I booked a deal though Agoda at 500 baht per night and was not expecting too much, however, I was pleasantly surprised. Whilst the Lammai Hotel has undoubtably seen better days it still has a lot to offer. Strategically located, within easy walking distance of all the main attractions, shopping, bars, restaurants, night cubs etc 500 baht per night represented tremendous value. My room had all the requirements for a comfortable stay. Fitted out in typical old Thai style the room was spacious, airy and clean. Everything worked as it should. The shower is in the bath, not particular to my liking but quite common in older hotels. Plenty of cupboard space, room safe, and an area to set up a laptop. WIFI worked ok as did the AC. Tea and coffee making amenities provided. The balcony was a good size to sit and watch the world go by. Only real issue in the room was the bed which was not really comfortable, far too firm for my liking. Hotel staff were friendly and there is a little bar attached to the front of the hotel where you can enjoy a drink. Overall a pleasant stay and for those on a budget a good option, especially considering the location.

So I stayed here a week. I have good news and I have bad news. Good news —The room was fine, housekeeping everyday, bed sheets and pillow cases changed everyday, a/c was good, hot water showers were good, 2 free bottles of water daily. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Bad news — I think the room is overpriced for what you get. During my 7 days I did check other hotels nearby with the same quality for 25% less in cost. The wifi is not a secure network and is spotty. I had a Thai SIM card, used that exclusively in the hotel. What was the most disturbing during my stay, the staff. I checked in late, around 8pm, when I arrived the guy at the front desk just looked at me as if wondering what I wanted. When I said I was checking in, he said Oh. Looked up my reservation, and gave me the key to the room. No instructions, no welcome, no nothing. In the 7 days of me coming and going several times a day, not one friendly face. Not one good morning. Not one hello. They obviously are not happy in their job. Thailand is supposedly The Land of Smiles. Well the employees at this hotel apparently didn’t get the memo. For this reason, I would not stay here again.

I wanted a cheap hotel in Patong over Christmas, so I booked 3 different ones over 10 nights to hedge my bets. The first I stayed at was Sino House which is literally over the road (or lane in this case) from this hotel. I found that although it had far less facilities, I preferred the simplicity of Sino House (see separate review).

I think I'd love Lamai Hotel more if I was 22 again and reincarnated as an American frat boy.

By that I mean its sort of got a 24-7 party feel. Which is great when you are 22, but this old fart just wants peace and quiet. Its just got so much happening, i.e. it has a street front bar and restaurant which contribute to that frat house feel, also a 5th floor rooftop garden that could do with a pool (good view though), and an excursions/day trip desk, a massage shop and scooter hire.

And in room it has a computer with very slow internet, (but free nonetheless) , great blackout curtains for sleeping during the day after a hard night of partying. A huge range of not over priced drinks in the bar fridge, a huge LCD and DVD player. But the icing on the cake for me was a 4ft wide painting of a tasteful yet slightly erotic nude in a gold gilt frame. Maybe they lifted it from Imelda Marcos' private collection. Maybe its to put you in the mood for a massage which is only a stone's throw away. There is no joiner fee either at this establishment, so if you meet the bar girl of your dreams, she can stay o-n without penalty.

There were only two things I wasn't crazy about. One is the old sour-puss who mans the front desk. She's a liability and unless she owns the place, should be retired immediately, the rest of the staff I dealt with seemed fine. And the second are the lockers that are located in the foyer. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't like everyone being able to see me access my valuables. The flip side is that yes, they are in plain view, so hopefully, that's a deterrent. Personally, I prefer the in-room safes that I can set the combo on, not that I think they cant be easily cracked. But out of sight out of mind....

It also has a nice clean elevator. so good for oldies who don't want to carry bags upstairs. Mind you, the porter was only too happy to help, and you don't have to give him a $5 tip, 20 baht will make him smile.

Would I stay here again? yes, quite readily, but perhaps only if my other preferences (Deevana, Patong Beach Lodge, Sino House) were booked out.

I don't have any photos to add, as a google search will provide a plethora of accurate depictions of all this hotel has to offer. (I got exactly what was represented to me on bookings.com)

Booked this hotel primarily due to the location and the star ratings ended regreting this decision the room was not great torn sheets AC postion that was directed at the bed mean you kept waking up freezing or roasting as you turned it off in frustration hotel was old and looked it. The A/C water outlet was a pipe that was run into the bathroom that just dripped onto the bath. Torn or worn sheets room was clean and cleaning staff helpfull. Restraunt only used a couple of times which I wasnt impressed with and ate out the rest of the times so cannot really comment.
Reception staff I found unhelpfull, abrupt and had a couldnt be bothered attitude which left a overall bad impression.
Airport pick up never arrived no apology.
Wont be going back the hotel is old and looks it there are far better places to stay for the price I paid with much friendlier environment.
How this gets a three star is beyond me.

The hotel has a good location , but the staff is not kind at all , you can't ask them anything , they don't even say hello .

The food is not good and is not cheap .

The room is not that clean and some of the rooms don't include breakfast .

For sure you can get a better hotel for the same price .

I rented a bike from them for 1 day. Never again. OK only 200 baht but for entry level scooter that is pretty normal price. The brakes were terrible, and the engine kept cutting out, which made it dangerous to ride in traffic. When I took it back and complained, the guy at the desk simply said what do you expect for 200 baht? I said a bike that was at least road-worthy, particularly on an island with steep hills and heavy traffic. He didn't care. In the UK, they would be prosecuted, but the best you can do in Thailand is Trip Advisor so don't rent from them as they don't care if people have accidents or not on dangerous bikes. By the way, I have a full motorcycle licence going on 25 years and a Thai Driving Licence so I am not a novice.

worse staff ever saw in my life. Me and my wife had rented a bike for 4 days, we were said that we can give the bike on 4th day before 7pm by one of the staff member on duty. On forth day we went to surrender the bike around 5pm. Other staff member was not only rude but abusive and blackmailed to keep the passport if we did not give her extra money. We gave the name of the staff lady Visa (who was not available at that time) and told the staff to call her and ask. But greedy staff of lamai wanted money which at the end we had to give. Dont cheat your guests people. My wife was so angry that she wanted to slap the staff lady who didnot have manners to talk to so called guests. BIG SHAME

I decided to stop at this hotel for their low room prices. I would say that the room is as per the price so no big surprised on this aspect. But, the bad surpised was coming from the staff which was surprisingly not friendly at all. I tasted the food once and it was not very good.
It is usual practice to give complimentary water bottles in hotels, not here i've been charged for small mineral water bottles and also nescafe.
To summarize, I would say if you dont have any money and you want to stay in patong, that's a right place but you need a bit more, At least a smile, Avoid it

We have just returned from a months stay at this hotel.
Booked because it was central to all things and each room had a balcony. Booked on the advice of local Flight Centre.
Unfriendly customer reception on arrival. Hotel very dated although it appeared clean. Balcony narrow and unusable and dirty.
Permanent wi fi was poor and unreliable. Wi fi broke down and hotel appeared reluctant to reconnect informing us it might be unavailable for at least five days. After regular complaints it was reconnected four days later.
Mid week as a result of attack by blood letting insects in large numbers a room change was asked for. Response to the request was not received with good grace although once holiday rep was contacted it was achieved.
The room was fumigated although mattresses were left on main stairway for duration of our stay. Room was cleaned every day and clean threadbare towels left in place.
Hotel not cheap by any standards.
Prices tended to have 4per cent stuck on for use of credit card 3per cent local tax and 3per cent plus service charge.
Much better accommodation in same locality and cheaper.
Roof terrace untidy and well past its best.
