This was probably our best accommodation in Thailand. Bungalows directly on the river, nice terrace with hammocks and great river view - this all only for 150B per night - that was great relax there. Also very friendly owner.

Yes, this guesthouse has been around for a long time and it is not "up to date" on all things interior wise. However, where it lacks in decor and/or modern fittings it makes up for in charm, natural beauty and friendliness. I stayed 1 month in the basic double room. For people who said the bathroom is dirty, its not dirt but a calcium buildup from the water. Other bathrooms in Kanchanaburi have it. The bathrooms are clean and on par with the facilities at popular guesthouses in the area. I haven't seen any cockroaches or spiders in my room, but if I did it would not be a big deal because they're everywhere in this country! I have however enjoyed the beautiful monitor lizards, twig cafish and other rarer river fish and birds. The sunset is one of the best I've seen. The place is also quiet and doesn't seem to attract a particular crowd of people known for their "nighttime antics". The family that runs it couldn't be more friendly. All in all, you get what you pay for. This is one of the cheapest guesthouses in the area. If you want a room with fancy, western interiors expect to pay a lot more. If you do want to feel like you're actually staying in Thailand with a genuine, non-intrusive family, it won't get much better than this.

I was looking for a cheap and beautiful place place to stay and River Guesthouse perfectly fit my expectations. The bugalow's are situated on the river kwai. Surrounded by blooming lotus flowers. If you want to go for a swim, the water is clean and totaly environmental friendly. I totally enjoyed chilling in my hamac on my balcony, watching the sun rise and set. The owner is a friendly and truely charming interesting person, who cooks delicious food as well.

I was looking for somewhere on the river and found this place . The room was 250 for a friend and myself . the owner she is amazing . truly warm hearted with great stories . She helped whenever she can and gave me much advice. her brother is always smiling with a warm welcome and always a good morning . I stayed here 2 nights then she let us leave our bags when we went to stay at erawan for a night and then we stayed here again. This place is exactly what I needed after leaving the north to go south and feeling blue . the place brought me back to feeling strong and happy . I didn't go swimming but I heard you can . If you come to kanchanaburi stay here . There's a amazing night market not far and if you want a bar there are plenty on the Main Street with live music and smiling people

what started out to be a fleeting visit to Kanchanaburi turned out to be a 3 week holiday at River guesthouse. it was just what my girlfriend and i were looking for, a lazy little chilled out spot on the river. The staff there were lovely and full of stories and useful information. The location was perfect, near to the centre and lots of little street stalls and temples and it was also hidden from all this, so we had the peace and tranquility of the river, while lying in our hammocks. Great place, can't recommend it enough.

Very nice people own this place, but it is leading to abandon (no services, woodwalk not really safe). That's too bad. The view is very nice and quiet, that's the best point. But you can find cheaper and better places around.

We took a room for two person and pay 800 baht. The room was basic with only a bed, toilet and cold shower. The room was full of dust, spiderwebs and cockroaches.
This is the worst guesthouse we've ever had and we didnt sleep at all that night.
Next day we found another guesthouse, about 300 m far from this one, and just for 600 baht.

I stayed for two nights in this guesthouse, after having shopped around ca ten other guest houses. The location and the way the huts were placed on the water charmed me immediately. Very friendly owner, impressive how he organises everything by himself! The room (had one of the boats with aircon) were basic, but nicely decirated and clean. of course there are animals around (geckos-love them, a mouse-don't love them so much, but more important swifts and bats who come out racing over the water at sunset-in one word incredible!), which only makes you feel closer to nature. I could hang around in my hammock for hours and had quite a few little moments of happiness. When back in kanchanaburi, will definitely revisit!

I stayed here for 3 nights with my friend and my son.
We found this on the internet and headed for it as it was on the river Kwai, we headed down some stairs to the river and the staff were friendly and very helpful.
The rooms were upon viewing very basic and the on suite bathroom had a hole in the floor so the shower water could run away!
We were all attacked by mosquitoes and my son was very badly attacked.
The guest house was however very good and decided to stay all 3 nights anyway.
The location could not be beaten!!!
And the staff were very very good.
I would stay again.

We stayed here for 4 nights in total sandwiched around a trip to Elephants World, and it was an experience!
This was the first quintessentially Thai place we stayed in during our trip in Thailand. The location is stunning - huts built on stilts right onto the river. It had been rebuilt 6 years ago due to destruction caused by the rainy season, and I think it is fair to say the decoration is an ongoing process!!
There are two choices of room, we arrived and booked the basic rooms with a fan - however the sweltering heat caused us to plump straight away for a switch to the air con bungalows that jut out into the waterway. The extra 50ish baht was well worth it, as it was slightly less basic. It also had a lovely balcony which was treated to fabulous sunsets, and you are welcome to fish.
Now let's not beat around the bush, this is basic. The bathroom is basic, the bed is just about comfortable, even the path to the front door was an adventure. But all these things had buckets of character; an unforgettable experience, increased by the daily marauding black and yellow monitor lizards.
As a whole, I would give a deserving 3 star rating to this guesthouse, but the extra star is happily given for the charming, smiling and helpful owner (you won't forget him). I would definitely return to this tranquil guest house.
Would also note in response to other reviews that we had no creepy crawly night guests, and found the rooms surprisingly clean, bar the odd cobweb.
