It’s not for everyone - if you love big resorts with many pools, multiple restaurants, kids clubs etc then this wouldn’t be your style. It’s also not fancy or 5* but we aren’t into those sorts of places generally so it’s perfect for us.
Book direct via the website. You can now book via Booking but it’s more expensive.
Pros:
Amazing value for money
Beautiful gardens
Beachfront and walking distance to many bars and restaurants
Lovely staff - most still here from our first visit 9 years ago
Very reasonably priced food at the restaurant
Cons:
These are negatives that might be deal breakers for some but don’t worry us.
Pool bar has never been in operation - they will bring food and drinks to the pool though
No buffet breakfast and breakfast generally not included
All of the above don’t worry us at all. I like that breakfast is freshly cooked to order rather than a buffet and I love that there is no waste.
We have stayed at many hotels in our years travelling to Thailand and this is our favourite. There is just something about it that feels comfortable and homely. The staff are so lovely and remember us even when we haven't been for a few years.
We always stay in the garden bungalows. They are a good size with excellent bathrooms and have a little deck out the front. Family have stayed in the hotel type rooms too and while they aren't as new they are large and super good value.
Having stayed in Bang Niang a few times and here multiple times I think this is our preferred location.

The hotel is directly on the beach and has deckchairs facing the sea. Of course, as in many hotels, you have to be up to get space but it is possible, contrary to what I had read in some opinions.
The swimming pool is very pleasant with a lovely view of the sea.
We stayed in a garden bungalow. Perfect ! In the middle of a beautiful garden, the room is simple but pleasant and functional. The bathroom is large with separate shower and toilet.
We had problems with our air conditioning, the staff is responsive and does everything to be pleasant for you.
The hotel restaurant is pleasant, with a sea view. The dishes are good but a little less qualitative than in town. The breakfast is good value for money.
The hotel is a few minutes walk from the city center. It’s perfect for going out to eat, have a drink or go shopping.
To conclude, it’s a hotel that we loved and to which we will return with great pleasure every time we come to Khaolak!
Looking forward to next time!😉

Service with a smile , always!!
Best part was the buggy to the supermarket at the top of the street, free just ask at reception and they will take you there and call from the supermarket to get picked up.
Awesome beach to swim in with warm water in early December, pool a bit cool. Plenty of sun loungers around the beach.
The gardens are beautiful, so so well maintained.
Recommend the garden bungalows, ours still had a view of the sea.
Tip: bring mosquito repellent , there are a lot of mosquitos around.

I am sad to say that the shortage of sun loungers and small beach tables, and the problem with people reserving them 24 hours a day spoilt what should have been a great holiday. This meant that at 6.30am before sunrise and while it is still dark, there are only 5-10 sun loungers on the beach available for use. I have attached photos taken at 9.00pm to demonstrate the problem.
Unfortunately we had to move to another beach bungalow for the last 3 days, was quite annoying (we had already booked in February), as we had to move from the "best" location to the "worst" location. The hotel was a bit priced, because "regular guests" came!
They seem to be the highest priority here!
The self-evident reservation of the loungers of these same regulars is also tolerated.
Also unfortunately the showers from the beach never went!

We always stay in the beachfront bungalows and usually have one closer to the pool, but this time we were in number 106 furthest from the pool and restaurant which was actually great as it is much busier on the beach at this time of year, but it was quieter down this end and couldn’t have picked a better spot 😊
the second row garden bungalows would be great too and more private at busier times.
The bungalow was awesome with a great sea/beach view from the room and balcony, close to the beach massage huts and just steps onto the beach, great bungalows, very comfortable bed, great shower, cleaned/serviced every day, tv, safe, kettle etc but although there is a kettle we were only provided with paper cups and coffee and powdered milk for the first day only, they didn’t leave anything in the room on day two after cleaning the room, so we asked at reception and were told that they are only provided on first day, however they did bring us a couple of cups and we bought our own tea and milk at the shop, no big deal really, where else can you get a beachfront bungalow at peak season for 3000 baht night? it’s excellent value for money 😊
Breakfast isn’t included and you just order what you want off the menu which is good and varied.
We had a great New Year’s Eve dinner in their restaurant with awesome entertainment, they put on a great night we thoroughly enjoyed it.
If we asked they would run us up to the supermarket at the top of the hill on the main road in the buggy and if we needed picking up we just ask at checkout in supermarket and they call them to come pick us up again, what an awesome service
The pool is beautiful and plenty of sun loungers, although on a couple of days we couldn’t get one being peak season and very busy, the swim up pool bar still not open which we thought strange on such a busy time but you can still get drinks bought to you around the pool 😊
The staff are all beautiful and very helpful, we will certainly return here again and won’t hesitate to recommend it to friends and family
Thanks to all at nang thong bay resort for making our stay so beautiful
