entrance yet never really saw it. It has a discreet alley entrance that leads up a hill where the hotel is located with great views of Patong town and the ocean.

It has several pools at various wings but be mindful that not all are 'swimming pools'. Do not get caught booking a 'pool access' as this basically means a knee-deep plunge pool only. I made this blunder but was efficiently assisted by the FOM (Front Office Manager) whom is the 'mutual friend' to another room, which I really wanted. The rooms are nice, clean with lovely views.

They have a decent gym, a game room and even a ping pong room. Cool ☺

They have a restaurant on the 5th floor that overlooks 3 pools (small, medium & large) and you get ocean views from there too. The breakfast spread was ‘ok’ and the food good. The restaurant serves as a lounge too in the evening. Nice place to chill out except I thought that musicians played too loud and dance songs too (couldn’t really have a decent conversation). Toned down songs & music would compliment the evenings more as the outlet serves a dual role (dining & lounge).

After a long time I splurged on a massage package within a hotel (for no other reason but being too exorbitantly priced for my needs). It was a blissful experience! The therapist spoke adequate English, knew her trade very professionally. I will say that she was well trained and exceeded my expectations, which I define as ‘professional spa/massage service’.

I will share as briefly as possible a very positive service & sales mindedness at the spa that truly impressed me (especially in Thailand). My spa package included 1 hour Swedish body massage, 30 min foot massage & 30 min facial massage. It just so happens that facial therapy is really my cup of tea and thus a dilemma (as it’s a package), so I asked them if I could ‘change’ the inclusions of the package slightly to exclude the facial for an extended Swedish or foot massage .. Anxiously. Almost 98/100 times I’ve tried this ‘change of package’ scenario; answer invariably is NO! To my utter delight (without hesitation, confusion or any form of negativity), I received a reply ‘1 hour Swedish massage + 1 hour foot massage can?). Absolutely YES. Kudos to the spa team, you were great!

I am happy to give my stamp of approval for this hotel. The price is pretty reasonable for what you get.

My wife & I stayed for 10 nights. Upon arrival the room was nice except for the extended wooden bed support platform which we frequently smashed our shins into. After complaining the hotel did grind off the square corners so it would'nt hurt so much. We soon enquired about day tours through Jita Tours who are located just next to the lobby. My wife was interested in prices, value & generally wanting to understand the best way of how to spend our budget but the woman working for Jita Tours was rude and offensive to my wife. I was also charged additional fee for using MasterCard Cash Passport for the trip so try to avoid Cash Passport by Travelex too. Hotel food was nice but expensive for what you get. Much cheaper and better value eating out instead of in the hotel. The layout of the hotel is a bit cumbersome but by far the biggest disadvantage are the hotel pools that don't have sun beds next to them. From my experience plenty of good priced hoteIs with equal facilities better poolside sun bed layouts. staff generally friendly and quality of breakfast was high.

Responded 1 July 2014
Dear Michael I, Warmest Greetings from Sea Sun Sand Resort & Spa – Phuket – Thailand. Thank you very much for choosing to stay our resort during your recent visit to Phuket and for taking time to write a comment on Tripadvisor.com. It is disappointing to learn that you had encountered an unpleasant experience during your stay with us. Jita Tours is not managed by the hotel as they are just renting the space only, but we will definitely point this matter out and discuss with them to make sure that such offensive acts will not repeat to our guests in the future. However, since Jita Tours is not a part of our company, we cannot really force them not to charge any additional fee for using MarsterCard Cash Passport as this is beyond our control. But for our hotel we accept all kind of major credit cards without additional fee. Regarding the food prices, we have actually just revised them, definitely not being overpriced compare to other hotels, but on the contrary, now much less compared to the other hotels or resorts of the same category in Patong area. For business point of view, however, it will not be possible to lower them to the level of street side bars or mini marts as resort running costs are much higher, and when you’re looking at it closely, the services provided really justify the differences. Your comments are valuable indeed and highly appreciated by us. Despite the unpleasant experiences, we hope you had enjoyed your recent holidays in Thailand. Warm Regards, Supachart Samuhatanakul General Manager

I read so many reviews before booking the Sea Sun Sand, so whats true and whats not:

1- Long walk to room: Actually you will have to walk around 6 minutes to reach your room if booked in Bloc C but unless you are old it was not a big deal.

2- Staff not friendly: not at all, staff is very friendly, especially the receptionists.

3- staff doesn't speak English: the staff English was better than most Thai people.

4- Breakfast: Breakfast was fine, coffee, tea, corn flaxes, crackers, cheese, rice, chicken, croissant, bread, jam, fruits, eggs,....

5- walls are so thin: kind of true, but again not that big deal, we barley heard noises.

6- Room Cleaning: this is a 10/10.

7- Pools: Three pools, one of them is private, pools are not that big but clean.

8- Mosquito: Did not face any.

Overall idea of the Hotel: it is a good hotel, we did not face any major disappointments, fair enough for the price.

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel on our holiday during June/July 2015. We were picked up by our transfer from Buffalo Tours and taken to the hotel.

Now I had an image of what the hotel looked like from the brochure. We stopped at the hotel and I thought, this can't be right. There was a small allyway and a massage parlour. We got out and the glass doors to the hotel was opened and some of the staff came to fetch our bags. We walked into the foyer and I was struck by the stark contrast to the outside. Inside it was nice and cool and everything looked modern and trendy. After a quick check-in we were taken to our room by a staff member from reception.

Now I had no idea how big this hotel was. The hotel is built up towards the mountain, comprising of a lot of buildings interconnected by elevators. We got room C401 in the last building. This meant 3 elevators to our room. The walk along the way is beautiful. At one point they have a whole walkway that consist of orchid flowers that makes up a natural wall to the walkway. Stepping out of our 2nd elevator I got the picture from the brochure. The big infinity swimming pool, a view over Patong and a beautiful restaurant area. We then went up the 3rd elevator to our room.

Room C401 was beautiful. There is a big bed, couch, big flat screen TV on the wall, kettle with coffee and tea, hairdryer (which made my girlfriend very happy), a large walkin shower with one of those rainfall shower heads and a nice big bath. The room also has a balcony, but there was not very much of a view from that side of the hotel, but then again it is so hot ouside that you rather keep to the air conditioned inside. One feature that was amazing to me was that the bed had a blue LED strip light below it that could be turned on and off. At night we would leave this on and one could still go to the bathroom without bumping into something, and it looked really cool.

Breakfast in the mornings is good with a repeating menu every other day. Here there are a couple of things that one should try. They have the most amazing little croissants every morning that melts in your mouth. Another must try is the small pancakes or french toast with some cinnamon sugar. I have no idea how they get cinnamon sugar to taste like that, but it is amazing.

The pool area is beautiful and one part of the pool has something of a jacuzzi effect that you can sit in to relax. The Sunset Bar has lots of Happy hours where you may buy one and get one free cocktail.

During the week that we stayed there was speciality nights at the restaurant. This was on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday was a pizza night, with buffet selection of pizza, Wednesday was a Italian pasta/pizza night and Friday was a Thai food buffet night. Booking for these is essential.

The hotel also has a travel desk that one may use for booking daily excursions. We made frequent use of this for our trips. You may be able to get better pricing for trips in town, but after our 3rd booking the travel desk started giving us discounts. I also like to book at a place that I know I can go back to if I run into any difficulties.

The location of the hotel is also very good. You can just about walk anywhere. The hotel does have a shuttle service, but we never used it as everything was in walking distance. There is a couple of nice restaurants close to the hotel as well as a massage parlour next to the hotel.

As part of our travel package we got a 3000Thb resort credit that could be used on either the Spa, restaurant or laundery service. We made use of the Sarocha Spa at the hotel. And what an amazing Spa this is!! Booking is essential. My girlfriend went for the Thai massage and I selected the aromatherapy massage. This was amazing, the two staff members that did the whole treatment made us feels so relaxed and welcome. After the treatment I was so relaxed I had difficulty getting back up the stairs to the spa reception. My legs just did not want to work. :)

Now for the best part!! We booked the cooking class advertised in the elevator of the hotel. This will cost you about 1500Thb per person. The morning of the class we got a reminder call and we met the hotel chef and another staff member in the restaurant. They took us with the minibus from the hotel to the local market and we were shown all the different types of food, meat, herbs and seafood that is used in Thai food. When we got back, we returned to restaurant and a whole cooking area was setup for us. The chef then instructed us step by step on how to prepare the 3 Thai dishes that we selected. This was so much fun!! Me and my girlfriend each received a certificate for the class and the recipes for the meals that we prepared, plus a cooking cap and lots of beautiful photo's.

The only negative point that I found during our whole stay was that the walls of the rooms was quite thin. On our first 2 nights we had some noisy neighbours, that found it funny in slamming their room doors and having their kids running around and screaming. Luckily this was only for 2 nights after which we had peace and quite for the rest of our stay.

Some tips for those that want to stay here:
BE FRIENDLY!!! The hotel staff are amazing and very friendly people. So many times I saw guests that behaved inappropriately and I could only shake my head. When we were greeted every morning by hotel staff we return the greeting and smiled. The hotel staff would at times stop us and ask us about a trip that we did or how our day was, just because of this. This was so amazing, at times it felt that they made us feel more part of Thailand and almost a part of a big family. Already missing everyone at the hotel.

This hotel is big. If you do not want to walk long distances to your room. Ask for a room closer to ground level. On our first day we got lost finding our room, but it turned into another adventure. Walking along the walkways we met lots of people. Either walking along of riding in the elevator. Love the Aussies, cause as soon as you start chatting to them, it is like having been next door neighbours for ever!!

Enjoy yourself!! Your are on holiday!!

My partner and I just spent the last 10 nights at Sea Sun Sand as part of our honeymoon and we loved it so much we contemplated not leaving to come back to reality.

From the minute we arrived to a cool drink and towel for check-in to our checkout we had nothing but a blissful time with zero problems.
The staff all through the hotel were nothing but pleasant and helpful all of the time, and always made you feel welcome with saying hello/good morning/afternoon, etc any time they saw you.

We stayed in a deluxe pool side room and recommend it to anybody wanting to stay here.
I highly recommend coupling your room in with the buffet breakfast and also airport transfers. It just made life so much easier (especially the transfers).

People have commented on the beds being rock hard and the walls paper thin, and I'm going to address these points.
The walls, yes they were thin but my partner, who took earplugs as she is a very light sleeper, never even used a single pair. It does help that the neighbours on one side were so silent we actually thought nobody was there although for about the last 6 or 7 nights the other neighbours were a little noisy at times but it certainly wasn't so bad one couldn't sleep. You would have to get some seriously selfish and noisy neighbours for it to be any issue.
The beds, yes they are quite firm but you can request a matress topper which will apparently make a world of difference, but we didn't bother. I even have spine issues and am awaiting surgery and the beds were not a problem. So don't complain about them, if they're too hard just get a matress topper, problem solved.

The breakfast buffet was included and we loved getting a tummy full of bacon and eggs (along with fruits, other breakfast meats, various local dishes and other Asian and Indian dishes, and even some pastries). All of the food was always nice and fresh and the only problem we could find with it that perhaps a few different selections from day to day wouldn't be a bad thing (seemed to always be the same dishes).

Many people have commented on the walk and multiple lifts to get to their rooms. The hotel is built in sections up a hill so it is unavoidable. Our room required some walking and 2 seperate lifts. It was maybe 3-4 minutes to get too/from our room to the lobby, which was never a problem even with my back problems (I have a lot of trouble walking for very long and never once struggled with it).
The lifts can be a problem in certain buildings at the daily checkout time as it fills up fast with people and suitcases, so keep that in mind if trying to get on a lift to go out at 11:30am-noon.
The hotel is also located approx 1.5km's from Bang La road... Which I did manage to walk a couple of times which is only about 10-15 minutes at my sluggish shuffle rate, so it's easily doable if you feel like it.

I can only pick on 2 faults with the hotel personally. The pools close early (was 7pm for us in October, so might be later in peak season months?) which given the fact it was quite warm and crazy humid seemed a little silly, especially since the pool straight out of our room was more of a private pool. That being said we did note that the pool maintenance guy wasn't out there doing any chlorine etc until around 1am on quite a few nights, so we just used the pool as we felt.
The other fault would be the hotel shuttle bus down to Jungcylon shopping centre. There was 3 shuttles a day (10am, 2pm and 5pm). It would be good if there was another 2 or 3 shuttles per day.
Transport was never a problem though as there was always a taxi or 2 and a tuk tuk parked right out the front doors (same guys all the time). Generally a 200 baht trip into town but if you barter hard, and if business is slow, you can push for 150 baht (I did a few times but most drivers don't want any part of it... Would be much harder to do in peak season as work wouldn't be as slow for them then, plus I wouldn't be surprised if the prices went up a little for peak season).
All taxi/tuk tuk drivers knew exactly where Sea Sun Sand is located so the return trip is no issue.

There are plenty of services just outside of the hotel. Laundry services, family Mart and 7eleven, chemists, massage places, a few restaurants, some scooter hire and a handful of tour places too. We booked our tours from just across the road at Patong No.1 Service, and the lady there (I'm terrible with names and cannot remember hers unfortunately) was nothing but mega helpful. The hotel does have a tour desk too but we never used it as it was busy when we first went to book, then just stuck with what we knew.

It can be a touch difficult to cross the road at times (morning and afternoon peak hours mean plenty of traffic on the road), but it's fine to go half way and wait on the line until you can cross the other half. We never had any close calls doing this. But do so at your own discretion/risk.

All in all I would have to give Sea Sun Sand a 10/10 for service, facilities and value. We are already talking about another trip to Thailand and have said that if we go back to Patong we will be staying with Sea Sun Sand again.

Thank you Sea Sun Sand for helping to make our honeymoon so great :-D

Dear Mat P, We would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us during your recent visit to Phuket and for taking the time to write your comment on www.TripAdvisor.com. It is our great pleasure to know that you had a wonderful stay and will return again on your next holiday to Phuket. All staff members here are very happy to know that our guests are satisfied with their hard work provided to you, our valued guests; and we promise to keep up this excellent service at all times. We are truly pleased to be a good part of your holiday in Phuket and so happy to read that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay at our resort. We would continually try to improve on our services, however, to allow more time to the pool facility is very difficult due to noise factor as some people do not respect other guests at all – especially when they are intoxicated. It will be quite alright if you take your swim quietly after the closing time as long as there is no complaint from others. Our free shuttle service to the shopping centre is operated accordingly to the availability of our drivers. It is not possible to stretch more shuttles as we need them to service our guests to the airport and do several other tasks as well. I hope you’ll understand. It was certainly our great pleasure to be at your service and we all look forward to welcoming you again to Sea Sun Sand Resort & Spa in the near future. Thank you again for your feedback and we are looking forward to be at your service again the near future. Best regards, Supachart Samuhatanakul General Manager

Hotel was closed that time but they sold us a room.
We bought rooms in that hotel but they were still building that hotel. They put us in 2 star hotel far from area that we wanted to stay. No one cared about us. They said that is not our problem that hotel is still under construction.
THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.

There is only one good point about this hotel : Room Comfort at D504 was awesome!

However there are a few bad points that I would like to address;
1) Very terrible service from the Front Desk, not welcoming, rude and my needs weren't catered to. Requested for a small birthday deco in the room upon check in but nothing was done.
2) My fiance had a deep wound on this left shin caused by a broken tile in the swimming pool, and in which it had to be stitched up at the clinic. The staff wasn't even responsible or offered additional help. First Aid Box was as good as nothing, staff had no idea how to do first aid. Moments later, they left us alone by the side of the pool with such ignorance.
3) Pre-requested for a late check out a day before, but they chased us out at 12pm on the check out day itself. I told them that the room I booked for included a late checkout at 2pm, but they refused to acknowledge. I had to make a trip down to the front desk and explained to them personally. I was furious that she looked so irritated and wasn't even helpful.

I am from the hotel-line myself but I must say that the staff over at the front desk were not service-oriented, nor attentive.

Dear Sea Sun Sand Management, I really appreciate to hear a response from you with regards to this. I am a frequent traveller to Phuket, but I am utterly disappointed with your hotel service. Room comfort and hotel ambience was excellent, service was truly upsetting.

This hotel is the worst hospitality experience I have experienced in a long time. Here's what's wrong with it: there is no hot water in on whole sector of the hotel. All staff at the front desk are on their mobile phones and giggling however none take accountability to assist guests. We saw a guest being berated for the demand of money for a towel after the hotel lost the guests towel - the police were called and a scene made. The hotel buildings are a maze and required 4 elevators to get to our room. Don't expect any communication between departments. This hotel is a complete waste of money and no where near worthy of a 4 star rating.

I never usually write reviews but before i visited sea sun sand i saw that the reviews on here wasn't too great which is really disappointing because the staff were lovely! The food was lush, especially the buffet breakfast which has every food imaginable! Its in a nice location...sure you step out the lobby and there's a main road but we found that most hotels there were the same. Easy access to the beach, shops and all the wonderful attractions phuket has to offer and I heard its not as cheap as most places but I went on a number of trips and excursions and ate well and only spent £600 in two weeks, however if you drink i could imagine it would be a lot more (i only had a couple of beers hehe)but overall it was an amazing holiday a the people of phuket are amazing too! Dont believe the bad reviews i can only imagine extremely fussy people have written them! And another brilliant thing is that the hotel is far enough away from bangla road (the strip) to not have huligans staying there and you cant hear any noise but its a half hour walk if you wanna go there!and it is fab!! Thankyou sea sun sand for making our holiday very memorable and hopefully we will be back one day!!!!xxxxxxx
